Robinson is the best TE on the Giants, and it is not close

dibc : 9/1/2014 11:35 am
He's a vastly better receiver than the others - better routes, better speed, better hands (way better hands). The gap between him and the other two as a receiver is huge. As blockers, they are all mediocre. If you want to say Robinson is the 3rd best blocker I wouldn't argue, but the differences between them all just aren't that great. They all miss some blocks, they all make some blocks, Robinson makes more than claimed and the others less. None of them is Mark Bavaro as a blocker. If you put the number 99 on all their uniforms and watched the tape of them as blockers, I bet most people couldn't tell them apart. As receivers you could tell the difference right away.

The continual burying of Robinson on the depth chart makes me think that we'll never have a primarily receiving TE as long as Coughlin is here, despite all the talk about how the Giants now realize it is a passing league.
If he's vastly better,

wouldn't it have been nice to see it in any of the five preseason games?
Totally agree dibc...

Robinson is a superstar being held back purposely from showing the NFL world what he can do.

If only he would be given a chance...

I have to agree, Robinson would totally be Jimmy Graham if only TC

was more with the times.

He's totally not just some scrub never was that will likely be out of the NFL next year when his rookie deal is finally up and the Giants cut ties with him.
So much BS

so little time. Robinson comprises .33 of a starting NFL TE. Coach knew how to utilize Shockey, Boss, Ballard & Bennett, didn't he? And the teams that had the highest percentage of rushing attempts last season were Seattle & SF....somewhat misleading because both quarterbacks can run like RBs...but you might catch the drift.

More of an indictment on the others than a compliment to Robinson.

is another of Reese's "wow measureables" picks. He came from a five wide offense at a relatively small school (Cincinnati), where he did very little. But he had incredible measureables. Guys like this should be left for the very bottom of the draft. The NFL graveyard is littered with great athletes who couldn't play football.

But he's on the team, so we have to hope he can finally produce. He did have two nice catches at the end of the Colts game. It's sad that's all we can cite as a positive, but there it is.

And This Opinion

is based on what body of work? I would think, especially, if "it's not event close," there'd be some additional documentation for the statement, unless, of course, you're just screwin' around.

4 catches in 8 attempts this preseason. Donnell was 7/13 and Fells 2/3. By what criteria are you judging Robinson to be a vastly better receiver? I haven't seen the huge gap you are talking about.

well that criteria is nearly fool-proof...

Made 2 nice catches in the comeback vs. Indy. Made me think the arrow was finally pointing up for the guy. I think Donnell could be a decent TE, but man

anybody who's critical of this pick ever looked at the alternatives who were available at that spot? And what the likelihood of getting a good NFL player was at #127 in the 2012 draft?

Here are some of the players available at 127 that played in bigger conferences/prominent teams and were productive in college:

134: Greg Childs: Good WR at Arkansas. 0 receptions in the NFL
147: Tank Carder: Major factor at LB in a great TCU defense. 9 tackles in the NFL
159: Chris Rainey: Dynamic playmaker at Florida. 160 yards from scrimmage in the NFL
194: Marvin McNutt: 82/1315/12 his last year at Iowa. 0 receptions in the NFL

These are a few of the guys that I remember from college who were picked after Robinson. Maybe there are some more. Of course there are only like 3 or 4 actual NFL contributors (non-kickers) in the 100 or so picks after Robinson, so it's going to be really tough to find a good NFL player who meets your criteria for selection.
Not only is he the best....

Is there a legal set where we don't have to use any TE's?
