Asked @NBCSN's Kevin Gilbride about Giants offense. "The running backs are far superior to what we had last year. Its not even close."
Awwwwww...don't say that...

Finally, the 3rd and long draw play could work

If only Wilson could have stayed healthy
doesn't say much for Wilson
fkap : 9/2/2014 2:07 pm : link
granted, he wasn't around for much of the year, but he was still here.
Compared to last year!
BillT : 9/2/2014 2:07 pm : link
That's not even close. The question is are they good enough compared to the rest of the league. I believe that answer is yes as well. In fact, plenty good enough.
RBs arent sexy
kepler20 : 9/2/2014 2:12 pm : link
both exciting and demoralizing for Gilbride to praise the RBs.
kepler
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/2/2014 2:14 pm : link
that doesn't make sense since Gilbride had the #1 rushing offense in the NFL in 2008.
So he's saying that

we are better than we were last year when the Giants had to talk 2 guys out of semi-retirement (Hillis and Jacobs) in order to at least field some semblance of an NFL running back?

We'd damn well better be better than last year. It couldn't have gotten much worse.

Kevin Gilbride on Eli: "If the line is good enough, I think hell perform. Theres no doubt in my mind."
Gee, ya think?

Wilson and Brown? LOL.
our RBs...were brutal....
BillKo : 9/2/2014 2:19 pm : link
last year.

Dave Wilson was terrible in every facet.

Andre Brown gave a bit of a spark when he returned, but by season's end you could see he was just about finished as an NFL player. He just wasn't long for the position of RB.

Hillis wasn't really in shape IMO.

Cox was just a body.

Let's answer that question

answer:
No, it's not good enough. It might be by week 8, but will it matter by then if we're 3-5?

it's not even close.
Still want to know who is going to play the role
BlueHurricane : 9/2/2014 2:38 pm : link
Of drawing coverage away from Cruz. We have no TE worth a damn and Randle is really a frustrating guy. Hopefully he can finally figure out how to play the game and provide an outside threat.

The play calling is much better...running plays
designed better...he had worse run plays

Good point about "drawing coverage away from Cruz" BH. When VC was in his contract dispute many people jumped on me for saying that Cruz wasn't a #1 guy, that he needed a top flight Nicks to draw attention from him. I like Cruz a lot, but the thing aside from the OL that is really killing the Giants is the abrupt decline of Nicks. When he was in peak form he was dynamic and made plays regardless of coverage, allowing Cruz and Manningham to flourish against single coverage. Randle would be a lot better as the 3rd receiver behind Nicks and Cruz. I am not optimistic that he will become the #1 that they need.

I find things like this annoying; if there is no doubt in his mind then why does say "I THINK he'll perform"?
Talk about
McNally's_Nuts : 9/2/2014 3:04 pm : link
class. Gilbride has been nothing but that since he "retired". He's been nothing but complementary towards the Giants and Eli Manning.
I like Gilbride's opinions, primarily because I agree with them
GeofromNJ : 9/2/2014 4:26 pm : link
When discussing Brandon Myers, he said that he could sit down in the zone and catch the ball, and didn't add anything beyond that which by implication meant that he couldn't do anything else. Bennett was a big loss for the Giants. As for the two running backs, they ARE much better than last year's crop. Last year, Bradshaw was hurt, Cox is not much, and Wilson was never a running back in that he had no vision and was unable to pick a hole. He was simply fast, which is not enough to be a running back. The Giants running game this year will be very good in my opinion. The passing game, to me, is a question mark, especially with Beckum's status unknown.
We will miss Wilson's speed
SGMen : 9/2/2014 4:35 pm : link
We will miss O. Beckham's speed.

You'd have two guys on the field that can take a short one all the way. I was picturing Wilson returning to KO return glory and Beckham doing the same for punt returns. Special teams can win you two games a year they say.
I think he'll perform

You mean like Jerry Reese, BBI or both?
Last season's..
rocco8112 : 9/2/2014 8:07 pm : link
.. "talent" on offense was a goddamn joke. We were starting Darrell Scott for awhile, he was not an NFL caliber player. A cherry on top of the farce that was last season was the Giants having to resign Scott after cutting him because there was literally no one else to carry the ball and at least pretend to protect Eli.

Giants signed Hills and Jacobs off the scrap heap and they became starters. It was a joke. (no knock on Jacobs who I love and I think Hills will contribute this season).

Gilbride was in the NFL forever, he knows a guy is NFL caliber and from his couch knows are backs are better this year, it would be hard to be worse
I agree with KG
Paulie Walnuts : 9/3/2014 11:27 am : link
and yes, hes classy

and I see he could be bitter cause he was somewhat of the fall guy for Reese and the shitty drafts and off seasons

if we suck again, Mara going clean out the front office/ starting with Marc Ross
