Cowboys plan to bring Michael Sam to Dallas for a physical Wednesday, per team source. If all goes well, Sam will be a Cowboy.

He's not that good against the run, but he gets after the QB and the Cowboys are sorely lacking in that area.

I agree. If Sam can use this opportunity (no matter JJ's motive) to stick somewhere, then good for him. And the league has shown that DE/LB rush specialists can survive for a few years (at least).

"Whatever the reason, there was a general feeling on the outside that Sam didn’t fit the Cowboys’ scheme. Coming out of Missouri at 6-2, 260 pounds, he wasn’t strong enough to be an every-down defensive end in a 4-3. Not athletic enough to play outside linebacker. Not fast, either. Runs a 4.91 40."

The league office sent a letter to some teams encouraging that Sam be signed to a practice squad.

Would they send a letter and physically document something like that? If Goddells intention is to get Sam signed to a PS why not just have a conversation with ownership? Seems odd.

If Sam makes a roster and he gets into a fight with his BF, does it fall under the NFL's domestic abuse policy?
So I have to be the one man enough to take up for Rocky here?

I don't think the league is that stupid.

They can't be. There's no stigma against the league if he isn't good enough, which, in the long-run, will be correct.

Combine this with ESPN's dumb-ass questions on the locker room showers, and you get idiocy.

even his inappropriateness for their scheme may not prevent him from being on the field at some point this season.

It would have been entertaining if the Redskins had signed him. Twitter would have exploded.

I don't know whether such a move would do a better job of appeasing his critics or offending his defenders, but I'm sure Danny would find a way to monetize it. Start up a Redskins Talk on Bravo or something like that.

Couldn't you say that about plenty of other NFL prospects? Or how about those who didn't even finish college before declaring for the draft and are now unable to go back to earn their degrees since they're no longer eligible to play college ball (since many won't be able to afford college without the scholarships)?
yes

I actually think that is exactly what Sam and others would want. To be hated as equally as the rest of the Cowboys. So with that I proudly say Fuck you Michael Sam. You suck!

How many games did Godell promise Jerry he'll order the refs to help him win if Jerry signed Sam. And I say that with no disrespect to Sam but only from the perspective of how bad the NFL wants this guy to be on a team.

And from that perspective it's a win win for Jerry because he does need the help on defense and I'll bet we see Sam play in some games.
Jerry

is a terrible GM in regards to fielding a winning team but he's a terrific businessman and knows how to keep Dallas in the limelight. Sam is a marginal talent. Smart signing.
Sam is not marginal
WideRight : 9/3/2014 1:10 pm : link
He plays much better than his physical ability. As mentioned here he looks like a tweener without the ability to adjust to DL or LB. But he's been through this before, and his likely to succeed as anyone.

Can you say James Harrison?

I agree.

Not going to say that Sam will be a future success in the NFL, but we've seen guys with marginal NFL athletic abilities have great success in the NFL. Remember when people were hating on Burfect for his off the field distractions and his shitty physical attributes (as his performance indicated during the combine)? Yeah, some people are football players more than athletes.

As likely to succeed as a tweener without the ability to adjust to DL or LB? I'd say a better chance than the typical tweener. As likely to succeed as a player with the prototypical size, speed and mental capacity to play those positions? I don't think so.

We'll find out by his play on the PS and on the regular Dallas roster if they have another injury at DE.

Sam
Phil from WNY : 9/3/2014 1:42 pm : link
is a seventh round pick who was cut by the team that drafted him. That's the definition of a marginal talent.
At this point, it remains to be seen what Sam is
Greg from LI : 9/3/2014 1:51 pm : link
But I think it's fair to consider him a longshot.
Actually a good move by JJ on both fronts
jcn56 : 9/3/2014 4:58 pm : link
Sam certainly is a marginal talent, but this is the Cowboys defense we're talking about, a marginal player might very well get some starting snaps over there.
true
Greg from LI : 9/3/2014 5:03 pm : link
If there's one thing the Cowboy defense has in spades, it's marginal talents.

There you go.

You don't have to "agree" or "condone" homosexuality to explain it to your kids. It's as simple as saying, "Some guys like other guys. I don't think it is right because [insert whatever reason you want] and it makes me uncomfortable. But I wouldn't go out of my way to deny anybody anything."

It isn't all that hard.

I think mine was 6 when I explained homosexuals to him. Don't see what's so uncomfortable about it. I don't agree with your views on it, tho.
