Cowboys to bring in Sam for a physical

Jints in Carolina : 9/2/2014 4:38 pm
Adam Schefter & #8207;@AdamSchefter 6m
Cowboys plan to bring Michael Sam to Dallas for a physical Wednesday, per team source. If all goes well, Sam will be a Cowboy.
This is one of the first teams I thought of when Sam was waived.
Exit 172 : 9/2/2014 4:40 pm : link
The Cowboys desperately need help in their front seven.
Good for him.
BLUATHRT : 9/2/2014 4:40 pm : link
But Jerry's motivation likely isn't football related, which is sad for this kid. He's just looking to keep media attention on his team.

No doubt.

Good news for Sam though...

I'm not going to say Jones is doing this for the publicity
robbieballs2003 : 9/2/2014 4:45 pm : link
Because they need defensive linemen. It would be a good fit.

I disagree about Jerruh's motivation.
81_Great_Dane : 9/2/2014 4:51 pm : link
Michael Sam is exactly the kind of player the Cowboys should be checking out: Very productive defensive lineman in college, cut by an NFL team stacked at his position -- a position where the Cowboys are thin.

Maybe he can play, maybe he can't, but if you're Dallas you have to find out. If he's lousy, you let him go and bring in someone else.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Michael Sam is on the verge of having a new home.
According to multiple reports, the rookie defensive end will head to Dallas on Tuesday night to take a physical with the Cowboys on Wednesday.
If he passes the physical, he will reportedly join Dallas’ practice squad.

So I'll go with the publicity angle...

Can't wait to get his hands on him........Get your popcorn ready!!! LMAO and you know you where all thinking this.
How many threads do we need on Sam?
Carl in CT : 9/2/2014 5:03 pm : link
He wants to be treated equally but yet all this BS on this site only because he is "light in the loafers" and nothing about his football ability. It's good for any player who gets cut an the signed. I'm happy for all kids to keep their dream alive. The madness needs to stop!!!!!
A team that
ctc in ftmyers : 9/2/2014 5:03 pm : link
has a legitimate need for defense.

Why would they sign him to the 53 till they found out if he's better than what they have?

That wouldn't make sense.

JJ will play it for all it's worth.

Dallas D is in pretty bad shape. Jerry may be doing this out of necessity. Although I understand the doubt some may have.

Why cut someone to make room for Sam when you can get a "free" evaluation of him in your system and a day-to-day comparison between him and the other DEs on the roster?

Because the Rams have a young, deep DL so they don't need/want to use a limited PS spot on a developmental prospect.

Like when you see someone stand up on a talk show and say ‘How am I supposed to explain to my child that two men are getting married?’ I dunno, it’s your shitty kid, you fuckin’ tell ‘em. Why is that anyone else’s problem? Two guys are in LOVE but they can’t get married because YOU don’t want to talk to your ugly child for five fuckin’ minutes?"

a decent parent would do the hard work and explain to their kid that even if it's not something we personally agree with, two men have the right to express their love for one another the same as two women do or a man and a woman do.

You can use that a gauge and see where you land and determine for yourself if that makes you a shitty parent or not.

Stats on this? I would've thought when a player went on IR, teams looked first to their PS for a replacement. Granted with only 8-9 players in past years, there was a good chance that no replacement existed.

In Dallas' case, they could easily bump a DE from their PS to their 53 man roster just because of the lack of depth there.
I have a solid defensible position

I didn't say not to watch football. I just said that if you don't want to see those things don't watch those shows that air those things. Whether you watch or not is entirely within your control.

It's a funny thing about TV, radio, movies, etc. The consumer gets to pick and choose of his or her own volition whether or not they watch or listen to a particular program. No one is ever forced to watch or listen to anything they don't want to.

There's these buttons on remote controls. One of them is used to just turn things off completely. The others are used to switch from one program to another. Anytime there's anything on TV I don't want to see, I use them, and like magic, I'm not watching something I don't want to see.

I've got news for you - sports stopped being family TV

Forget the gay stuff - how about wife beating? Drunk driving? Dog killing?

Try explaining to your son why an NFL QB had to have an alias because he was floating around giving women herpes. Or how he had to do time in the federal pen because he was electrocuting dogs for kicks.

The gay cake eating is the last thing anyone could point to for 'family time' as far as sports are concerned.

Not sure what isn't wholesome about those who are homosexuals. It's all about their character and not about who they are attracted to.

I have plenty of incredible homosexual friends, who are far more wholesome than some of the heterosexual people I've met in life. And several of them served our nation proudly. So what's so unwholesome about them or their way of life?

And I don't think you know the definition of "sane" if this is the reason why you think you're sane.

Rocky
RB^2 : 9/3/2014 9:53 am : link
You've stated your position on this matter. It's a position that the world (the civilized world at least) is rejecting very rapidly. Did you ever consider the possibility that you might be setting your son up for being ostracized by association with your views?

Would you feel comfortable letting your kid hang out with a kid whose dad, for example, doesn't want "darkies" coming by?

Do you want his peers to think of him as the kid with the weird homophobic/racist dad? This is the bigger risk than your kid being gay - if you really consider that to be a "risk".

I agree. If Sam can use this opportunity (no matter JJ's motive) to stick somewhere, then good for him. And the league has shown that DE/LB rush specialists can survive for a few years (at least).

Not going to say that Sam will be a future success in the NFL, but we've seen guys with marginal NFL athletic abilities have great success in the NFL. Remember when people were hating on Burfect for his off the field distractions and his shitty physical attributes (as his performance indicated during the combine)? As likely to succeed as a tweener without the ability to adjust to DL or LB? I'd say a better chance than the typical tweener. As likely to succeed as a player with the prototypical size, speed and mental capacity to play those positions? I don't think so.

We'll find out by his play on the PS and on the regular Dallas roster if they have another injury at DE.
