Cowboys to bring in Sam for a physical

The Cowboys desperately need help in their front seven.

Michael Sam is exactly the kind of player the Cowboys should be checking out: Very productive defensive lineman in college, cut by an NFL team stacked at his position -- a position where the Cowboys are thin.

Maybe he can play, maybe he can't, but if you're Dallas you have to find out. If he's lousy, you let him go and bring in someone else.

Dallas D is in pretty bad shape. Jerry may be doing this out of necessity. Although I understand the doubt some may have.

Why cut someone to make room for Sam when you can get a "free" evaluation of him in your system and a day-to-day comparison between him and the other DEs on the roster?

Because the Rams have a young, deep DL so they don't need/want to use a limited PS spot on a developmental prospect.

I hate the Cowboys and yea the media aspect of this story can't be ignored. But I won't be cynical about this, pretty cool move by the Cowboys. Their D sucks so might as well give a pass rusher who played well in pre-season a chance.

Similar kind of story: Productive college player who didn't appear to have the tools for success in the NFL. Sam might give them some quality snaps too. Seems like a logical pickup for a team hurting at DE. Plus, he's from Texas and has family in the Dallas area.
