What are your expectations for Monday Night?

Tony in Berlin : 9/3/2014 3:34 am
Personally, I believe the Giants will be a lot more competitive than many here believe. Manning always plays great on opening night, especially indoors. And although the Lions D-line is impressive, their secondary is less than stellar - especially vs. play-action passes. If the Giants can establish the running game early on, I do believe this game is wide-open. What are your exppectations for the game?

A lot of screens.
Power and zone 1st/2nd down

Whatever it takes to keep Eli out of 3rd and 10
The Packers played the Lions
G-MEN-IN-MIAMI : 9/3/2014 4:19 am : link
twice a year so I have to figure that this offense has a few things lined up for this team that will play towards the Lions weakness and the Giants strengths, whatever that will be. With Ben McAdoo as the new Offensive Coordinator I'm actually very happy the Giants are going up against a team from the NFC North to start off their season because who would better know this defense than McAdoo who has spent the last 8 seasons on the Packers coaching staff.
G-MEN
Tony in Berlin : 9/3/2014 4:25 am : link
Great point, I never thought of that.
Two new coaching staffs (or at least significant parts of)
SLIM : 9/3/2014 6:21 am : link
so there could be a lot of surprises and wrinkles. If it comes down to (head) coaching, we have a huge advantage. Coughlin is one of the best. Caldwell in my opinion should have never gotten a second opportunity.
My only expectation
Joe in Knoxville : 9/3/2014 6:40 am : link
are for more celebrity photos to be released by monday night
I wonder how much of a role Reggie Bush will have
Tony in Berlin : 9/3/2014 6:43 am : link
in a Caldwell offense - and if he can stay on the field. Matchup-wise, Bush is a lot of trouble.
I expect
lester : 9/3/2014 6:55 am : link
the Giants to play with some fire...or I hope.
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 9/3/2014 7:01 am : link
Hopefully a win. I don't give us great odds, but it can be done. We've won in Detroit before obviously. And if we don't win, at least a competitive game. Too many Giants games last season-especially early on-& stretching back to November '12 weren't even competitive by halftime.
D contains

Predictions?

.....
Micko : 9/3/2014 7:19 am : link
Although my real prediction or expectation is the game is close for 3Q and then the Lions pull away for a 10-14 point victory. However, I love being wrong. There will be a fumble or INT that turns the game against us.
I don't think I've ever been so confused about the team
WillieYoung : 9/3/2014 7:25 am : link
I have often over-estimated them or under-estimated them but I've always had a conviction right or wrong. Nothing would surprise me Monday night, because I have no clue what we've got. The only thing I know is that if it comes down to our third string against their third string we'll win. that's my only take away from pre-season.

Couldn't have said it any better.
Detroit
AcidTest : 9/3/2014 7:59 am : link
27-13. Too many problems on offense for us, and Detroit has a lot of weapons on that side of the ball. Enough to eventually wear us down, especially if we have a lot of three and outs. The OL still doesn't have enough chemistry to avoid some brutal mistakes, Eli is a statute, and we are very weak at WR and TE. The Lions also have Suh and Fairley, who will be a big problem for Walton and Richburg. Absolutely no judgments based on one game, but I think it's going to be a long night.
Custer and the Giants
Tark10 : 9/3/2014 8:20 am : link
This team has had a host of problems over the last few months. Starting on the road in a hostile stadium doesn't bode well for our guys on week 1. Dottino says the team will depend on the run game and defense till the passing game stabilizes. The receivers won't scare the Lion defense. I suspect the Lion defense will play up to stop the run early and then go after Eli. Sounds like the Carolina game last year. I'll have my Giant hat and shirt on cheering for my team, but I tend to think Custer would have opened with better odds at Little Big Horn. Lions 30-10. AND I hope I'm wrong!
Giants 21. Detroit 20
lecky : 9/3/2014 8:21 am : link

Detroit gets the ball back with 4 minutes to go and the defense holds. That type of scenario will make alot of people feel better about the upcoming season.

I think Eli is going to end up getting hit a lot
Bold Ruler : Mod : 9/3/2014 8:29 am : link
With Suh coming at him all night. I'm honestly worried.
First game of the year - managed expectations
jcn56 : 9/3/2014 8:31 am : link
all I expect is beer, wings and a football game. Beyond that, who the hell knows.
I actually think that it'll be a shootout...
RC02XX : 9/3/2014 8:31 am : link
with the Giants winning since I think our D is better than their D.

Watch Eli throw for 3 TD's and no picks. I have faith.
What Bold said.
Curtis in VA : 9/3/2014 8:34 am : link
I expect Eli to get knocked around like a rag doll. I think he's going to do what he always does when that happens and try to make a play and I think he's going to be responsible for a turnover or two.

I think the defense will do an admirable job holding the Lions offense in check but I expect the Giants offense will be so inept that it'll be too much to overcome.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Lions 24 Giants 13.

Shut yo beautiful face, Curtis! It'll be Giants 24 Lions 14.
My expectations?
yankfan : 9/3/2014 8:41 am : link
That I'll wake up Tuesday morning.
One thing people are forgetting...
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/3/2014 8:50 am : link
is that the Lions are also implementing a new offense. I know we tend to live in a vacuum, but I've seen a lot of posts this week talking about what the Lions do on offense well and that the giants are going to be shit on O.

We really don't know what we will get from either team.
A close
NYBEN : 9/3/2014 9:05 am : link
very good ,very entertaining game, with the Giants winning 28-24.I also expect a much different offense than what we saw during preseason,I think we will see a lot more passes to the backs and more use of the TE's.
Few things i think will happen
ANGPASS : 9/3/2014 9:05 am : link
1-giants first play will be a PA bomb (if it is complete, great, if not, it backs up the defense)
2-Heavy dose of jennings and williams
3- megatron held to under 70 yards and NO tds
4-stafford throws 3 picks
5- eli throws for under 200 yards
6-Moore gets 2 sacks
7-Golden tate gives us a hard time
8-A LOT OF YELLOW

Giants win (Lions have a shit ton of pressure with high expectations and choke)

Giants 20 Lions 17
I honestly have no idea what to expect
Greg from LI : 9/3/2014 9:12 am : link
The only certainty is that people will freak out and declare the season as lost if they lose.
Have the feeling
JoefromPa : 9/3/2014 9:18 am : link
the game is going to feel like so many games last year did, Giants having a difficult time being competitive. Hope I'm wrong.

great point. optimistic the Giants have played the preseason with cards to their chest and will unveil a few new wrinkles they weren't thinking about.

Of course, the flipside is the Lions D has also been playing Green Bay twice a year....
they also generally lose twice a year to Green Bay, though

Manning always plays great on opening night.

Looks like we can run
jLefty : 9/3/2014 10:08 am : link
we can defend, but Eli to Cruz, Randle,Jernigan Donnell isn't a confidence builder. Can the o-line keep a pocket for Eli? Lots to look for. Lots to anticipate. If we lose, jLefty will probably be one of those panic posters.
An offensive explosion
PatersonPlank : 9/3/2014 11:33 am : link
and a solid win
Completely forgot that Jim Caldwell is the Lions new coach
Dave in Hoboken : 9/3/2014 11:37 am : link
and they are implementing a new offense, as well.

Those two factors give me hope for Monday night.
We notoriously drop eggs on Monday night.

Factor in a new offense and bring the first week of the season. I expect us to get blown out.

I look for a strong defensive effort, good special teams play,
redthumper32 : 9/3/2014 1:04 pm : link
100 yards rushing by committee, and and abysmal passing game. Eli has 1 pick, 1 fumble, and is 14/38 for 186 and 1 td.
Giants win
hd9009 : 9/3/2014 1:52 pm : link
I like the upgrades at LB and DBs.
I can only hope the Oline steps up
I expect Weatherford to be a busy man...
Jimmy Googs : 9/3/2014 2:15 pm : link
but the Giants pull the game out anyway.
No idea what to expect
JonC : 9/3/2014 2:18 pm : link
But I want to see crisp, clean, focused, fundamentally sound football. Keep the errors down, play your assignments, and play with energy and hustle. Too many efforts to the opposite in recent seasons from NYG, very unlike Coughlin teams.
Oh, almost forgot. I expect an insane amount
Jimmy Googs : 9/3/2014 2:26 pm : link
commercials.

MNF is the worst...

Third
The Giants offense..
silverfox : 9/3/2014 3:04 pm : link
...won't have a 1st down for several series (unless by penalty). The punter will be very busy. Eli will look like a shell shocked David Carr (wait...he already does..scratch that)...The defense keeps it close for a while, then the dam breaks. One starter will be IRd during the week.

Detroit 31, Giants 10.
I think
Jerry in DC : 9/3/2014 4:11 pm : link
the 1st 4 or 5 times we get the ball we won't move it at all - maybe 1 1st down and 1 turnover.

During that time the D will concede a score after the turnover and allow 1 drive for a score.

We'll move the ball midway the 2nd quarter, go for it on 4th down at the 30 and get stuffed.

We'll move it in the 2 minute drill and then kick a FG. Down 10-3 at the half.

That's basically recent Giants football in the 1st half.

2nd half, we'll hit on 1 big pass play at some point, but the defense will buckle. We'll be down 17 in the 4th, score a semi-garbage time TD. Detroit will get a couple of 1st downs. We'll get the ball back down 10 needing a miracle and throw an INT, possibly a pick-6.
Giants win
Paulie Walnuts : 9/3/2014 5:32 pm : link
of course

6 turnovers

Oh crap that was last year
