Merrill Hoge craps all over Manziel, jeez

DanMetroMan : 9/3/2014 9:29 am
Hoge on Manziel: "This will be the saddest, quickest ending we have seen in quite some time."

mike freeman & #8207;@mikefreemanNFL 3m

Lastly, Hoge said Manziel will be Brian Bosworth. Dayum, dayum.

Listening to Merril Hoge on radio interview. He is absolutely destroying Manziel. Lighting him on fire.
Hoge

is and always has been an idiot, imo..
I'm pretty sure...
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/3/2014 9:33 am : link
Tim Tebow and Jemarcus Russell had some pretty quick endings.

Hoge sounds more and more like a serially concussed man.
I love when a plodding, mediocre tailback pretends he's the sage of

the NFL.
Manziel
DanMetroMan : 9/3/2014 9:34 am : link
must have given Hoge's wife a facial.
I'd bet that his opinion was swayed and/or
kmed : 9/3/2014 9:39 am : link
validated by some personal interaction of some sort. Maybe Manziel refused to talk to Hoge or something.
Not sure why this thread made me think of Techmo Super Bowl

Nah, that can't be it.
TheManUpstairs : 9/3/2014 9:43 am : link

Because it's no like Hoge would/could remember that.

He's just a moron. I don't know if Manziel's going to make it, but I know we don't KNOW yet.
I remember when I first saw the kid play
rasbutant : 9/3/2014 9:46 am : link
I thought wow this kid is fun to watch. Then all the positive hype came, and I thought I don't like this kid and he really isn't that good. Then the media turned on him and all the negative hype went rampant and I find myself rooting for the kid again.
He's been saying this for months, going back
Mad Mike : 9/3/2014 9:49 am : link
to before the draft.
I agree with Hoge
Jughead : 9/3/2014 10:03 am : link
but he was still over the top. Small, running, inaccurate QB who came from a spread Big 12 offense. That's not a recipe for success in the NFL.
How many times...

did he say "factor back"?

It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off.
Hoge = too many concussions
Jupiter : 9/3/2014 10:19 am : link
Not politically correct but it is a fact.

Wasn't he a fullback? That explains everything.
not a very good one, either
Greg from LI : 9/3/2014 10:35 am : link
But he IS in the High Motor White Guy HOF, so he's got that going for him.
He's probably right on this one
bceagle05 : 9/3/2014 10:39 am : link
but the way he evaluates quarterback prospects pre-draft is hilarious. In his Utopian world, a quarterback should only be needed to hand the ball off to the running back on every play, therefore none need to be drafted before round 3.

I cant envision anything sadder and quicker than the demise of Robert Griffin III.

Sadness being subjective.
I have no idea why, but...
Bockman : 9/3/2014 10:50 am : link
I really, really want Manziel to be amazing. It would piss sooooooo many people off and make for such quality entertainment.
When did Journalism die?
Joey in VA : 9/3/2014 11:13 am : link
It's dead and has been for a while, but at what point did we become OK with vitriol and axe grinding retirees telling us what they think we need to know? Hoge is a Steeler, Johnny F is a Brown, that's all that dinged up do nothing can focus on. It's childish mud slinging from someone hired to be a professional. Not shocking, just sad.
This Is Tough

I can't stand Hoge, but I'm not a Manziel fan either.

Root for Manziel to succeed to prove Hoge wrong or root for Manziel to flame out and deal with Hoge gloating ...
Totally agree...
Jimmy Googs : 9/3/2014 11:16 am : link
this is all about Steeler Love / Browns Hate from Hoge.

Hoge has done this before...a lot.
I really wish Jerry Jones would have......

I agree with Hoge 100%
Hunter : 9/3/2014 11:27 am : link
Manziel is a punk, and has conducted himself off the field in a way detrimental to the team.

Tell me, would or have the likes of Montana, Simms, Elway, Kosar, Young, Manning (both of them), Wilson, RGIII, Newton - has any of the these QB's (a.k.a. Team Leaders or the Face of the Team) with such blatant disregard for personal conduct?

Not only that - he's a rookie. Rookies shut up, for an entire year, and learn the game. It's pretty simple.

I hope Manziel breaks his leg worse than Theisman
Nice, Hunter. Real nice.

You sir are a moron.
Oh please...
Dunedin81 : 9/3/2014 11:29 am : link
rookies, especially at the QB position, have done a lot more than hold clipboards for the last decade. Manziel acted like an asshole, but that is deserving of a career-ending leg injury? Some of you need a healthy dose of perspective.
Hmmm
Johnny5 : 9/3/2014 11:52 am : link
Don't care enough to side one way or the other... lol
Well..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/3/2014 12:24 pm : link
both Mannings, Steve Young and Elway made waves by trying to manipulate where they were drafted or who they would play for. Cam Newton was looked at as a showboating clown who blatantly took cash in college and RGIII has had more than one of his statements met with raised eyebrows.

Manziel sure isn't a choirboy, but let's not make it out like he's playing with a bunch of Gods without any dings or faults.

Journalism has its problems, God knows, but I don't think this is one of them. Hoge is an opinionated "expert," which in this case means "ex-player." He's not there to report, he's there to opine. He's not a journalist, the show he's on isn't really a journalism show. Bemoaning the state of journalism over what Merrill Hoge says in an interview like bemoaning the state of NFL football because of something that happened in Madden.

Hoge was provocative enough to get someone to start a thread on a Giants site even though he was talking about a Cleveland Brown. Sounds like he did what they put him on to do.
Hoge has taken too many blows to the head!

of journalism, but it perpetuates the current trend of over-exaggeration to gain notice or get a rise. Call it the Skip Bayless Method.

This turns a lot of people off because while it may generate publicity, most people recognize it for what it is, blowhard bullshit.

Not calling these kind of bush League antics out will make it seem OK and acceptable. I happen to think it isn't.

Nothing better than calling someone a "punk" and then just a few short sentences later, wishing gruesome injury upon said person.

You're a true American hero, Hunter!
Plus..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/3/2014 1:10 pm : link
there are only two acceptable spellings of the former Redskin QB's name.

Theesman - the original pronounciation OR
Theismann - the one he changed to for the running for the Heisman.

Actually, the casual fan, which is the great majority of fans in this country, imo, eats this shit up and will be found quoting guys like Hoge to other casual fans as if it's fact..

The biggest thing about Manziel are the injuries. Wilson is a bigger guy, weight wise, and didn't enter the league with injuries from scrambling like crazy because he's a guy who scrambles to throw and not to pick up yardage.

Manziel scrambles to chuck + duck (to Mike Evans) or to run and take contact. He played hurt for a lot of his senior year because of this.

Hoge is right, Manziel is too small, just like Vick is, to take the NFL beating LBers, safties, and CBs bearing down on you.
This thread screams for a CIP photoshop picture.
