He's a rental. With Schwartz going to short-term IR and Mosley's back giving him trouble, they need another body. With any luck, he'll never see the field.
he was only in AZ for one season. He also was "bad" enough to play in all three SF play-off games last year. Probably wrong player in the wrong scheme in AZ. And not worth the money as a backup in SF. Probably a serviceable part.
Mosley has a bad back, Walton hasn't played a full season in 2 years, Jerry had injury problems in training camp as did Brown and Brewer...it might take luck to hold this group together.
Injury: Mike Iupati, 49ers LG (Knee)
Replacement: Adam Snyder
"What They’re Losing: Iupati has been shakier than usual in pass protection, but is still predictably effective in the ground game. He finished each of his first three seasons with one of the Top 3 run block grades by a left guard.
What They’re Getting: Snyder is often praised for his versatility, but he’s continued to receive poor grades from us no matter where he takes his snaps. His -18.2 grade with the Cardinals last season was fourth-worst among guards, and unfortunately par for the course for him.
Outcome: Don’t mistake Snyder’s experience for success. The 49ers offensive line has not been as dominant as it was last season, and now this is a significant downgrade for them until Iupati returns."

Guards the Weakest
"Both of McDonald’s rushes came against left guard Adam Snyder and both got to the quarterback in under two seconds. He nearly prevented the 49ers’ lone touchdown of the day as he knocked Kaepernick to the ground with 10 seconds to go in the first half. McDonald came back with a similar rush with 10:08 to go in the fourth quarter, but this time after he beat Snyder to the inside, he got home and picked up one of Seattle’s two sacks on the day. McDonald’s +2.0 pass rush grade led the Seahawks..."
"It’s been three starts for left guard Adam Snyder in place of usual starter Mike Iupati and it’s now been three straight negative games. It wasn’t an egregious effort at -0.5, but Snyder’s aforementioned blunders in pass protection were the worst of the day for anyone on the San Francisco offensive line." Link - ( New Window )
He's not here to start. They need bodies and the barrel is empty Â
is this guy the best guy available at this time? Dozens of o linemen were waived this weeka nd we had our choice of whoever we wanted. Reese and Coughlin chose this guy. Does he suck? Maybe. Is he the best guy out there now? Maybe.
With our revolving door OL rostering,he must have given up learning guys names and just reverts to their number when he talks to them. Or maybe they just put 'Hello My Name is: tags on the players.
To borrow from Mara:
Our offense(ive line) is (still) broken.

Peter in CT - that's exactly right!!!
Snyder is much better than Brown and may be better than Jerry
that would make Richburg and Jerry the starters, and the first Guard off the bench would probably be... James Brewer? So signing Snyder insulates the team from possibly having to play Brewer.
Which is nice, I guess, but it again begs the question of just why the Giants are keeping Brewer on the roster at all.
than Mosley, Walton and Schwartz, too. Right now this line is Pugh, Richburg and a whole lot of anxiety. Let's see what combo we throw up against the wall on Monday.
Who are Jack Spinks, Dalton Truex, Joe Skibinski, Al Barry, and Bob Mischak?
They were candidates to start at guard for the Giants in 1958 after Bill Austin and Ray Beck did not return after the 1957 season. Spinks injured a knee for the second time and was gone during training camp, Truex suffered a leg wound and then tore a muscle, the left the Giants to trade for Skibinski and Barry from Green Bay and Mischak from Cleveland.
When Jack Stroud tore knee ligaments during the season that left Barry and Mischak as starters...the Giants also started second round draft pick Frank Youso at RT
The other two starters were fine, perennial All-Pro Rosey Brown, and perennial pro-bowler Ray Wietecha...but after Stroud's injury the rest of the line was makeshift, even in the Championship game.
Personal[edit]
Snyder has a journalism and public relations major. He is the son of Richard and Judi Snyder. He has a sister named Bree. Adam was married in the summer of 2006 to Erika Widmark. He and his wife gave birth to their first child, Kael Richard, in October, 2008. They welcomed their second child in September 2010. Adam is a fan of BBI and has been a "lurker" for years.

And if he does, it's a major red flag to Jerry/Mosley duo.
Another signing that I just don't understand. His upside is so limited and he has clearly shown to be a non factor over the past two years. Is there a scheme-element that he fits well into? Does his versatility add that much to his grade? Can he play a 6th blocker/blocking TE? Hard not to say that there are 20+ names out there that could help more than Snyder.

SY, please list your top 3 guards you would recommend the Giants pick up. Thanks.
Right now the OL has a 1st, 2 2nds and 2 3rds as the starters
Walton is just getting his legs back after 2 years. Beatty looks closer to 2012 than 2013. Richburg looks very good. Jerry looks like he is healthy.
This line has ability. Walton has played the worst of all of them.
I think this also hedges the G position if Walton can't physically make it - Richburg to C and at least have some b/u talent at G.
Snyder is a experienced b/u who can play multiple positions along the interior. Mosley has ability. At this point, I would actually trust Brewer more at T than Brown.
I thought the change from NO to NY and the fact that he only played LT 1 year would help but he cant play LT
we finally sign some one who was cut and all i see is negative comments did you think we would get an all-pro or someone servicable in case of any more injuries

/facepalm
Scary. When it comes to the OL lately, the Giants really don't deserve much benefit of the doubt.
Yeah that's not good but Snyder only played one season with AZ. Guess that also counts last year when he started 4 games for SF.

Go with the 9-2 and win at least 11 games.
If a rookie beat him out, it may be that he's on the decline and not fast enough to be useful like our 2 broken down trench warriors.

Good for us that the Giants have always been lucky that way
