It's almost impossible not to overreact to NFL week one, whether it's the Giants or anyone else around the league. At this point, it's 100% of the information we have from the season and it's natural to want to draw conclusions. But it's only one game. A lot of things will look a lot different in November. Really, lots of things will look different in 6 days.
If we crush the Lions or they crush us or anything in between...it's only one game. Things will change, people will get hurt (or not), and just all-around randomness will change the way things go over the next four months.
Giants fans should know this better than anybody. We all know about the Super Bowls, but even just going back to last year it's true.
Despite the loss and the interceptions in week 1, our passing game against Dallas was outstanding. Eli and the receivers absolutely lit it up -- 450 yards passing, all 3 WRs over 100 yards, 4 TDs. Even though we lost, a reasonable case could've been made that the INTs will even out and an explosive offense would emerge where we could win a bunch of shootouts and play a high-flying brand of football.
That's really what it looked like after week 1 last year. We know how it turned out.
It's very difficult, but try your best and keep it in perspective. It's just one week. Or ignore this and go crazy - sometimes BBI is more fun when people are going insane.
:)
(And all three losses were road games.)
If that doesn't work I remind myself that the Giants lost their opener in 3 out of their 4 Super Bowl Championship years (86, 2007 and 2011).
The Patriots interior OL is suspect
The Eagles have depth issues too...could be more if Mathis is out for awhile
These are playoff contenders...
And now with Game Threads and Twitter and all the rest it is down to the one play trend.
But if people need to pre-console themselves, cool.

it was 0-2 in 2007 until it was a SB trophy
I get it.
4-5 in Superbowls in my time as a fan....How would you like to be a fan of ANY other team over that time period???? Giants fans are playing with house money. We have little reason to be a bunch of crybabies when things are looking difficult.
I get it.
You stated, "until it was 6" as if that was a common occurence. Not sure if it ever happened before with our franchise. Losing the first 6. Even if it did on another occasion, it's still not something one points to to make a point imv..Usually after an opening loss or 2, it's rather reasonable to say, it's only 1 (or 2) game rather than point to something that might never occur again..
Perhaps, if we had last year's team relatively intact, but we don't, especially in key positions. Did we have around 40% or so turnover going into this year?..It is far more likely to assume it's about being patient after a loss, than it is "another piece of supporting evidence that this isn't just a good team."
Greg and you may be proven 100% correct, but under the present circumstances, giving them time to get it together would be the prudent thing for us to do, no?
The recipe is probably similar to 2008: run the ball, play good defense, win the turnover battle, and play well on special teams. If you remember 2008, that season went down with Hixon probably being our best WR.
Play smart football and they could win 10 games in this division by attrition alone.
It was easy! It was the '70s!
Well, except for The Fumble. I smashed my TV screen with a beer mug after that one. Suffering through all that paid off, later. Worth everything I ever broke.
