was to see our QB's "new" footwork. I know he was in shotgun most of the night, and our O-line was horrible. But it didn't take long for him to revert to old, bad mechanics Eli. Now many of you will say look at what's around him and give the guy a break. But the reality is, if the QB isn't buying fully into the new system, then why would you expect the other players to do the same? When things break down just do what you know instead of what you are taught? That's lack of execution. It rears it's ugly head again. Eli isn't totally to blame as this was a team effort to look this bad, but don't anybody dare say he wasn't a BIG part of the problem.
Good observation.

am more critical of Manning. He was certainly running for his life, is behind a poor OL, and has few weapons. But he was responsible for both INTs, made other poor throws, and is totally immobile. Stafford made some moves in the pocket to avoid the rush that Manning can no longer do.

I agree with this. It feels like Eli's pocket presence has gotten progressively worse the past three years. He panics before he needs to and makes poor decisions. Part of people a top tier quarterback is sound decision making in the face of pressure and I don't feel like Eli has had that since our last superbowl.

Connor blaming the offense in his tweets for the inept defense.

The defense sucked ass last night. Lets call a spade a spade.

After the touchdowns on the first two drives, the Giants held Detroit to:
Det leading 14-7: three-and-out, punt
Det leading 14-7: three-and-out, punt
Det leading 14-7: missed field goal
END OF HALF
Det leading 14-7: four-play drive that started at NYG 18, FG
Det leading: 17-7: Nine-play, 66-yard drive ending in FG.

What did the Giants do after their touchdown?
Five-play drive, punt (gained two yards)
Six-play drive, gained 22 yards (punt)
Three-play drive, two yards, INT
Three-play drive, six yards, punt
One-play drive, 0 yards, INT

There is only so much a defense can do when they are on the field as much as they are. They held after those two TDs early and gave New York plenty of opportunities to tie and take the lead. The offenses' ineptitude didn't capitalize.

I stand by my tweets.
Hard to give the D a full grade, but they certainly weren't terrible

especially when the O kept handing the damn ball back to them, either after a 3 and out or a turnover.

I think people are a little overly harsh on DRC, it's not like he was covering Jernigan out there.

I wouldnt stand by them. You cant just forget two drives to start the game. Going down 14-0 after two drives is awful in every sense of the word.

Lets look at the 5 drives you points out.

1. 3 and out. Good job by defense.
2. 3 and out. Good job by defense.
3. 10 plays, 45 yards. Missed FG. Are we really going to give them credit for them missing an easy FG?
4. 4 play FG. Good stop.
5. 9 play 66 yards FG. Um, not good.

Lets look at some more stats.

Stafford: 22-32 346 yards, 2 TDs, 1 sack, 0 turnovers. Awful
10-15 3rd down conversion rate.
2 punts.

So to recall, the Giants stopped them 3 times! Three. 2 punts, and a FG after an INT.

Plus, you made your "tweet" right after the Giants had a 14 play 80 yard drive that last between the third and 4th quarter. Defense wasnt rested after that? Seriously?

Take some constructive criticism. Less tweeting, more watching. One thing Giants fans will always say is that our beat reporters are some of the worst in the sport. You are following that line.
I am shocked..

Shocked, that no one has mentioned Kiwi as one, if not the, worst player on the field for us last night. Correct me if I'm wrong because I was hosting some folks at my place and missed some plays, but did he make a single positive play last night? I didn't see it...instead I saw him continually losing the edge, over-pursuing inside leaving Stafford to scramble to his right (as on the first TD), and when he did try to maintain his edge position he was routinely wiped out. This from a 10 (?) year vet? I agree there were a lot of crappy performances for us last night, but Kiwi's suck quotient was up there...

The offenses ineptness should not factor into how poor the defense was. Why cant the Giants defense get stops? The Lions punted TWICE last night. TWICE. Stafford did whatever he pleased.

If the offense goes 3 and out, maybe the defense should rise up and get a 3 and out. Maybe we shouldnt be in a 14-0 hole right off the bat because we are leaving calvin johnson wide the fuck open. Maybe not give up a 10 play drive when its only 17-7.

The defense was right on par with the offense last night. Inept, inadequate, insufficient.

pff gave him the worst grade out of any player this past week
Any of you ever have a high ankle sprain?
kmed : 9/9/2014 11:43 am : link
I've had my share and I can't imagine any scenario in which I was able to continue playing after doing it. The fact that Weatherford came back and punted later on leads me to believe that it was just a minor sprain and he will be fine.
Thanks Fred...

At least I know I wasn't imagining things...
I am not going to overly judge the first three games
SGMen : 9/9/2014 12:06 pm : link
We have a totally new offense.
We have many new faces on offense.
We have many new faces on defense.
We have a totally new (over-all) coaching staff.

This is a team finding itself and its strengths.

Unfortunately, Jerry Reese has not drafted well. He just hasn't and it is clear that the drafts from 2008 to 2012 are just plain terrible. 2013 and 2014 show some promise early on but only if ODB really does become a true #1 wideout.

If we are this pathetic games 4 and beyond well I'll be really worried indeed that the Reese, TC regime is at an end.
Kiwi didn't stand out to me as particularly bad...

...but I have no idea why he is starting. I mean, I know why he is starting, he is a vet that went to BC. But come on... let's get Ayers in there. They guy is good against the run and looked solid as a pass rusher in preseason. Rotate Moore in with Ayers.

Kiwi should only be in their if one of those two guys needs a breather or gets hurt. Enough is enough.

You mean you were not impressed with Captain Average's performance last night? Kiwi is the personification of Just Another Guy. He has been on the team almost a decade and his signature play is still from his rookie year when he let Vince Young convert a huge third down after by hugging him instead of bringing him to the turf.

Seems like a nice guy and a stand up citizen but dont expect him to make any plays.
