Ok, obviously on a list of 10 things that went wrong last night this isn't on it, but it noticed it, so thought I'd post it.
I'm not Tuesday morning quarterbacking here, it's just a reality, that the majority of kick-offs are touchbacks.
the one that wasn't he scampered back to the 13 yard line.
He can't play safety, even if the Giants are desperate, he can't do it. Can't cover and it's interested in tackling.
I'd be fine with Hillis returning the one kick a week that isn't a touchback to the 13-yard line. Or put Jernigan pack there if you really want a spark, not like if he gets injured the passing attack is doomed.
If they're cautious with Berhe then I'd rather they sign Adrian Wilson, who is old, and slow, but at least can play safety where Demps cannot and his utility with returning kicks is marginalized by the KO rules.
Prince looked good.
I'd rather see him return a larger sample size before lowering the boom on Demps.
He has a pretty good track record of returning kicks, and with the state of this offense we are going to need that.
Returns one to the 13 yard line - cut the fucker!
that's it.
the fact he returned one to the 13, was just an example of how the role he's here for he isn't always successful at, but I said before the season it was Holiday or pick your guy, but I wouldn't keep Demps just for this reason.
this is more a general observation. He's not a safety and most kicks are touchbacks.
he's not Trindon Holiday or Devin Hester, so I'd use that roster spot elsewhere.
that is all. no lynch mob, no conniption, no over reaction (by me), this was how I felt before the season, seeing his return to the 13 rekindled those feelings.
but overreact away....,.,
It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario here.
Returns will come as weather changes.
They were in a dome last night. The return game is completely neutralized there.
When he brings one back 40 yards next week, you'll feel much better :)
I though Jernigan even did a good job returning kicks.
My point is the Giants have too many needs to have a KR specialist.
I just think these 54th player decisions mean something. something small, but sometimes not to so small.
He has two TD's in 97 career KR's an a AVG of 27 yd's per return, so he can do it - though not often, but my problem is more roster building than Demps personally.
I don't think it's as simple as a roster spot wasted on a specialist who's no longer that big a part of the game due to the KO rule changes.
It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario here.
If and when Beckham returns, I'd be scared to put him on KO/PR. He is desperately needed on offense.
if Demps was a legit safety I could see tolerating him.
am I misremembering or didn't jernigan look good last year running back kicks. I'd have him do it. it's not like the passing game will suffer dramatically if they lose Jernigan.
Brown, despite all his INTs two years ago, just isn't that good.

You people need to shut the fuck up, realize the biggest fucking issues are already solved. You have a QB, you have a TE, The RBs will be fine and the OL will settle down.As for the defense that suddenly imploded with injuries and Fewell suddenly going from defensive GURU 14 days ago to inept needs to be fired, go to bed, get some sleep and take another look at thing on wedensday when the real injury reports come out and reassess from there.I am a negative dude, but you asses put me to shame.have a drink and take a nap people. Jesus.
