Quentin Demps should not be on this team

pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 9:39 am
Ok, obviously on a list of 10 things that went wrong last night this isn't on it, but it noticed it, so thought I'd post it.

I'm not Tuesday morning quarterbacking here, it's just a reality, that the majority of kick-offs are touchbacks.

the one that wasn't he scampered back to the 13 yard line.

He can't play safety, even if the Giants are desperate, he can't do it. Can't cover and it's interested in tackling.

I'd be fine with Hillis returning the one kick a week that isn't a touchback to the 13-yard line. Or put Jernigan pack there if you really want a spark, not like if he gets injured the passing attack is doomed.

sorry

If anyone watched hard knocks.........

He deserves to be subjected to the Falcons special teams coach tirade from the one episode. His words would fit perfectly for how he played last night.
The coaching staff might well agree with you,

but the injury to Cooper Taylor forced their hand. Demps was the next man up in the S rotation.
He played 1 snap
pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 9:53 am : link
at safety, I realize it's one game, but could Berhe really have done worse?

If they're cautious with Berhe then I'd rather they sign Adrian Wilson, who is old, and slow, but at least can play safety where Demps cannot and his utility with returning kicks is marginalized by the KO rules.
I actually thought
Josh in the City : 9/9/2014 9:54 am : link
Stevie Brown was the worst player in our secondary last night.
Brown
pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 9:56 am : link
was terrible, but Demps didn't play in the secondary. He got 1 snap at safety.

Prince looked good.
well...
BillKo : 9/9/2014 10:02 am : link
aren't you being a bit hard on the guy, he returned just one kick, and it looked to me like a tackler came in unblocked on the play.

I'd rather see him return a larger sample size before lowering the boom on Demps.

He has a pretty good track record of returning kicks, and with the state of this offense we are going to need that.
We really..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/9/2014 10:10 am : link
do love using the chopping block for the most inane of shit.

Returns one to the 13 yard line - cut the fucker!
It's not just because of the return
pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 10:13 am : link
that's mostly irrelevant, it's more about having a guy on the team whose sole responsibility is to return kicks. when the bulk of them are touchbacks.

that's it.

the fact he returned one to the 13, was just an example of how the role he's here for he isn't always successful at, but I said before the season it was Holiday or pick your guy, but I wouldn't keep Demps just for this reason.
If we are pointing out people for sucking out loud
NYDCBlue : 9/9/2014 10:14 am : link
Why wouldn't we start with JWill? Around every missed tackle I saw him flailing or falling in the opposite direction.
Ok, so I will restate this

this is more a general observation. He's not a safety and most kicks are touchbacks.

he's not Trindon Holiday or Devin Hester, so I'd use that roster spot elsewhere.

that is all. no lynch mob, no conniption, no over reaction (by me), this was how I felt before the season, seeing his return to the 13 rekindled those feelings.

but overreact away....,.,
Whomever is returning kicks...
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/9/2014 10:17 am : link
is probably going to be a specialist there. I can just see the outrage if we put a starter back there and he gets hurt.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario here.
PJ....
BillKo : 9/9/2014 10:18 am : link
easy, easy.

Returns will come as weather changes.

They were in a dome last night. The return game is completely neutralized there.

When he brings one back 40 yards next week, you'll feel much better :)
I was comfortable with Wilson
pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 10:21 am : link
returning kicks as 3rd string RB, he had a role.

I though Jernigan even did a good job returning kicks.

My point is the Giants have too many needs to have a KR specialist.

I just think these 54th player decisions mean something. something small, but sometimes not to so small.
I'll be thrilled if Demps
pjcas18 : 9/9/2014 10:24 am : link
returns a kick 40 yards or even takes one the distance, but I think the team would be better served with a returner who can play a position too.

He has two TD's in 97 career KR's an a AVG of 27 yd's per return, so he can do it - though not often, but my problem is more roster building than Demps personally.
Its a fair point.

It's a legit beef if the coaching staff thinks that nobody else
jcn56 : 9/9/2014 10:50 am : link
is worthy of that spot as a backup S. I do agree that I'd rather see Berhe out there in that scenario, but maybe the coaching staff thinks otherwise.

I don't think it's as simple as a roster spot wasted on a specialist who's no longer that big a part of the game due to the KO rule changes.

If and when Beckham returns, I'd be scared to put him on KO/PR. He is desperately needed on offense.
Quintin Demps
Bernie : 9/9/2014 10:55 am : link
is the least of this teams problems right now. And it should surprise nobody that Stevie Brown might be a step slow coming off an ACL injury. Candidly, I think the Giants were expecting Will Hill to be playing in that spot not Stevie Brown. And by the way, how pissed will we all be if the new drug testing program reinstates Will Hill immediately?
Demps also sucks as the up back on the punt team.
Red Dog : 9/9/2014 12:28 pm : link
But as somebody else said, he's the least of the worries on this team.
I reiterate

last season with KC. The difference this year? He's been quinned.
Yep.
arcarsenal : 9/14/2014 8:00 pm : link
I can't even tell you how many times I've said "Quintin Demps is fucking awful" this year and that was before he fumbled. After that, I just dropped my beer and threw up my arms (and wanted to throw up) and was furious.
We really miss

Will Hill @ safety.
I just hope for touchbacks
pjcas18 : 9/14/2014 8:06 pm : link
because when he brings it out he's stopped short of the 20 - which I've noticed more and more around the league - not just Demps, so maybe kicker or someone knows some method of kick-off that is leaving more hang time or something.

if Demps was a legit safety I could see tolerating him.

am I misremembering or didn't jernigan look good last year running back kicks. I'd have him do it. it's not like the passing game will suffer dramatically if they lose Jernigan.
I'm amazed the Giants were so confident about Stevie Brown
chris r : 9/14/2014 8:25 pm : link
coming off an ACL knowing the Will Hill situation. Or maybe they really liked Cooper Taylor?

Brown, despite all his INTs two years ago, just isn't that good.
They're going to need to give Berhe a chance soon.
arcarsenal : 9/14/2014 8:34 pm : link
It sucks that we can't use the Bison package much because Demps fucking blows. It worked really well with Rolle, Hill and Mundy. Now Hill and Mundy are gone and Stevie Brown really is not very good.

It is a real shame that Cooper Taylor and Will Hill ended up losing the season with the Giants for pot and injury respectively. Hill is going to be a stud safety if his head is strainght and Taylor looked good in pre-season. Behre will get some work as he watches and learns.

Is it me or has this place gone A to Z upside down batshit fucking crazy calling for everycocksucker on the roster and half the front office, all the coaching staff to be dumped and cleaned house after a game we showed vast improvement in, This after every swinging dick on the site all summer long said about how we have to be patient, it's a work in progress, blah blah blah we have a dream secondasy and after 2 games it's like, demps sucks, DRC cant cover, schartz its out half the season, the other big FA secondary signing blew his pec, OBJ is MIA, all the FAs suck, Jerry is nowhere, Fuck Kuhn, Moore isn't coming along fast enough, last week Randle was fucking DEFINITIVELY WRITTEN OFF BY 90% OF TH GUYS HERE, as was also CLEARLY FUCKIGN STATED WE HAVE NO TE, and all you guys are batshit fucking crazy unstable emotional fucking kneejerk nutters that can't look at a goddamn think objectively and just talk random bullshit shamelessly out your asses. Like, noone is embarassed that their assholes make noise when they speak.absolute Mass hysteria.

You people need to shut the fuck up, realize the biggest fucking issues are already solved. You have a QB, you have a TE, The RBs will be fine and the OL will settle down.As for the defense that suddenly imploded with injuries and Fewell suddenly going from defensive GURU 14 days ago to inept needs to be fired, go to bed, get some sleep and take another look at thing on wedensday when the real injury reports come out and reassess from there.I am a negative dude, but you asses put me to shame.have a drink and take a nap people. Jesus.
When was Fewell a defensive GURU?

Must have been during one of those preseason 4th Qtr comebacks.
