In TC's presser one of his responses to a question about the o-line gives me hope. Here is the question and his response then I explain my hope:
Q: You’ve had to make a lot of movement with your offensive line, especially the guards, up to the first game. How do you think the guards played last night and maybe the overall offensive line?
A: I think there is good, there is bad. No one wants to hear that, but that’s what it is. There are some good plays, there are some bad plays. There are plays that I am sure the players would like to have over. I wish there was more continuity and consistency. You’d like to see it played like a veteran line that can look at each other, don’t even have to verbalize and know exactly what the intent is as the guy you are lining up next to, but that is not the case right now. We are going to have to play our way through and there are probably going to be other changes and other things that take place along the way that perhaps even at that point will keep us from having that type of continuity. But it is an effort to get to the best we can be, so that is just way it is.
I hope when he says "there are probably going to be other changes and other things that take place along the way that perhaps even at that point will keep us from having that type of continuity." that he is talking about possibly finding new upgrades to replace some of the line personnel we currently have because I just do not have any faith that this level of talent we currently have can be coached up enough to handle the better teams. I know it takes time for a line to get the continuity but I don't care. I don't want to waste any time with this current line because it is not ever going to be good enough.
So as far as I'm concerned the sooner we bring in better players the sooner they can work on that continuity. Here in lies my disappointment with JR. He just didn't give us a good enough team for the coaches to work with.
Jerry got his lunch money stolen too. There's lots of blame to go around. That lions D-line obliterated the run game.
it is:
a) we should play like that on OUR interior DL!
b) have been ranting about drafting guards high for ten years.
1. The entire Offense is still trying to grasp the new system. It’s going to take time, and we will continue to lose games until they get comfortable with it
2. There were far too many holes on this team to fill this past offseason to be able address all (that doesn’t let JR off the hook, IMO the O-line doesn’t have the talent because he ignored far too long)
3. The O-line has not developed any continuity as of yet. This too takes time, probably longer than it would normally take, because they are trying to learn new system at the same time
They can come from other teams if JR would get his head out of his ass and recognize that our urgency for this merits giving up a few future good draft picks.
When Schwartz comes back, I would put him at RG, where he might be more comfortable......have to hope them playing week, after week together, that these guys will start to "get it".....
If the staff concludes that Walton in unsalvagable, they can accelerate Richburg's move to center, where he seems destined to settle in eventually. I wouldn't expect that to happen at least until October, and probably until the bye, if/when Schwartz returns. Pulling the trigger at center while Schwartz is on IR means making a starter of Jerry, Snyder, Brewer or Reynolds - none of whom would necessarily represent a net gain from Walton.
Valentine on Mosley and Jerry - ( New Window )

Where are these "better players" going to come from? Guys on the street are out there for a reason. If you're lucky, you might be able to find some "bodies" to fill up the bench but that's about it. What they have is what they'll have to live with for the rest of season and all we can do is keep the fingers crossed that the current OL will play better as they become more familiar with each other.

This team is in no position to be giving up future draft picks. There's a lack of talent issue.
When Schwartz returns, he could play
- Right tackle if Beatty is terrible with Pugh replacing Beatty.
- Right gaurd if Mosely can't cut it.
- Left guard if Walton is the weak link as Richburg replaces him.
The key is that he can only play one position. If we have multiple weak areas, then we have to go into the draft again.
But we aren't without talent. Including Schwartz, 9 guys currently on the team started NFL games last season, Walton is a former and once-again starter, and Richburg a highly touted rookie starter.
I'm pretty confident that we have at least league average talent on OL, but we're in desperate need of continuity and likely to play like a bottom five unit, until Flaherty and Coughlin settle on a starting five and folks begin to understand their roles and their linemates.
So I think the chances that the Giants bring in new OL bodies this year are approximately 0%, but I think it would be a positive sign if we see them cut a guy or two.
It would mean the coaches and remaining players were on the same page and that the Giants brass had figured it out and no longer were hedging so many bets.

Ramifications to that strategy! You aren't going to get a starter and if it is a back-up, he is a back-up for a reason. Injuries, injuries, injuries, oh, and suspensions are impacting the OL. Beatty is coming off surgery, Schwartz is out, Moseley has back problems and Herman is suspended. The primary need is for Eli to become comfortable with the quickened pace and moving outside the pocket to extend plays. Add the need for the WR's to pay attention and The defensive backfield to get on the same page!
Snyder is an option too, though an unexciting one. I had forgotten about Herman. There could be a lot of changes in the weeks around the Giants' bye. If Beatty flames out, we might even see something like Pugh-Mosley-Richburg-Herman-Schwartz, which would represent a complete reboot from opening night, with three new starters and the other two in new positions.
