He is a center and a dam good one. He is showing how good he is by playing guard . He is undersize for that position,no experience and he looks good.
I had the giants taking richburg in my giants mock draft. 2nd rd. I knew the giants needed to draft a center and after watching him play in college i knew he was a future star at center.
The giants should not wait. Play him at center.
They drafted him because they saw versatility and a guy who wasn't limited to just one OL spot. It's stupid logic to say "they drafted a center, play him there"
He has more value if he can play well at guard.
Pugh was our best offensive lineman last year at RT. Your point?
Lewan was taken the pick before us.. but if making things up help you sleep at night... by all means.
And play who at RT?
All of these suggestions you have will do nothing but make the line worse overall. If you move a player to another spot, you have to actually fill the spot you moved them from.
If you put Richburg at C, we've got a gaping hole at one of the guard spots unless you really believe Moseley and Jerry will hold their own there or want to try to jam Walton into on one of those spots. And if you put Pugh on the left side, you have to move Beatty to the right.. which also probably wouldn't work.
You can't do that....this line needs to at least play together and see if there is improvement. They've played one 60 minute game. Let's see a few more.
If Richburg is going to play center, it will happen. But it probably won't be this year.
The season is still early. but i have to tell you if the o-line does not improve and the giants have a bad season' i will want new management, coaches big time. That is something i have never said since TC has been coach.
They drafted Richburg in the 2nd round because he could play both Center and Guard...they drafted him for that reason...they drafted him so they could play him next to Walton if needed...they didnt draft specifically to play Center...
They drafted Pugh because he could play both LT and RT and possibly some Guard if need be..In fact many thought he would translate better to guard...
you know how many players play LT in college and move to guard or RT...you know how many players do not play the position they played in college in the pros on the offensive line...
It is not as Black and White as you are making it out to be...these guys were drafted specifically for their felxibility on the offensive Line...Look David Dhiel..he played ever position on the offensive Line except Center...
Gee, I don't know.. maybe because the Giants felt that Pugh would be more effective at RT than any of the RT's who were on the board when they took him?
And maybe when they took Richburg, they liked that there was versatility they could play him at guard and not necessarily need him to play C right away and pigeonhole him there?
The Giants like offensive linemen who can play more than just one spot. It's good to have players like that we just don't have enough of them.
Just because RG and LT are probably our biggest OL problem spots right now doesn't mean you just shift 2 guys you like into those spots and fix the problem. All you do is create new holes.
Maybe next year he moves to center.
Be thankful he can play guard.
He can play elsewhere. But Walton hasn't been very good.

Wonderful. And the Giants drafted him because they also thought he could play elsewhere. Right now, it doesn't make any sense putting him at center.

Again, though. These aren't 1 part equations. If you put Richburg at C, you may stabilize C, but what happens to the guard spot you're vacating?
Do you think John Jerry at a guard spot (presumably LG, assuming Mosley returns and plays RG) will be more of a net positive than Walton at C? I would guess not.
Dominated on BOTH sides of the ball.
That is what AVERAGE does.
We are fucked unless we trade or until the draft and FA. Gonna be a long year unless the light somehow turns on for this line. Fingers crossed.

Pugh was quite good last year. Especially for a rookie playing on the opposite side of where he had in school. But.. I realize this is BBI and one poor performance basically eradicates all of that.
Now if they could just get a LT and LG (assuming Schwartz comes back healthy and plays RG)
So it's better that the 2 guys to his right (Walton and Jerry) are shaky at best now? And they guy to his left ain't so hot either. Put him where he belongs now, let him get the experience at his natural position.
If they move him to C, your LG is Snyder. Not ideal, unless Synder experiences a revival.

Great, you can pat yourself on the back and say you have 2/5ths of the line settled, but the guy to his left (Mosley) and right (Jerry) will still be shaky at best.

I'm not convinced that Walton is shaky. Getting beat by Suh and a different Nick Fairley isn't good enough proof. I'd rather have Walton and Richburg out there than Beatty and Mosely on the same side of the line.
It's not been one game for Pugh, he has not played well in the preseason games too.....
Why did the Giants sign a free agent RG, and make him play LG.....he has not played well at LG.....when his toe is OK, will he go back to LG, where a rookie has supposedly outplayed him, or will they put him at RG?
Every time they juggle this lineup, they lose continuity and confidence this line has.....communication is essential with the guy to the left and right of you.....If the Giants keep shuffling linemen, they are just going to be prone to mistakes....
Walton is a veteran on a line that needs veterans. This OL will get better each week if it stays healthy. Experience is the key and they'll get it together as they work together. Plus Beatty should round into shape soon enough as well.
Beatty-Richburg-Walton-Jerry-Pugh for 2014! Schwartz may NOT start again this year.
Richberg will always be a too small, easily over-powered OG. OC is the only position where he can excell.
Pugh will never be more than adequate at OT. He is too small and short-armed. Could be a Pro Bowl LG, but we would rather build a team with a mediocre RT.
Too small forever guaranteed!
