“I can only control what I can control, and that’s for me to block and get open, and that’s what I did,’’ Randle said.
What game was he watching or playing in?
lack of attitude and any sort of enthusiasm or positive energy. Okay, I get that these are "pros" and that's all college rah rah stuff etc. but this is still competition. Giants teams for several years now have walked around like this stuff is okay, and "hey, I get paid anyway". Sort of like this guy who "did his job". Well, how about a little more than doing your job? How about being pissed when things don't go well? How about turning the Gatorade table over when you screw up? Where's the passion and the anger? I am not talking stupid penalties and hurting people here but where is the enthusiasm and the hatred of losing? You just look at the bench and see well, nothing. Maybe it's me but I just don't see it.
Nicks goes from a receiver all the NFL feared to a scared, confused nothing, over-night ….
Randle has a big opportunity to step right in and sucks bad enough to have an undersized journeyman (Jernigan) send him to the bench. and he has the gall to say he's doing his job, just fine ?
He doesn't deserve a kick in the pants, he deserves to be grabbed by the collar and brithes and be thrown out the door
here was the best one, per Sy. Randle might be fast, strong, a great athlete, etc., but he simply is "not a football player." There's a BIG difference.
Is a HUGE problem when they have Randle rated as a #1 pick. I also believe that Reese said they had Sintim rated as a first rounder. All NFL teams make drafting errors as it really is a crapshoot but the recent history of Giant draft picks with Reese and his scouting department in charge has been dismal.
I do have a question about Randle though. He was pretty good as a rookie and he seems to regress each year. How and why has this happened?
I don't know how you would say Randle regressed from Â
...Randle hasn't done much at all. This is year #3, only game #1, so I'm still holding out hope but there does come a point where you have to say "no go" and move on. Problem is, Beckham isn't healthy and he is the only other guy on the roster worthy of moving up.
Lets face it folks, if Randle is just plain bad we are going to be plain bad cause we don't have another #2 and possibly no #1 on the roster this year. Our OL sucks, yes, but so do our wideouts.
Kevin M. Gilbride's two years as WR coach were a black hole for player development. Nicks and Cruz slipped; Jernigan and Randle stagnated; Barden disappeared.
Randle wasn't some obscure reach at the bottom of round two. Mayock, Kiper and Lande all had him as a late first-round pick pretty close to the draft, rating him near or above Alshon Jeffery. Randle obviously has warts - that's why he dropped so far. There was also some confusion about his speed because of the huge swing between his Combine and Pro Day times.
Mostly, though, he needed coaching. By most indications, in his first two years, he got the level of tutoring you would expect from the OC's son, whose highest previous level of attainment was to coach the receivers at Temple. Whatever else McAdoo, Langsdorf, and Johnson may be, at least they represent a break from the nepotism and school-tie loyalty that elevated KMG to a vitally important position on the staff. (He's still around, coaching the TEs. Considering the talent there, maybe none of McAdoo's preferred candidates would take the job.)
One last note about Randle: The first 69 picks in the 2012 draft included eleven WRs. Randle was the ninth, at #63. Of the other ten, three (Hill, Jenkins and Graham) have been cut; three (Broyles, Posey and Quick) have shown less than Randle; one (Blackmon) hasn't played since October 2013 and is suspended for all of 2014. Only Michael Floyd at #13, Kendall Wright at #20 and Jeffery at #45 look better than Rueben Randle. The draft is hard.
But I'm not ready to give up on him yet. He had 600 yards and 6 TDs (15 yards per catch) as the 3rd option in his sophomore year, a year in which the passing game didn't exactly flourish. He's learning a new system and he isn't the sharpest sandwich in the deck. But the kid can play football. I have hope that he'll come around.
Let's be honest, it's not like it's the key to a successful season. As if the Giants will suddenly became contender if the lightbulb comes on for him. It sure will help, but they'd also have to find a handful of offensive linemen in the meantime...
The NYG organization isnt a cure-all for these kinds of guys.
Some guys come in broken, and will leave broken.
That exact thought crossed my mind.

If he opens his mouth one more time he will be on the street next season.

One game into the 2014 season and we've concluded that he's regressed from last year?
