Francesser saying Mcadoo is Mara's Boy and his hire.

Rich Houston-NYG-WR-1971 : 9/10/2014 4:09 pm
In turn, TC and Eli are bystanders in this GB like offense and they do not feel like they "own" this offense.

Francesser said it was weird for Mara to speak out after week one to keep the faith with Mcaddoo offense. He said it was atypical for Mara to speak out at this juncture of the season and indicates TC and Eli are separated from McAdoo and his offense

He's never been the type to interfere in that way. The Giants are a very business like organization. He's not stepping on his coach's toes like this.

I think we saw at the end of last year that he's clearly the type that likes to interfere in that way. He threw the coaches under the bus needlessly in that press conference and defended the front office without any real evaluation.

Perhaps my biggest fear going forward is that he's growing into a meddling owner and that if there is regime change he's going to be calling the shots more than he should.

He has a right and a responsibility to speak out about the success of the team. That's not the same as dictating coordinators so your first paragraph is BS.

And as far as a real regime change that is his job and his job alone so your second paragraph is BS.

His right, sure. Just like its Jerry Jones' right to pretend to be a real GM. His responsibility? Since when is it an owner's responsibility to publicly question the playing time of a particular player? That wasn't business like in addition to being poor evaluation.
It's been clear to me that Mara is way more involved in football
baadbill : 9/10/2014 6:22 pm : link
operations than most people realize ... and that interference is undoubtedly negative (as it always is with owners) ... to the extent it's true, it increases the liklihood that the golden era of Giants football is over and won't likely be back until the mantle is passed to a new Mara who stays the fuck out of football decisions.
umm .. very doubtful Francesa said any of this today

Owners
Boo57 : 9/10/2014 6:54 pm : link
With the exception of men like George Halas or Al Davis, coaches who became owners... When an owner involves himself with "on the field" operations, the team will suffer.

If Mara wants Reese as his GM, then he should allow Reese to hire the HC and the HC to hire the assistants.

Perhaps Mara admires Jerry Jones. If so, the Giants will play like the Cowboys.
there is this...

rom his office about 20 yards above the Giants practice facility in East Rutherford, it’s easy for Mara to be blinded by what he has accomplished, especially when the noon sun pounds the generous window space and fills the dark room with bright light.

But Mara is always thinking about what happens next.

When the team made an aggressive push for offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo this past offseason — an unusual move for the typically insular Giants — some around the league thought this was the owner’s way of securing a successor to Coughlin.

"Coach in waiting," said one league source in a text to The Star-Ledger. "Some see him (McAdoo) as the next Andy Reid."

When asked if that was the dream scenario, Mara nodded.

"I think it’s certainly in the back of your mind (when making the decision), but I’d hate to anoint anyone before they’ve even called a play in a regular-season game," he said. "We also have some other coaches on this staff that I think are qualified. So I’ll say the real dream scenario would be to have several guys who make it a very tough decision for you."

"If you can beat them, join them." There is only one football family that thinks in those weird constructions. John Mara, talent evaluator extraordinare. Would not surprise me at all.
Sounds like John Mara

You're kind of full of shit. Francessa speculated or floated this theory. He never said anything was definite.

Mike wondered if Mara made the hire and thrust mcadoo on coughlin and Eli.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Looks like you're not bright enough to see this is another bullshit post by Rich Houston. No basis in fact. Nothing to back it up but you're willing to say shit about Mara because of it.
I'm very surprised
arnief : 9/10/2014 9:17 pm : link
how little mention there is in all these frustration threads about Chris Mara becoming Senior VP of player evaluation in 2011. John Mara doesn't need to "meddle" in the football decisions his brother is making them. Chris has wanted to be the GM of the Giants for a long time. He almost got the official title when Ernie retired. In 2011 he was "promoted" to the same level as Jerry Reese senior VP. Jerry Reese has the GM title but how much authority can he have with draft picks, free agents and roster decisions when one of the owners has the title Senior VP of player evaluation? So it appears Chris Mara has inherited the Wellington Mara talent evaluation gene. George Young must be rolling over in his grave.

The problem with this post is that it assumes a whole bunch of things.

Like, you're implying that he's only got the job because of the name.

And, that he doesn't know what he's doing.

He's been in talent evaluation for a long time, and for as much as you want to make a big deal of the Giants' mistakes, they've also gotten a lot right.
Chris Mara
arnief : 9/10/2014 10:04 pm : link
has the job because his name is Mara. He has the job for the exact same reason John Mara has his job. Everyone is screaming that the Giants have no talent and he's the highest ranking talent evaluator in the organization since 2011. But Jerry Reese and Marc Ross are the problem and need to be fired? Doesn't make sense to me.

Because Reese pulls the trigger on all the picks, and Ross weighs in heavily on every single prospect.

It's one thing to make draft decision based on bad scouting. it's another to make decisions where you ignore your scouts.

If we keep failing, rest assured we'll find out which is going on real quickly.

Who gives a shit what he thinks. All he does is sit on his fat fucking ass and give his opinion. Something we are all capable of doing. More then half the time he's wrong.

I have to laugh. People call to talk to him and then they thank him for taking the call. Really? He should be thanking them. And then he responds what's up in such a manner like its a bother to have to converse with the chump who had the nerve to call and then have to talk to him.

So much heavy lifting. It must be a killer for him.

This is so true, but his hubris is so god damn entertaining it actually makes him hilarious and such an impressive, never ending source of unintentional comedy that he literally has a cult following (see francessacon bar crawl)...
Assuming this year is a down year
oipolloi : 9/10/2014 11:20 pm : link
The Giants will almost certainly let TC go, partly because they have to see Eli with another coach before making a decision on him.

But I don't think we should right off the Giants just yet. The OL has to come together for them to have a successful season but that can sometimes happen more quickly than you would expect
The Giants drafts have been very poor in recent years
oipolloi : 9/10/2014 11:23 pm : link
so while I don't think we can just blame Chris Mara, I do think it has to be considered as a possibility
