Question About NFL Sunday Ticket-Direct TV

Jim in Tampa : 9/12/2014 12:08 pm
I know some long-term subscribers got it for free and others got a discount. Just wondering if anyone remembers what the original 2014 NFL Sunday Ticket price was current subscribers.

I normally call DTV to get it for free, but didn't think I had any leverage this year because I still have a year left on my contract with DTV. So I figured I would just pay it this year. However, I just noticed that DTV did not bill me for the NFL Sunday Ticket. (I guess they must have taken me off auto-renew when I was threatening to cancel my DTV service last year.)

I want to call them today to order it, but I want to make sure I get the lowest price that they offered. (I know there used to be an early-bird price and then a higher price just before the season started.)

Anyone know the lowest "early-bird price" DTV offered this year for NFL Sunday Ticket?
They have 2 prices

One for just the Sunday ticket. I think that is like $349 for the season and $100 more for the Sunday ticket Max, that gets you the DirecTV Red Zone channel and the Fantasy tracker channel.
I was quoted $329 for Sunday Ticket Max with no contract

Got it for free by agreeing to a 12-month contract, but since I wasn't in a contract at the time, I had some leverage.
Do they let folks

w/o DirectTV order the Sunday Ticket internet only? If not, they really should.

don't think that just because you are still under contract that you cant get it for free or discounted, you still can. Not as easy but absolutely can be done.

They only allow that if you can NOT get DTV in your market. You have to submit your residence info to see if you qualify.
Because I upgraded(finally) to the Genie, mini-genie,

i had to commit to 2 years to get the equipment for free. They still gave me a deal for approx. $30/month for 6 months for the Max package..

However, I just recently cancelled(for the first time since I started in '96) the Sunday ticket because I have a waiver for the LA/NY national feeds on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, so I get all the Giants games.

I kept the ST through the years because of my appetite for anything NFL. That has waned. My only care centers around the Giants. Also, I bought the max package of NFL rewind with coaches tape, so that, with the national channels, gives me all I need

Thanks. I figured I could still get SOMETHING if not the entire package for free. It's the "not easy" part that kept me from doing it. Just not up for "threatening" DTV and the back an forth hassle of negotiations.
by not easy

it might take 15 minutes rather than 5. Still worth the time.
Mook is 100% right on this

Call every year to get the discount. I did earlier in the summer and got Sunday ticket Max for free and NHL Center Ice for free. Ive been with DTV for 15yrs but as Mook says call and they will work with you to keep the business.

I did the "threaten" thing, which I wasn't looking forward too. Actually, it wasn't too bad. I was almost going to skip it and pay the full boat.

I got Sunday Ticket half off (about $160 off the $349), my regular package $20 off for 12 months, $10 off a DVR for 12 months, plus $5 each off HBO and Showtime for 6 months. So I "saved" 160+240+120+60=$580. Worth 15 min of my time and a little discomfort.

I pretty much got the same deal as you. I got the Ticket for the $160 you mentioned but they threw in enough other discounts to more than cover the cost. The fact that I also get the MLB package every year certainly helped.
Price

Was 6 payments of $39.99. When I called to cancel Sunday ticket they reduced it to $34.99. When I called a few weeks later to cancel everything, i got it for free and $25 off my bill for a year. Had to sign up for paperless billing and agree to 1yr extension. My contract was up however so that gave me more leverage possibly.
I Made The Call

Finally bit the bullet and went through the uncomfortable (for me) call to DTV in which I claimed I wanted to cancel despite 1 year left on my contract.

After just a few minutes I got the NFL Sunday Ticket for free, plus $30 per month off my bill. Had to add another year on the deal though.
Nice

Way to go. Call was not comfortable for me either but very worth it. I even got Showtime free for 4 months.
I made the call yesterday as well

14 year customer, most discounts expiring, and paid for ST in full for the first 7-8 years and the last six got it for free twice, paid a discount twice and didn't order it all all twice since they wouldn't give any discount.

I simply went to retention and said the truth, bill too high what can you do for me? A little bit of back and forth and they gave about $30 a month in discounts, free Showtime for a year and then asked me, "Are you a sports fan?"

Bingo.

She offered me 1/2 price off ST and before I could even answer she said hold on a minute maybe I can do something better. After a few minutes she got approval from her supervisor and the supervisor herself(she said) had to put in the FREE ST in my account. Apparently the 1st rep can only give 1/2 off but the super has to give the FREE ST, but who knows.

Best part, no contract extension(although I would have signed one).

Jim, I agree, not something I look forward to, but the Giants will not be on much local LA TV this year and I wanted to option to see them.
