Looking to expand on pumpkin beers. Usually drink shipyard which I do really like but looking for advice on some other stuff. Just picked up a 6 of smuttynose pumpkin and harpoon ufo pumpkin.
Southern Tier - Pumking is my personal favorite, but it's very
I also like Southampton Pumpkin Ale. There was a new one that came out recently called Roadsmary' s Baby which was delicious too. I'm not a blue moon fan but their pumpkin ale is good too.
RE: Southern Tier - Pumking is my personal favorite, but it's very
sweet - tastes like pumpkin pie. They just came out with an imperial pumpkin stout which I'm trying out tomorrow at the game.
I'd like to try the stout as I feel the Pumking is a bit too forward on the Cinnamon. I didn't feel it was too sweet, kind of expected it. But the qualities of a stout lend itself to a pumpkin beer.
Check out Warlock by Southern Tier. Hands down my favorite pumpkin beer. Tastes like pumpkin at 8.6 percent alcohol. FYI, I have had most of the beers mentioned in this thread and think they are all decent.
not a huge fan of the draft, and absolutely no cinnamon around the rim. it tastes ok for the first sip, but then makes me feel like I'm drinking out of a dirty, gritty glass.
The fall in NY is so dope. I agree with whoever said Pumking is a little too cinnamon-y. I intend on trying a bunch of new ones soon and will revert.
On a slightly off-topic question, if anyone has good oatmeal/milk stout recommendations, I'd be greatly appreciative. The best milk stout I ever had was made by a brewery in NC that doesn't seem to ship outside of that state :(
is probably the Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout from Cape Ann Brewing Company. Beware - it's 11% ABV but doesn't taste anywhere close to an 11, so if you're not aware of the ABV going in, the alcohol content will sneak up on you very quickly. Cape Ann also makes a non-Imperial variant that clocks in at 7% ABV, but I've only had the Imperial.
Pumking is good but I've only ever had it on tap. Greenport Harbor Leaf Pile is really, really good too, and is more 'drinkable' - if I had to session a single pumpkin beer I would go with the Greenport.
Of pumpkin beer. Oktoberfests are where it's at. However I tried Heavy Seas pumpkin stout. It was the first one I found tolerable. Certainly couldn't drink a pint though. Unless it's a true lambic, don't fruit the beer! :)
but last year was 10x better IMO. Pumking was much better this year than last however. I'm not high on DFH in general but their Punkin is always consistently delicious. If you guys are in NJ, Bolero Snort's Fall Pasture was actually one of my favorites this season.
New to the pumpkin beer/ale story, but anxious to learn. Prefer ales myself -- still stuck on Bass -- and think that excessive sweetness would spoil it for me. Which of these is on the "dry" side (if that's the right way to ask the question)?
which I found out recently after a trip to the local beverage center. I had only had the Pumpkinhead and thought it was fantastic, so when I saw the Smashed Pumpkin I decided to try that....it didn't disappoint! They also have an apple beer, not a cider, called Applehead that I had at a beerfest once, but I can never find it in the stores, if you see it give it a try...really good.
I also like Brooklyn's Post Road - much more subtle, but good.

And now I'm wildly thirsty

Crooked ladder also has a good pumpkin ale as well.
