I don't care about politics in this situation, that shouldn't come into play in something as grotesque as this. There are also a large number of muslims who have publicly denounced ISIS' actions.
Really? How many constitutes a large number? 5?
You continue to show your ignorance in matters beyond cooking. Please tell me you're not serious about only a small number of Muslims denouncing ISIS and its actions. Exactly how many Muslims have you interacted with or even know personally?
Back in the days when I followed conservative politics there was exactly 1 Muslim cleric that Fox news and talk radio could come up with to denounce Muslim terrorists. I don't believe it's changed all that much in the last few years. There are close to 2 billion Muslims in the world. Does it really matter how many you or I know?

Well, there was that one time he wanted to try shawarma...
Our good friends the Saudis beheaed 19 people last month
with a broad brush basically assuming that all Muslims are radical and want to kill us. Experts on the topic and defenders of the Muslim faith say that only about 15% of them are radical and want the west and the Jews dead.
Well, there are A LOT of Muslims in the world and if you do the math (and if that percentage is correct) then 15% of them is equal to the population of the United States. That is a lot of people who want us dead.
Bill in Utah - they interviewed 1,000 people. They could have just happened to get a few more muslims. Who knows their sampling methodology?
I don't think communists or socialists are pro isis.
Communists are typically atheist and not affiliated with religious groups at all.
Only religious psychos are pro isis. And particularly religious Muslim psychos.
I appreciate your answer, really. But who are the French people who are supporting them, then, and why?
even some non-muslim, non socialist people in France hate the US and hate jews so it's not outlandish to believe they'd support ISIS. the difference could be any number of sources, reasons or a margin of error with the polling results. I wouldn't get hung up on it.
if you read the comments below that article, there are some French folk commenting that they think that number is ludicrous, and the article is rubbish. Polling numbers are extremely inconsistent with reality, unless every single person in the country were to get polled
because ISIS is a bunch of terrorists. Their game is psychological. I do think that this would be best handled by the other Arab countries. Let them get all medieval on each other.

yep. 15-20% of 1.2 bil is around a USA full of fundamentalists. Good thing they are on the primitive end of the spectrum instead of the modern 21st century side. If they had the brains and the tech that the infidels and Zionists do, that could be the end for lots of people.
these scumbags have been beheading people their entire existence. They behead their own people on a daily basis. It's what they do. Every American on the planet could feel just like tough guy Bill does, and it wouldn't change a thing.

All of these are exactly the same I've learned here

Yes, it actually matters when you make such an ignorant comment regarding an entire swath of people based solely on your idiotic political view. You make an assertion that a large number of Muslims do not denounce ISIS and its horrific acts when you have no clue or experience dealing with everyday Muslims. And if you're basing your understanding of how Muslims think and act based on shitty conservative TV and talking heads, then that tells me exactly how much I need to know regarding how stupid you are...and that's a compliment.
RE: Our good friends the Saudis beheaed 19 people last month
BUT the notion that they are "un-Islamic" is stupid. This sort of movement has numerous parallels in Islamic history, in fact it was a recurring phenomenon for the first several centuries of Islam. A band of young fundamentalists purporting to wrest the faith and the faithful from decadent "Islamic" monarchies, from Muhammad himself to Shiism to the Islamic dynasties in Spain, they understand themselves to be an echo of history and if we dismiss the pull that has for some in those communities we do it at our peril.
This is part of Arab culture. They've been fighting with each other and against Europe and other cultures for centuries. This is not new. Them being able to terrorize millions over the internet is new.
It's been my impression that people on the far left are more sympathetic to revolutionary causes. I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong in the belief.
I can't entirely disagree that sometimes the folks on the "far left" tend to get confused and defend organizations like Hamas. They get mixed up. I have wondered myself why I often hear progressive or liberal people defend the most hardcore religious freaks just because they happen to be Muslim Palestinians or Lebanese instead of White American Evangelicals. But I think it has to do with a) Jew hating b) USA bashing c) not linking the Muslim Palestinians with the massive Muslim majority in that region.
Other than that? Socialists are way more like the Jews who started kibbutzes in Israel than the Islamist radicals who hate even other tribes within their own religion enough to slaughter them in mass and behead them too.
It's like fuckwads on the right who prefer Putin to Obama...

a chopping block. They're sawing off people's heads with a hunting knife. Glad you're comforted by the idea that you think it's not a bad end.
Just let him have this one...it's another one of those contrarian thing he's good at. I think anyone seeing the brutal way these assholes are sawing off these victims' heads would agree that it's a brutal and certainly horrifically painful way to die. But radar doesn't believe so.
ISIS is an evil, nihilistic entity

that said, among methods of execution, is beheading especially barbaric? I would imagine its basically instantaneous death.
...because to say this, it tells me you've never had the displeasure of seeing one of these beheadings with your own eyes.
these scumbags have been beheading people their entire existence. They behead their own people on a daily basis. It's what they do. Every American on the planet could feel just like tough guy Bill does, and it wouldn't change a thing.
I don't know why you'd call me a tough guy. I think we should get the hell out of the whole region.
Considering these terrorists are beheading people with knives you'd use to cut a London broil, I would venture to guess that these beheadings are NOT instantaneous.
The assessment by many experts who have watched the videos is that...
the reason why ISIS cuts away from showing the act of the actual beheading in the video is because the event is even more brutal and messier (and takes far longer to achieve) than one would expect a beheading to be that even ISIS knows that their overall goal of instilling fear through these videos will be negatively impacted as it will instead cause anger and resolve among the viewers or even make ISIS look like brutal amateurs unable to efficiently behead someone. One would hope that death comes instantly, but the reality is that it comes after agonizing pain that seem to last an eternity.
Considering that historically (especially with the advent of the guillotine) beheading has been considered a humane execution method, it isn't a particularly stupid question, just ignorant. Ignorance =/= stupidity.
I imagine that if he's read the responses here that he now understands that the method of beheading that ISIS employs is not humane in any way.
Sites like bare naked Islam host tons of this media that gets censored here. I can't account for all of it. But take a look at a beheading. It's not like game of thrones with an axe. In real life, it's practically a giant butter knife. There are probably ideological difference here if people don't see the significance of these gruesome acts.
RE: Normally I' give radar plenty of shit for his contrarian crap;

The issue isn't his post on this topic alone. Reason why I am being so hard on him (and I'm assuming others as well) is that he ignores any form of self assessment of the topic at hand or even reading what other people with a bit more knowledge about a topic than him just so that he can find an opposing view or non-mainstream view on any topic being discussed. It's almost like a game to him to come up with a position that has not been discussed by the majority. And if that is based on any kind of a research, then it wouldn't warrant the beating. However, when it is just a normal MO for his posts, than ignorance does equal stupidity.
So yes, radar trying to be radar makes his post stupid as well as being ignorant.
Please explain how we are fighting a proxy war in Syria. I am completely stumped on that one.
As far as the 16% number in France is concerned, I expect that it is a combination of:
--bad polling
--SOME of their Muslims
--Some of France's extreme haters, including fascists, who just like seeing people dead. France has a disproportionate amount of extreme haters.
ISIS, I think, is playing a very stupid game. With every televised beheading of a civilian, they pull more of the world into a true alliance with the US on obliterating them. Australia is now committed to sending troops, for example. And ISIS, by their actions has made two things more likely in in Iraq. First, that the new PM will actually be successful in keeping a sloppy but viable coalition together. And second, that some or many Sunni tribes will join the fight against ISIS
What we still need is for more Muslim nations to get off their asses, but there is a reasonable chance that ISIS by their actions will make that more likely.
The vast majority of Eurosocialists are NOT on the far left. Socialism is far, far, far from being a homogeneos set of beliefs. Haters in France are much more likely to be fascists or communisits.

So there is that.
Thanks, George. Funny thing is, I was in France a month ago and the people were way nicer than I expected. But then, we didn't talk politics :)
Here's an anecdote from my oldest son. On his last deployment to Afghanistan, his team saw a video of a nine year old boy, a Taliban inductee, behead a captive man with a knife. A nine year old boy.
The video was complete from start to finish. I know the Taliban isn't ISIS/ISIL, but how the hell do you combat this shit?
I've defended my country. Fought in the Gulf War. Don't give me your bullshit about what I'm horrified of.
I glad your all cool and shit with other peoples children getting tortured on live television.
Seriously? Do you need a venn diagram drawn out for you?

ISIS could not have come into existence absent the USA's direct invasion of Iraq and the USA's invasion via proxy of Syria.
