Larry Donnell

NY-Fan : 9/14/2014 9:04 pm
How is it that at a position that looked like it was going to be the weakest on the team they are getting the most production from one of the players. The season won't finish this way but right now Donnell is on pace for 96 rec for 1,096 yards 8 tds. He has looked pretty good so far.
He got coached up and Eli seems to trust him

I think he'll only get better with experience.

Glad we have a young guy to develop. We will likely struggle this year with all these new faces; the new offensive system and so forth but we MUST have strong youth to build around and at least Donnell seems like he is one to build around.

has looked very good at receiving. Not so much at blocking, but hey it's a start. And it beats the hell out of Robinson, who in his third year is still #3 on the depth chart, behind UDFA Donnell, and Fells, an aging vet nearing the end of his career.
Donnell is pretty athletic and

Can catch the hell out of the ball. Love it. Keep going at him Eli.

This. I've been impressed with his ability/toughness to go get the f'n ball
I'd have to see those catches again
xman : 9/14/2014 9:30 pm : link
but were they poorly thrown balls?
Confidence

could go a long with a guy like Donnell. Glad to see he's adding a much needed facet to the offense.
Robinson

I think I just pooped my pants trying to process that one.
He's been impressive, it's encouraging to see,

Hope he keeps it up, as disappointing as the start has been, it'd be an awful lot uglier if he hadn't stepped up, and that's a little scary to think about.
ah, anyone here impressed with Donnell is smoking serious crack

Donnell being featured as primary receiver is a travesty to this offense. He is only being thrown too as a 3rd choice because our WR's can't break coverage
Well that's about the biggest compliment Donnell could get

He's why it's been proven over and over again

that we know flucking squat about players they study with fine tooth combs 24/7 albeit they're not perfect. Obviously, he's a work in progress with his blocking

And making every play that comes his way.

I'd rather see Donnell catch the ball than Cruz drop the ball in a key situation.
Few of Donnell's catches have been easy balls.

He's been Eli's panic outlet, and caught just about, if not everything.

Not sure what else you can ask for. He's doing exactly what's needed. He makes first downs and bails out his QB.
He's looked pretty good
Jerry in DC : 9/15/2014 10:11 am : link
Made some nice catches - done a good job as a solid receiving option from a position that looked really questionable coming into the year. It's a positive development.
Its nice to see a players confidence build like that.
Curtis in VA : 9/15/2014 10:14 am : link
He's finally getting comfortable and he really did make some nice catches yesterday.
Teams will now be
mrvax : 9/15/2014 10:31 am : link
forced to account for Donnell. I'd expect his catches to go down a little and someone else benefiting from it.

Hey, Fells made a nifty 1 yard catch too!

All in all I'm glad we have another Boss/Ballard type guy.

His September so far is very similar to Ballard's October in 2011.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/15/2014 11:29 am : link
Things turned south for Jake after the New England game: key drops vs. New Orleans and Philly, the sprained MCL and finally the devastating knee blowout in the Super Bowl.

Here's hoping Donnell continues to develop. He has a long way to go as a blocker, but so did Boss and Ballard when they first broke into the lineup. If Donnell stays healthy, he certainly has the body to round out his game.
Definitely need work on his blocking
SwirlingEddie : 9/15/2014 11:45 am : link
Several of the Giants' poor running plays can be traced back to him to some degree. I'd love to have a good blocking TE again on this team.

But that said, he has been a positive and pleasant surprise in receptions.
he's so much better than Myers

Surprisingly, yes he is.

When Eli isn't sharp it's really nice to have a guy who can just go get the damn ball on an average pass. It helps Eli get in rhythm - and Eli needs that.
