Richburg was bailed out big time on a missed block that caused a fumble that he just stared at while it was on the ground for a second or 2, but other than that, they blocked really well. The result.....what looked to be a solid offense that can move the ball. I am at least encouraged by that.
I'm sick of moral victories. We need to win some actual games here or else its going to be last year all over again. We have to play smarter...
The run blocking was not quite as good and needs to be better, though.
This team just has to stop freaking turning the ball over and having special teams miscues. It was the theme last year and it's back again this year.
If you told me we'd get through all 60 minutes this Sunday without turning it over vs. Houston, I would tell you right now that we'd win. Unfortunately, I still can't trust this team to protect the rock.
My big worry right now is Jon Beason. Even if he does come back quickly, this looks like something that can linger all year and impact his play significantly. We saw what kind of difference maker he can be (and we need) last year.
Losing Thurmond sucks big time, but "fortunately," he is a just a nickel corner in a deep secondary. If there's a lose we can over come, it's him. This isn't to say it's not a big deal. It is. I'm just saying our secondary is our deepest unit.
I agree the offensive line blocked well, and I think they will run block better against less ferocious DTs. They actually run blocked quite well in the Jets preseason game and I'm expecting to see more of that moving forward.
I think we really need to see what Beckham can do ASAP. His presence alone should open things up as I don't think teams are very worried about Jernigan.
Onward.
