If we go 3-13 what chages you expect the Giants to make...

Planet X : 9/15/2014 12:08 pm
Cleaning house is not a option but a must. All coaches gone, except maybe McAdoo, you don't want to start ALL OVER with a new offensive playbook, assuming that McAdoo does a decent job, let Coughlin retire but fire ALL the other coaches. Player wise try and get the team younger and look for another quarterback because after next year Eli is due for a new contract and his current contract eats up too much cap room. We have several options, either offer Eli a three year contract that is cap friendly and that will not eat up nearly as much cap as his current contract or release him after the end of the season if we are convinced he his no longer a franchise quarterback then go with Nassib who seems to play good under this new system or try to do what the Saints did a few years back with Drew Breese and get via Free Agency or trade a quarterback who we believe can instantly step in and at least help us get to the playoffs or if we are in the draft position draft Winston or Marobola sp?? as our future quarterback or a quarterback who would be NFL ready FROM DAY ONE.
I think they'll had a very high

would be gone also under this scenerio.. any new head coach coming in will want to hire his own assistants...
If they clean house
nygiants16 : 9/15/2014 12:11 pm : link
meaning new Gm and Coach...i expect the new head coach to pick the OC so Mcadoo would probably be gone especially if they hire an offensive coach..

If Coughlin and Reese are both gone i expect Eli will be gone because the Coach and GM would want to get their Qb which probably means Mariota or Winston...

the best prt would be no more fewell and dropping back into deep zone on 3rd longs any more...i hate the tampa 2...

Winston is only a franchise QB in the California Penal League.

But if the worst happens, I think there would be a thorough house cleaning. Which is unsettling to say the least.
No matter how this season ends, the current coaching staff will be
redthumper32 : 9/15/2014 12:24 pm : link
gone. It is time to refresh, the problem is, who do they bring in? Will it be an older retread or a young head coach? It is blatantly obvious the oline has to be addressed, there are a few good players there, maybe they need to be coached better. With Fewell gone perhaps better defensive schemes will result in better play. In any case, the next 2 or 3 seasons are not going to be pretty.
Why isn't cleaning house an option?

How about another seven and nine season
blueblood'11 : 9/15/2014 12:28 pm : link
The way they're going I'll take five and eleven which may very well be the case. I think they have to make a change. This is four years running we keep hearing the same schtick after every game.

The truth is in 2011 they sucked too until something ignited them when they played the Jets and Cruz scored on that 99 yard pass play. Up until that time people were bitching and moaning and Tom was on the hot seat then already. How much more of this are we supposed to accept.

Again I know we are lucky to have two Super Bowls in the past seven years but it seems Tom is constantly on the hot seat with this team. Even in the years they won those two championships. No one expected them. 2008 was their best year under Tom until Plax almost blew his nuts off. Other then that they have been a middle of the road team.

If Eli is released, they need a competent play calling pocket passer that the receivers and coaches have confidence in, not a guy who is a project and has questionable legal issues bound to come back to haunt him in the new NFL.

seriously over rated the overall talent level and specifically the OL, LBs, TEs. I like Coughlin, but I think this will be too long of a building job for a 68 year old Head Coach. If it comes to a flush job, I hope TC is allowed to retire. I would really hate to see him fired and give all the jackals who hounded him even in good times the satisfaction. Like him or not as a coach, he is a good and decent man.

Fewewll should have been gone this season

They need new blood @ the DC position. As for the Draft it's either a Franchise QB or LT even if you have to move up to get one. I'd rather LT and go with Nassib if Eli struggles but I would make it clear, best player plays.
I'd expect

the Giants to do their due diligence and not panic.

You can't just evaluate a record. For example, what if most of their losses were by 1 score or less?

You'd have to review the actual game tapes and see what wasn't working. Was it certain players that don't fit the new scheme? Was it the scheme? Did things improve as the season went on? Why/why not?

Maybe when things are evaluated you come to a conclusion that the new scheme is flawed and you make a coaching change, but you have to remember that they did a massive reshuffling last season. Is it worth it to change schemes and going through growing pains all over again?

Even if all 13 losses were all by one score or less, it'd still be time for major changes. 13 losses is 13 losses.
Really?

You'd just blindly fire the entire staff without factoring in any of the extenuating circumstances?
None needed if we win the last three!

New coach, new QB
Jerry in DC : 9/15/2014 1:14 pm : link
continue the purging of vets from last offseason and/or make them compete for their spots - Kiwanuka, Beatty, maybe Rolle, competition for Walton, maybe the vet DTs.

Hopefully bring in some cheap young FAs - guys who have talent but didn't really "make it" at their 1st stop. They don't have to be stars, but just getting some guys who can compete for spots, especially at LB and OL would be nice. We should have a fair amount of cap space if we really shake things up.

It will be really important to have the right coach/QB combo. We'll need an offense that emphasizes the QBs strengths - not pigeon-holing him into a pre-existing offense.
Just as the Texans had to fire Rick Smith after going 2-14...
Big Blue Blogger : 9/15/2014 1:21 pm : link
Oh, wait... they didn't. I guess he was saved by all those Super Bowls Houston has won during his tenure as GM. Oh, wait... they haven't.

Could Reese get fired? It's possible. But there is absolutely nothing in this organization's history or its established MO that would suggest that will happen.

I also think, if the offense shows signs of coming around, that McAdoo could easily stick, and that he might even be a candidate for promotion - like Wade Phillips in Denver when Dan Reeves was fired.
Their record won't be THAT bad,
81_Great_Dane : 9/15/2014 1:34 pm : link
which is actually going to make it harder to make changes.

7-9 probably gets TC to retire, and the new HC chooses his staff. Fewell and Quinn go. Ross on the bubble unless this year's rookie class truly shines.

6-10 or 5-11 gets you that, plus a major housecleaning in the scouting/personnel dept. Ross definitely goes. Reese on the bubble unless the season is lost due to an Eli injury.

4-12 or 3-13, Eli injury or not, gets you that, plus Reese goes.

2-14 or worse, They probably are firing everyone but Pat Hanlon and Nilay Shah.

Anything short of the playoffs
phil fromphilly : 9/15/2014 1:50 pm : link
And I would fire the entire coaching staff, the GM and clean the shit out of the front office. I would absolutely trade Eli for as much as I could get for him and use my top 3 or 4 picks to shore up the offensive line and linebacker positions. I would give Nassib the first shot at the starting job but bring in a veteran to compete as well.

This all should have happened this past January but ownership is just too loyal at times.

while the org's history can't be dismissed, you also can't overlook the likely possibility that John Mara and Steve Tisch will have a different approach than their fathers.
Nassib?
Mendenhall : 9/15/2014 2:49 pm : link
Are you guys nuts? Based on how he played a few quarters in the preseason against backups? I'm no Eli fan but he's staying because no matter what Mara will not fire Reese. He will be given another chance.

This team is weak in many areas and we are in year 2 of at least 5 years of mediocrity.

True... But the NYG operate at a high standard of personal conduct. I could see them having a real problem with drafting Winston.

I would expect Fewell to go, and a big shape up in personal department.
I am a big Tom Coughlin fan,
GiantFanInTX : 9/15/2014 3:11 pm : link
and always will be, but I do believe every coach has a lifespan in the NFL. John Madden said it himself and I agree with him wholeheartedly. I think it may be time for change, and not just because the team is going through a downward trend. That being said, talent wins in the NFL. You need great players to win. It doesn't matter how good your staff is. The Giants are a very bad football team. The offensive line is mostly made up of guys who probably would not be starting on better teams, our QB is wildly inconsistent and is a walking turnover, our receivers are not catching balls they should and our defense gives up 3rd and 15 like it's 3rd and inches. This is a perfect storm of shit from top to bottom. The Giants simply do not have enough good players on this team to compete. You can bring in any coach you want, but without a significant upgrade in talent and an identity, this team will remain a bottom feeder. There are so many holes on the roster that it's not going to be fixed any time soon, and instead of realizing this and really building for the future, we've tried to patch gaping wounds with bandaids, setting us back even further.

Regardless of whether or not Eli is going to play out his contract, the Giants need to start thinking about a replacement. We need significant talent upgrades on the offensive line and we need them ASAP. The secondary is decent, but Rolle is getting old and Stevie Brown does not look to be the same player (albeit he is only 2 games back). Our linebackers are absolutely TERRIBLE. Beason is a quality player but is getting older and has too many health issues. This franchise needs a full rebuild. We've drafted two lineman in the top rounds of the draft the last two seasons and we need a few more. The Giants need to decide what kind of team they want to be. Do they want to be a finesse team that throws it down the field? Or do they want to be a powerful, physical team that runs you over and feeds off play action? On defense, we need an entirely new attitude. Start by instilling a mindset of dictating to the offense instead of sitting back and attempting to react.

It's going to be a long rebuilding process, but hopefully ownership makes some rational decisions going forward and does what is best for our beloved franchise. Being a fan of over 30 years, I've been through the good, great and bad. The 2 super bowls won by the current regime were worth it to me, regardless of the frustrations we are going through now. Coughlin and Eli Manning have solidified themselves as all time great members of this franchise. However, all good things must come to an end at some point and it's time to rebuild for a shot at another championship caliber team.
I do not want Cowher
ligmen : 9/15/2014 3:15 pm : link
It would be nice for the Giants to once have a coach who's staff considers things outside of a shotgun draw as a trick play.

Neither was Ray Rice nitwit. Nor was Adrian Petersen. But I don't want either of them. And I also don't see Winston as a top flight NFL QB

I do not see TC going anywhere, nor our OC nor or QB until the end of 2015.

If they shit the bed for 2 years ( no playoffs ) then its time to start over IMO.

But this year ? I think we are in year 1 of a 3-4 year rebuild in my opinion.

The one thing that happens if we go 3-13, we get a QB in the draft ;)

Yes, in fact I would have fired Reese last year, and at this point, I would fire TC and Fewell now, and let Mac be interim, and find a DC. Anything is better than Fewells TERRIBLE game plans, and lack of in game adjustments.
TC will go on his sheild

and stubborn Franchise will allow him to do it.
How many times has he done stupid clock mgmt, and it bites us in the a$$ then the writers and fans blame the players?

Those 2 gut runs for 0 yards at the 10 min mark, then calling a timeout at 4:32 are ALL TC. Thats what he does that irks me, can not manage the game, at all. That 2nd and 9 at 10:10, when he handed off, both me and father looked at each other and said "he just did it again, a double digit loss is coming". Our football crew we watch every game with nodded and agreed.

We got TC'd, again.
