With Thurmond out, where do Giants turn? Little experience

Connor_Hughes : 9/15/2014 2:56 pm
There's little experience on the Giants roster at the nickel cornerback position:

I would kick the tiers on T2

As a stop gap measure for the rest of the season hope they look into Terrell Thomas who was cut recently by Seattle...obviously not the same player as a few years ago following 2 devastating ACL surgeries...but he played well last year...and is one year removed from his latest surgery...so his knee is probably stronger...might be worth kicking the tiers...
McBride

If we're going to go kick around some tires
cjd2404 : 9/15/2014 3:17 pm : link
Champ Bailey
I'd give Bowman first crack
JonC : 9/15/2014 3:18 pm : link
otherwise, it's probably Hosley unless they revert to Rolle, which would likely be a quick choice made by PF.
Corey Webster???

Sorry Typo Tires

Apple autocorrect...LOL
I'd

be surprised if they bring back T2 or Webster. In the short run, I think it will be McBride. But as to who takes Thurmond's place once he goes on IR, I think it will be Jackson.
Charles James?
deboGIANTS : 9/15/2014 3:27 pm : link
T2 and CW if things get desperate
I

Would take CW over T2. Depending on, who can get off the couch, the fastest.
Charles James

Aaron Ross?
I thought
JOMO25 : 9/15/2014 3:57 pm : link
Chandler Fenner impressed in pre-season. I don't know if he is an outside or slot guy.
McBride to the slot
DavidinBMNY : 9/15/2014 4:10 pm : link
Bowman as primary backup outside

Regarding the roster move some flexibility based on overall needs have to be considered. This puts Hosley somewhat in the running to return to the team.
Ban worthy post

Does Champ Bailey
halfback20 : 9/15/2014 4:24 pm : link
even have anything left?

Why not Charles James?
yeah,
pjcas18 : 9/15/2014 4:38 pm : link
great idea sign Corey Webster to ride a bike.

I'd go with who they have. Bowman, Hosley when he's back, McBride, even possibly Jackson or fenner off the PS.

can't move Rolle, just don't have the safety depth.

seems like Hosley is best suited there

Oh, they can. They can, and they might!
Walter Thurmond IV?
trueblueinpw : 9/15/2014 7:28 pm : link
Is he ready?
Went over this
RetroJint : 9/15/2014 7:57 pm : link
In the summer. Holsley is the next bet slot cover. But its going to be Rolle with Brown & now Demps at safety. And that is going to hurt.
hope it's not Hosley....
Simms11 : 9/15/2014 10:04 pm : link
he was horrendous this summer. Anytime the other team passed in his direction it was a completion. Defense that has been very average is definitely weaker without Beason and Thurmond.
....
SanFranGiantsFan : 9/16/2014 6:20 am : link
Bowman would be who I'd go with.

And God no to Hosley.
why is it
fkap : 9/16/2014 7:14 am : link
other teams have a mantra of 'next man up', while we seem to have the mantra of 'who's sitting on the couch that we can wake up and sign?' seemingly regardless of the position.
This is the position Hosley was drafted to play.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/16/2014 8:40 am : link
It says volumes that they spent millions on a vet so they could keep Hosley off the field. But if he's anything, he's a nickel corner.

FWIW, Hosley hasn't been much worse than Corey Webster was his first two years. He seems to make a lot of the same mistakes Webster did. Whether that stuff is coachable, I have no idea. To this naive fan, Hosley appears to just flat-out suck. It's weird to see him look so utterly lost; he certainly had a lot of support in the draftnik community (the Walter Football profile below is typical), and I think Greg on LI was only BBIer who really hated the pick.
Charlie Campbell on Hosley in 2012. - ( New Window )
Hosely
Percy : 9/16/2014 9:28 am : link
For all his past bad play (and it has been pretty bad), looks like he will be immediately available and reinstated this week, like Herman, as a result of the drug rule change.
slot corner is the only thing he can play
Greg from LI : 9/16/2014 9:32 am : link
And he sucks there, too, although not as much as he sucks on the outside.
Have Hosley wear
mrvax : 9/16/2014 9:53 am : link
Thurmond's jersey and hope no one notices.
I would put McBride there
Matt M. : 9/16/2014 12:27 pm : link
with Bowman as a possibility. What I would NOT do is move Rolle to the slot. This was mentioned as a possibility, but that killed his effectiveness for a couple of years. We need him playing a true S position.
