Can JPP become the next Strahan ?

Manny in CA : 9/15/2014 10:10 pm
My son & I were just discussing this topic a few minutes ago. We both agreed that it's very possible (and very good for the team); if he was just given a chance to go to the left side.

JPP has a lot of Strahan in him - an excellent run stopper besides being a very good pass rusher. I think Moore is a more natural speed rusher from the left side. Having JPP in your face all day is no fun.

Kiwi is the super "handy man" at DE, but should not be starting, I don't think.
A lot to ask

I'm hoping he becomes JPP again
People forget early part of Strahan's career

He wasn't really given the chance with Reeves. When Fassel became HC, he had Fox coach up the young players on the team. Guys like Strahan and Armstead really benefited from the coaching change. Strahan always talk about Fox's input on his development.

gap, plus he's too heavy. Strahan was playing at like 250 at the end of his career, and his technique allowed him success doing it.

JPP would be tossed around at that weight.

JPP has been great against the run
Rudy57 : 9/15/2014 10:24 pm : link
but he has been pretty average against the pass. He doesnt seem to attack quick enough, he seems to come slow off the ball to see what the play is and then go in the pass rush. This has set him up well to defend the run but his pass rush has suffered.

Can he be the next Strahan? possibly but I think he still has a lot to learn and no one to really teach him. I dont know if he is a student of the game, but Strahan was and that was part of the reason he was great. He studied the opposition and studied what made other pass rushers successful from what he said at the hall of fame.

JPP was a very raw talent coming in and from what I see, he doesnt mix up his moves enough. On passing downs I see JPP being handled 1 on 1 a lot so maybe he has not regained his explosion back from his injuries. I would like to see the Giants move him around and give him other opportunities but that would take creativity from the DC.
By handy man

Not unless he stays healthy and consistently beats double teams.

Doesn't have the work ethic Strahan had.
Nor the IQ

.
But Mason, it was Reeves (Nolan) who switched him to LDE

Reeves-Young combo was the problem. Reeves wasn't a bad coach.
maybe if he switches sides.

Like many here have suggested.

switch just as Fox had Mike do with Bratske. Love to see it.
Strahan played at 280 ...
Manny in CA : 9/15/2014 11:09 pm : link
Or thereabouts, most of his career (especially when he was having his monumental confrontations with big men Jon Runyan & Eric Wiliams). It was only at the end that he was 250-255, he did so because he couldn't be as fast as he wanted to be and sustain when he was older.

I think JPP can be a lot more useful on the left because he can really disrupt the thing that most teams want to do on 1st & second downs - run.

Moore reminds me of a young Osi or Robert Mathis, pure speed to the QB.

Come to think of it, that's when Strahan was most effective - when Osi was at his best.

Is your son still there ?

That IS big, knocking off Troy !

A lot of good players that have come put of there. In my mind, I still think of them as ACC (before they became a university).

But my favorite player of all time that came out of there is the NFL player with the most colorful name of ALL TIME - Vitamin T. Smith
