Watching the game tonight it is clear that Indianapolis has no pass rush at all. While trades in the NFL are rare due to the salary cap, and in-season trades are rarer still, I see a player on our roster ripe for a move that would benefit both parties - Robert Ayers.
We would make the move from a position of strength, and get Moore the much needed increase in playing time. Further, if the front office wanted to pad the veteran depth at the position after they need only give Israel Idonije a call to come back. Cap considerations are minimal, as Ayers is on a low salary two year deal.
From there it follows, who to target in return that is both cap feasible (ideally an expiring contract for low dollars) and a useful addition? Connor outlined earlier today the dire situation at nickel CB with the loss of Walter Thurmond (
link), and Darius Butler fits that bill to a T. He's an experienced nickel corner (6th year pro, former Patriots 2nd round pick) who could step into that role right away, with a tradeable contract that is up at the end of the year. Crazy idea or something worth looking into? That I'll leave to the rest of you.
Should we wait until we are 0-6 again?
Better than what? Throwing around a trade idea that doesn't involve Eli Manning or something else ridiculous.
The OP in no way deserves "You're better than this".
BTW I am pissed about that terrible Eagles victory, so if I seem ornery, I am.
Personally, I'd rather trade for draft picks if there's any chance we could get a decent one.
Bowman is big and fast and can cover - put him in there
The fact that Robert Ayers is one of our best pass rushers is a big part of the defense's problems. Guy works hard and never quits on a play, but he just doesn't generate the kind of quick heat on a QB that we so desperately need.
