Looking at the remaining schedule

giantgiantfan : 9/16/2014 12:26 am
Who on this list do you see the Giants beating? If the Giants can't beat an overall average Texans team @ home this week I see a downward spiral coming where the Giants can maybe muster 2 wins out of the NFC East and then maybe wins against Jax, Ten, and St Louis. I think a loss this weekend spirals this team down a road of 2 - 5 win season.

3 Houston Texans
4 @ Washington Redskins
5 Atlanta Falcons
6 @ Philadelphia Eagles
7 @ Dallas Cowboys
8 Bye Week
9 Indianapolis Colts
10 @ Seattle Seahawks
11 San Francisco 49ers
12 Dallas Cowboys
13 @ Jacksonville Jaguars
14 @ Tennessee Titans
15 Washington Redskins
16 @ St. Louis Rams
17 Philadelphia Eagles
at best
SHO'NUFF : 9/16/2014 12:32 am : link
I see them going 9-7 overall...we can go 4-1 in the next 5 games if we remove head from ass.
It looks bleak right now, no doubt.
bceagle05 : 9/16/2014 12:38 am : link
Hard to find wins. I'd rather re-visit this after the Skins game next Thursday. There were definitely signs of life this past Sunday.
I think they'll

I think the exact opposite. I think they beat Houston and lose to Washington and Atlanta. That's how hard this Giants team is to figure out.
Like to think positive

for a change, and project a five game wining streak right up to the bye. All the games are winnable if the upward trend we saw each game continues. Both the offense and defense have improved and if it continues without the bad breaks and mistakes, no reason it cannot happen.
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 9/16/2014 6:16 am : link
I think we'll beat Houston, but I wouldn't bet the ranch.
Here's how I see it
blueblood'11 : 9/16/2014 6:34 am : link
I see them splitting in the division with the Cowboys and the Redskins. I see Philly beating them twice. That's four more losses right there totaling six. I see them losing to Seattle and the Colts. That's eight right there. I can't see them beating the Niners either. That makes nine. As for the rest of the teams at the Titans and at the Rams. Given that they are now a lousy road team they may win one of those. So that would total ten loses. If they don't, that makes eleven.

I can't wait to see what Mara's next move is going to be. Who will be the Giants next coach. I really believe this will be it for Tom. It's the same song and dance every year. The Giants need a face lift.

9-7
Gmen in 2012 : 9/16/2014 7:26 am : link
Lol where the hell do you see 9 wins from. Maybe if we can get lucky like last year and play some back up Qbs for 4 weeks in a row , wait didn't we play one Sunday and still lost.. I just don't see this team winning more then 5 games
I can see 9-7
Jon from PA : 9/16/2014 7:30 am : link
The offense is improving and the the turnovers won't happen every game.
.....
BrettNYG10 : 9/16/2014 7:34 am : link
We'll improve as the season goes on, but even if we get much better by week eight, we run into three high quality teams after the bye.

I'd be surprised if we hit six wins.
This will sum it up
blueblood'11 : 9/16/2014 8:04 am : link
Back in Super Bowl 21 the highlight film the NFL did " Land of the Giants" one of the enduring lines in that film was the Denver Broncos went into the Super Bowl hoping they would win. The New York Giants went in knowing they would win.

That's this team the past few years. Hoping and not knowing. And that appears to be even more the case this year. Those type of teams lose the way this team has become accustomed to losing. They are so worried about fucking up that that's what they wind up doing. Until they get past that and even if and when they do it will probably be too late.
The game in Seattle
tomjgiant : 9/16/2014 8:09 am : link
I put down as a loss ,all others we have a chance.
We'll
Jerry in DC : 9/16/2014 8:09 am : link
win a few games where we're underdogs - happens to pretty much every team every year even if they're bad. Think Lions game last year.

We're bad, but not so bad that we can't stay in some games, capitalize on some breaks, take advantage of teams that are injured or just didn't show up.

We won't be favored too often though. I could see the possibility of getting to 6 wins, although 4 or 5 seems more likely at this point.
There's a promising stretch week 13 - 16
Dave in PA : 9/16/2014 8:27 am : link
That's so far off though that it's useless trying to predict outcomes. All the other teams on our schedule are probably doing the same thing and I guarantee none of them are counting their Giants matchup as a loss.
My prediction
Dave in PA : 9/16/2014 8:28 am : link
5-11

Atlanta has a terrible defense. This is what we heard every time the Giants faced a terrible defense last year. I am still, unfortunately, a firm believer that this team and offense will "get going" by lighting up the scoreboard against a poor defense. For the Houston game, I believe it will be the same recipe as it was for last game. The Giants will fall behind, jump ahead, and find a way to lose. At the beginning of the season I had the Giants going 8-8. I think I set the bar way to high. RSC.
Here is where I'm optimistic
Bramton1 : 9/16/2014 9:24 am : link
The offense had life in it on Sunday that I didn't see at all last season.

In 2013, I hoped the offense could drive the ball. When they did, I was pleasantly surprised. Down 22-14 in Sunday, I knew the offense had at least one more drive in them (and they did; thanks, Jennings).

I feel like one thing on Sunday will determine if we look like we did against Detroit or Arizona. How much is JJ Watt able to run free?
this was a three to four win team ast season
Greg from LI : 9/16/2014 9:25 am : link
That happened to luck into a few extra wins by virtue of facing some awful backup QBs.

They're worse this year. I'd be shocked if they win 4 games.
Who knows.
AnnapolisMike : 9/16/2014 9:30 am : link
There is not one game on the schedule save for the @Seattle game that they can's win. So far this season...like last season the story is about turnovers and ball security. This team will not win many games if they keep losing the turnover battle.

Baby steps
micky : 9/16/2014 9:30 am : link
they need to just focus on putting all 3 phases together. When was the last time that happened? When they can do that then maybe a win will come. But, right now that is utmost importance right now than anything else. They have a lot of issues, but if they can accomplish that beginning vs Houston it would be great.
i do'nt bother looking at the schedule anymore
UConn4523 : 9/16/2014 9:31 am : link
rosters change so much week to week with the mass amounts of injuries. We can beat any team in the league outside of a handful (Seattle, Denver, etc), IMO.

Will we? Probably not, but its entirely possible on any given week.
They played two games in 2014
Route 9 in LEH : 9/16/2014 9:35 am : link
During the 0-6 start they allowed:

36, 41, 38, 31, 36, 27 (when our "savior" Beason made it to New York.

....

Thanks to 3-4 interceptions PER game

I can't imagine the Giants getting off to THAT bad of a start this year, but yeah it will probably balance out to 5 wins. Ha. Hey, Eli only has it down to 2 a game! I guess that's something to be perky about.

Jacksonville is their best shot and that is NOT a given. With the Cowboys and Redskins winning this past Sunday I see us going 0-6 in the division unless the Eagles have NOTHING to play for in the final game of the season.

If they generate a lot of pressure on Foles the Giants can win.

How are they 'worse' than last year?
Overseer : 9/16/2014 11:38 am : link
first off all I'm not even sure it's possible to be clearly worse than the 2013 Giants. Second, despite the many negatives this year, it's still a young team in a new system and they did show some progress on Sunday.

0-10 start is no chance. Division games will be close and they'll steal a couple here & there. And that's if they don't improve at all.

1-15 no way as well. 7 teams have finished that poorly since 1990. That's 1/4 century. I won't argue with a possible 4-7 win team if shit doesn't improve but there is a marked difference between bad and historically bad.
I think 0-10 is more likely
MarshallOnMontana : 9/16/2014 11:45 am : link
Than 4-6, thats a tough slate through the sf game.

I think theyll probably be 1-9 or 2-8, barring more injury breaks at quarterback

its bad right now. So bad that people see progress in a home loss to drew stanton and the injury depleted cards. Thats where we are.

The Cardinals are a mess right now, and the Giants couldn't beat them at home. That's a really bad omen for the rest of the season.

The Giants have morphed into UVA right before my eyes. They find new ways to lose every week.
I think by the time
Patrick77 : 9/16/2014 12:04 pm : link
the Giants get a chance to play the lowly Jaguars the Jaguars might be improved enough to win. The Giants might be improved enough to not drop every pass and blow special teams. Maybe they will even score 21 points on offense. They are pretty consistent right now at getting 14, so there is that. Consistency is good, right?

The last part of this is absolutely mind boggling to me. If we made progress this week, then we really fucking suck to begin with, because we lost to a backup QB on a team coming east on a short week that rarely ever plays well on the East coast. Add in that they were depleted by injuries on defense and I really can't take even one positive out of that game. If the Giants had any type of pulse, they win that game. If the Cardinals run that same team out there the rest of the year they will win 5 games max.
The defense is starting to lose key players.....
Doomster : 9/16/2014 12:08 pm : link
The offense is still a work in progress.....

I can see us maybe 2-5 by the bye....and then losing the next three games, to 2-8.....

Then possibly going 3-3......5-11....

However, if we see progress in this offense by the end of the season, and if we see OBj some how get on the field and have an impact, that 5-11 record will actually be better than the 7-9 record of last year, which was an illusion created by playing against backups.....if we can be competitive in those last 6 games, there's some hope for next year......there wasn't any hope after last year.....
Totally agree it's bad
Overseer : 9/16/2014 12:11 pm : link
no way to spin that. But this is not a 1-15 team, even with zero improvement. Although absolutely warranted to a degree, when it begets assertions of "this team will win 1 game all year", the gloom is excessive.

Also you can knock Drew Stanton the "name". But he played well on Sunday. No one is going to him as a starting QB but he's not some disaster back up like Painter or someone and he made good throws.
Also it's understandable to link
Overseer : 9/16/2014 12:19 pm : link
2013 with this season since many of the same problems endure. The hangover is real. But it is a separate season and the Giants are 0-2, not 7-11.

Eli & Donnell alone should be mildly encouraging for fans. Hankins, too.
waste of time to look past the new 5 games
CGiants07 : 9/16/2014 12:25 pm : link
the rest arwe too far out and we don't know what either team will look like then. the next 5 have no were definitely losing that one games
This reminds me of Week 3 against Washington in the SB year
Matt M. : 9/16/2014 12:29 pm : link
This is the same type of game in the same situation.
There are really only 3 games on the schedule where
Matt M. : 9/16/2014 12:33 pm : link
I think we are completely outclassed. Those are the 3 consecutive weeks after the Bye (Indy, Seattle, SF). The rest of our schedule, in my opinion, is against teams fairly even with us or who we should beat. Even in those 3 weeks, I can see it going anywhere from 3 blowouts to winning a game or two. If we steal one of those, that leaves 11 other games. I think we are capable of winning 8 or 9 of those. That said, I am not expecting anything.
If we're looking at the remaining schedule
sjnyfan : 9/16/2014 12:33 pm : link
then the Giants have to be 5-5 after they're three game gauntlet out of the bye with Indy, Seattle and San Fran if they want a shot at the playoffs.

Optimistic for some here but we're only going into week 3. We'll see what happens.
.....
Micko : 9/16/2014 12:34 pm : link
3-13

Believe it and it will happen!
Giants are a "possible win" on everyone else's schedule too
rsjem1979 : 9/16/2014 12:45 pm : link
Seattle already has the "W" in permanent marker on theirs.

I came into this season expecting 5-11 or 6-10
MarshallOnMontana : 9/16/2014 12:53 pm : link
But baked into that was a very low opinion of dallas and washington. I know its only 2 weeks, but theyve both looked much better defensively than I ever expected. Both are likely still mediocre defensively but i dont know that either will be quite as awful as expected. Given they make up 25% of our schedule, im downgrading us to 3 to 4 win expectations and believe we are clearly the divisions worst team

now watch cousins get hurt and we will get whoever the hell is left in washington twice this year. That would be so typical of recent history.
The middle of the schedule is the worst
illmatic : 9/16/2014 12:56 pm : link
if they can get to the Jacksonville game with a .500 record or better, things will be looking pretty good.
