John Beason - always hurt these last 3 years.
G. Schwartz - average camp, out 1/2 season, got big $$
W. Thurmond - injures pec game 2, we will miss him.
W. Demps - can't start at FS over Brown, fumbles kO
Yes, it is early but the early returns on these signings are poor.
if he drafted better, he wouldn't have had to fix the gaping holes in the roster with these Free Agents.
If the guys he drafted wouldn't lose their careers unnaturally early to injury, he wouldn't have to draft to replace them and try to improve the team at the same time.

What LB did he draft that we lost to injury? Still waiting.....

Well Goff was one. But the more pertinent question is what LB did he draft that was any good. Other than Goff and Kennard, these are the LBs that he's drafted:
Schwartz - Missed all of 2011. Started only 7 games in last three years
Thurmond - Missed 24 games in 2011 and 2012 (and blew out his ACL senior year of college)
And also, there's Walton and McClain, currently healthy but who also have missed serious time.
Walton - Missed 28 games in 2012 and 2013
McClain - Missed 9 games in past 2 years (IR'd in 2012 with a spinal contusion).
Some guys are just injury prone, sorry to say. And it's surprising with the injury issues in 2013 that Reese would sign these guys to big money and rely on them as starters. Depth maybe, but how could anyone be surprised when these guys get hurt again?

By definition, any player signed as a free agent either was too pricy for his previous team to afford or has some history of injuries. That "perfect" combination of a free agent player who is good enough to start, without a history of injury, and is affordable doesn't really exist.
Sintim was the only LB drafted earlier than the 4th round. And I still don't get why Reese keeps getting killed for that pick - Sintim was only active for 23 games between his rookie and sophomore year before he shredded up his knee and his career was over.

Because Sintim was universally noted as a 3-4, hand in the dirt, pass rushing LB, not a 4-3, drop in coverage LB.
You guys are looking at the defensive structure wrong.
You're assuming that because we were playing more traditionally with the 3 LB's on the field at any given time, that we will continue that. I would argue that the strength of this D now once again comes from the big nickel formation. I think we see more of Berhe and Demps inside the box.
He was indeed a 3-4 pass rushing LB, but he usually played in an upright stance a la LT. He did get in a three point stance occasionally, but only for a handful of snaps.
With lb...in draft or terminate contract
after ir...hes finished....panthers knew it
we need to move fast..also w jj and
thurman..where are replacements. ..
try outs must be today

Thanks for the correction Greg. But he clearly was not a fit for the Defense the Giants were running.

Because he was a 2nd round 3-4 LB. He was out of position. And sucked for the two years he was here. Not average. Horrid. Then he got hurt. And since Reese passed on scrubs like McCoy and Max Unger for a guy who had no spot on the Giants he gets shit. The 2nd round was loaded.
how this defense can ever be as effective as we would all have hoped for ...at least not without its leader in the middle.
It's just so disappointing too in that the front office continues to patchwork together two critical positions on the defense (LB)and offense (OL). It's clear they believe they can get away with lower level draft picks and/or picking up guys off the scrapheap.
Suddenly, what looked like the best LB corp that we've had in a while, is now an incredible weakness. McClain is brutal, JDub has been the greatest disappointment and Herzlich is just not stout and athletic enough to play at this level.
I hope to God Beason and Kennard can come back soon and contribute.
Reese signs ends up injured very shortly after they get the golden parachute and are not available to practice and/or play. Is this a pattern or what ?

He sucked before he injured his knee.....he was slow to react, and was in no way a linebacker....he was too small/slow to be an edge rusher....

We could see them on the field shortly.
Not any time soon.
Who were our primary adds?
Beason - gone
Thurmond - gone
Beckham - gone
Schwartz - gone
Hey at least drc's on the field. We needed all these guys 2 b impact players
Makes you wonder when Beatty will F up his leg again.

Oh well, we will see.
agree. Reese has 'splainin' to do.
Amen

LB should be
Paysinger-McClain-Williams with Herzlich in situational subpackages. Hopefully Kennard gets healthy real, real fast.

Hyperbole! He's only 75, and I'm sure he knows all about the "MRI Machine."
