That’s right, the city of Hartford will be home to a charter franchise of the North American Football League whose inaugural season will kick off in the spring of 2015. I know what you’re thinking, ‘Another pro football league that isn’t the NFL? Remember the UFL?’ Yeah, the Hartford Colonials didn’t really work out, only lasting a season with the United Football League, but that doesn’t matter to NAFL founder Chris White. Plus, the NAFL won’t compete with the NFL directly. The NAFL will play a spring/summer schedule to avoid competition with the big boys, the NCAA’s, and high school’s fall schedules. The NAFL will sign players that have been cut by the NFL but will not market itself as a development outfit for the NFL. |
Except, most of the nation I believe are comprised of casual fans..I doubt they give a fluck about the state of the game that us diehards are becoming extremely disenchanted with, imv
The problem I see with any potential league is it would be rife with players jumping ship constantly to try to get onto an NFL, CFL, or Arena league team. The turnover, consistency, and play in general would likely be horrendous to start with. The play IMO would only improve once the players in the league became such lower tier talent-wise that they would never even be invited to an another training camp where the potential to make more money is possible.
It's something I often think of when watching the CFL, that likely the best and/or highest paid players in Arena or CFL would give anything just to be paid and practice as an NFL practice squad player.
This...and target 18-22 year old players that don't want to deal with NCAA bullshit.
Or get a TV contract first...
Just about every league tries this and it doesn't work. If they want decent talent, the NFL will have to be invested: start a real development league that plays in parallel with the NFL season. Guys can't play a full season of minor league football and then be expected to play meaningful snaps for an entire NFL season right after that.

After the failure of World League (NFLE). why the hell would the NFL invest in a developmental league when they already have a free one via CFB?
Silly.

Never said they would. It'd a huge money loser. But that's the only way it will ever "work."
