DE James Davidson signed to the practice squad

The_Taxman : 9/16/2014 6:35 pm
RT @caplannfl: Giants are going to sign UDFA DE James Davidson to their practice squad. He was with the #Bengals in training camp.

I saw him play a few times for UTEP. Had a few sacks against Johnny Football. Small for a DE but ran a 4.57 forty and can get to the QB. I think he's only about 240 LBs. He may translate to an OLB with us.

that size is playing DE in the NFL. He'll have to convert to LB.

The kid has some impressive measurables, most notably speed. He could be a nice rotational DE/OLB in pass rush situations. See how he develops on huge PS.

AST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants have signed linebacker James Davidson to their practice squad.

Davidson, 6-3 and 242 pounds, was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie free agent from Texas-El Paso on May 12. He was waived on Aug. 26. Davidson played in 45 games with 14 starts at UTEP and totaled 111 tackles and 8.5 sacks.

Giants are slow

They need speed everywhere including off the edge. Seattle gets those tweeners on the field during third & longs Everybody including Coach bitches about the conversions. Well do something about it. Same thing with Cunningham the TE who Coughlin says does a 4.45. Hey? That's faster than the wide receivers. Tom is near the end. He is a great teacher. Hit on a couple of these guys. How about Davidson as a gunner, which is what Dexter Manley did early in his career with the Skins. This guy ran down Johnny Football? Works for me.
what ever happened to Allen Bradford?

is he back in Seattle? He never saw the field here, but was thought to be had-nosed thumper. Why did we ever let him go?

He's on the Browns' Practice Squad. We can have him if we want him
some cover skills?

Interestingly enough, Davidson was ranked among the top 20 defensive backs in the state of Texas in high school. Perhaps it's that athleticism that will gives him an edge among other late round prospects.

So he can play DE, LB and DB?

Sounds like he has good hands

but fights the urge to body-catch. 6' 4" 4.39 at his pro day. Smaller hands for his size. And great, great kid.
