Rasp, good job with the threads all year.
Like to see Pineda bean longoria for payback to Hensley getting hit.
yeah brutal way to go out
RasputinPrime : 9/16/2014 6:58 pm : link
these last weeks have been the pits. Hopefully we can field a team interesting enough to get some thread discussions going next season.

For now, i'll settle for some Big Mike payback.
Rays' Jeter tribute

on now.
Zim's wife out there to present to Jeter
RasputinPrime : 9/16/2014 7:12 pm : link
very nice. However longwinded a thank you this may be for some, I appreciate the show of support for a player who has entertained and inspired for 20 years. It's always nice to see that there are some people being so honored.

Anyone willing to guess how many hits he has left in that bat?
they should be playing the young players
sinctybldh : 9/16/2014 7:26 pm : link
to see what they have going forward. i see no reason to trot out players like ryan, mccann, etc. play pirela, ,murphy, richardson, etc.
most of the young players
RasputinPrime : 9/16/2014 7:50 pm : link
aren't even on the 40 right now. I'm just putting my feet up and enjoying the last few games Jeter has in the tank. I'd like to see Pineda, Ellsbury and Murphy end strong.
Jeter with a sacrifice bunt

wonders never cease.
McCann really doesn't
RasputinPrime : 9/16/2014 8:10 pm : link
have a good approach at the plate. Amazing overpay.
His approach at the plate is not bad
PetesHereNow : 9/16/2014 8:22 pm : link
He gets fastballs to hit, most times, he just is popping them up. Probably tired from all the catching. I think he'll be better next year now that he knows the league and what to expect.
I don't think McCann was that bad this year
djm : 9/16/2014 8:30 pm : link
He did a good job with the pitchers and at least provided some pop.

Beltran, tex, nothing from soriano or second base, and little to nothing out of the DH. Took too long to find a halfway decent 3B... That's what cooked us. McCann needed to hit more but at least he was good behind the plate. Beltran was dreadful.
Teix's wrist has been hurting him for a few days...
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 8:45 pm : link
doesn't explain the month plus of suckitude that preceded it, but there's that.

We got one run, Pineda is going to need to make it stand up.
btw, that Montero/Pineda trade
PetesHereNow : 9/16/2014 8:50 pm : link
looks like Cash wins if Pineda can stay healthy.
Pineda's defense is surrendering more runs...
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 9:03 pm : link
than his arm.
I've seen this movie before
PetesHereNow : 9/16/2014 9:05 pm : link
Now, we won't score another run for four innings, and lose 2-1 late.
Can someone describe this bench-clearing incident for me
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 10:44 pm : link
Twitter is all over the place
Refsnyder and Kyle Roller should be the starting 2B and 1B...
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 10:55 pm : link
the rest of the way. Don't trot out Teix with a hurt wrist or Drew or Ryan, give those two 30-40 big-league ABs and see how they handle it. They'll probably struggle but at least you have a sense on what if anything you've got in them.
Not Refsnyder...
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 10:55 pm : link
Pirela. Sorry.
Jeter was hit in the top of the 8th
jpkmets : 9/16/2014 10:55 pm : link
Pitch ran inside hard, hit him on the forearm, both benches were warned, Girardi was pissed and got run -- bottom 8, Phelps came way inside (but did not hit) Kiermayer -- and both benches emptied and there was some heated milling about.

I wasn't paying super-close attention, but did watch the whole thing. Hope that helps.
Yankees announcers
jpkmets : 9/16/2014 10:57 pm : link
did not feel as though Geltz was throwing at Jeter. Girardi, they speculated, was just very tired of all his batters getting plunked.
I appreciate it..
Dunedin81 : 9/16/2014 10:58 pm : link
Rays have hit 5 Yankees this year. I understand he wasn't trying to hit Jeter, but if you play with fire don't get upset when Longo gets a beanball in his behind or even just a guy gets the brushback treatment.
Definitely can see why
jpkmets : 9/16/2014 11:00 pm : link
the Yankees are fed up with the Rays for hitting that many batters for sure.

They just showed Headley staring daggers at the Rays as they had their post-game handshake line.

Should be an interesting finale tomorrow evening.
I'd love to see them retaliate
NYerInMA : 9/16/2014 11:04 pm : link
By scoring some runs, but we all know that won't happen.
...
feelflows : 9/17/2014 12:23 am : link
The concept that a catcher who is already 30 will improve with age in the post steroids era is seriously flawed and based on wishful thinking.
McCann will be better next year.

loved Joe chewing out
RasputinPrime : 9/17/2014 12:47 am : link
the idiot pitcher who plunked Jeter up 6-1. Ridiculous that the ump warned both sides. These clowns need to wake the fuck up and stay the hell out of the game. Do you damn job and go get your shine box.
Cashman wins the Pineda / Montero trade?
Boo57 : 9/17/2014 4:41 am : link
Montero may be a bust but Pineda is an injury prone moron who disgraces the Yankees uniform. How in the world does Cashman or Girardi allow that doofus to wear his hat cockeyed and have his jersey unbuttoned so that his bling shows?

Cashman is a jerk! He's destroyed the great farm system that Michael had built. We're lucky if we develop one decent player every 5 years. Cashman builds a team by signing over the hill FAs and trading for marginal players at the deadline.

Until Cashman is gone, the Yankees will never again sniff a pennant!
McCann was literally a worthless player on the road this season.
Shockeyisthebest80 : 9/17/2014 4:56 am : link
Too bad they play half of their games away from home.

Always nice to see informed contributions to Yankee threads. Because missing the postseason once in a decade and a half wasn't an accomplishment in its own right.
I think we can all be pretty optimistic about PIneda for next season
RasputinPrime : 9/17/2014 12:54 pm : link
he seems to be less hittable than you'd expect with the stuff he has shown.

Holy crap, haha. "Cashman is a jerk!" And Pineda is a disgrace because his hat is "cockeyed".

I'm really hoping that you're simply older than dirt, therefore grumpy as shit and senile. But maybe you're not, and that would be worse...
Cashman
Boo57 : 9/17/2014 8:12 pm : link
About the only thing he can hang his hat on is that he got the better of the Montero trade.

Tell me, how good of a job has he done in maintaining the farm system that Michael built? What farmhands of any consequence has he promoted in the past ten years outside of Betances and Gardner? Fact is, he's destroyed and decimated the farm system. Rarely does he make a good trade that works long term. His yearly schtick is to sign 30+ year old FAs to long term deals that put them into their 40s at contract's end. And to trade for marginal vets, i.e. Capuano, McCarthy, Headley, at the trading deadline only to find out next season why their original teams were willing to dump them.

Cashman's star has burned out! There is not enough talent left from the previous regime's farm system, not enough good, younger FAs or George Steinbrenner's bottomless wallet to bail out Cashman's inadequacies!
