PFF stats and ratings week 2

And for the record, Kiwi's snaps are practically no different than last year's 0 - 2 start.

It's nearly the exactly same percent.

Someone asked in a thread yesterday if JPP could become Strahan, it seems like he's becoming like Tuck - stout against the run, inconsistent rushing the passer.

Ayers should be starting over Kiwanuka

Richburg should be at center but we're too short handed at guard.
Nice to see Pugh

play well. I was critical week 1 of him, but it was nice to see him have a really good game.
Good to see Bromley
pjcas18 : 9/16/2014 7:17 pm : link
get some plays.

If Beckham and Kennard can get on the field the silver lining is all the rookies are getting valuable experience to build off.

Look at Pugh, Hankins, Moore a little bit, etc. Sucks about taylor, but he seemed to benefit from his rookie year too.

Getting these guys playing time early, will (obviously?) help down the road.
From my limited viewing since I was at the game

I thought Ayers played well as did Moore. JPP just has not developed. It's sad.
I Honestly barely
pjcas18 : 9/16/2014 7:21 pm : link
noticed Moore.

I thought JPP played really well. he made an impact. His Run D is great (IMO), he sheds blocks and makes tackles at the line and chases plays down from behind, and although he was credited with 2 sacks (1.5?) I don't think he's consistent with his pass rush.

I think he tries to bull rush everyone.

I thought Strahan was going to work with him before he got hurt last year. What happened with that? Strahan was a technician.

He has no pass rush moves, but he's still great against the run.

I don't understand this sentiment. Richburg has been just as bad as Walton (if not worse) and has enough to focus on without worrying about making the line calls.

I think it's because center is Richburg's natural position. If Schwartz comes back Schwartz should be RG, and Richburg should be center. Walton needs more recovery time or something. he makes Baas look like bart oates.

JPP had a GREAT game because
Bobby Epps : 9/16/2014 7:38 pm : link
when Kiwi or Moore were in at Left DE, the Cards could single-up on them and double-team JPP.

JPP played most of the game being double-teamed. Let's put Ayers in there to see if he can apply pass rush pressure so as to take some of the double-team off JPP.
The guy from PFF

was really high on Ayers on the big blue kickoff show preview for the Texans (giants.com).
On a former Giants note

Based on PFF ratings they took a dim view of Linval Joseph's performance last week

"Worst Value: Linval Joseph ($6.6M Cap charge; -3.5 PFF grade)- This was a close decision between Joseph and Ahtyba Rubin of the Browns who was slightly better but earns slightly more, but Rubin’s grade hinged more on penalties than performance and Ill always weight performance higher. Joseph has the 7th highest cap hit at the position in 2014 and ranked dead last this week, basically doing nothing as his team was steamrolled by the Patriots."

The pff guy said the loss of Thurmond is huge. He said we don't really have a guy who can play the slot. Hosley (sp?) allowed a perfect passer rating while in the slot, Mcbride was bad there too, and that Thurmond never allowed a td while playing there. DRC played some slot, but it wasn't his forte.
I was really looking forward
pjcas18 : 9/16/2014 9:03 pm : link
to this secondary. F-ing Will Hill and Thurmond injury ruined it for me. That Calvin Johnson long TD most likely doesn't happen with Will Hill.

it would have been the best secondary in my Giants lifetime.

football is cruel sometimes.
Kudos to J. Williams for having a turn around week
Mason : 9/16/2014 9:52 pm : link
Seems like he wasn't even rotated out of the game and stayed consistently positive.
I admit I don't
pjcas18 : 9/16/2014 9:57 pm : link
know the first thing about scouting or play calling, etc.

but I see J-Wil as a 225 pound linebacker who is good in coverage and ok one on one tackling I think he would be a good safety.

My impression is he struggles in run D as a LB because he gets caught up in the wash - he's too small.

he's got the athleticism just looks like a big safety.
shows both tackles playing well......
Simms11 : 9/16/2014 10:27 pm : link
and Walton and Richburg as being worst on line. Interior still issue, but we won't see schwartz for like another 6 weeks. They have to get more stout in the middle or it will be another 0-6 start.

+1 When Schwartz returns must sit JD Walton and move Richburg to Center. He's not ready, but he's a hell of a lot better than Walton, and JR didn't draft the best Center in the Nation to be a Guard while one of the very worst Centers in the NFL continues to play.

Sure, when Schwartz returns thats an option. But he's out at least 6 more weeks and I don't see any of the other options being better than a Richburg-Walton duo.
