watching the game again

It's a shame the Giants lost this game. Offensively there were some great signs. Good pass rush from the line (love the Hankins sack). The Giants lack of execution is killing them, I know the coach haters don't want to hear that. The players have to execute the game plan first, then we can look at the coaches.
Agree

I mean you're on the drive that in all likelihood puts the game away with a TD or at least gives you an excellent chance to win even if you come away with a field goal and a minute later it all goes to shit.

Despite the loss I'm still encouraged by the vast improvement the team showed compared to the Monday night opener. Let's just hope the third time's the charm.
I can't

In fact if they lose another game in going to ask the giants to reimburse me for Gamerewind.

Bad teams find new and exciting ways to lose. A few more of these and it's 2003 again.
You could find encouraging signs in this game but,

if you were still hoping the Giants could perform magic this season and make the playoffs, the loss of Thurmond for the season and the probable loss of Beason for several weeks, if not forever given his injury history, balanced off the good things.

And, if hoping for a playoff spot, a desperately needed Will Hill doesn't return in three weeks because serial weed smokers who get caught aren't moral enough to play for Tom Coughlin and Hill can't be relied on like his replacements can be relied on to suck.
Protect the football.

If we can get through an entire game without turning the football over on Sunday, I feel confident we will win.
It starts with the O-line
buljos : 9/16/2014 11:11 pm : link
and I think they did a better job of pass protection, but they still aren't mauling anybody at the point of attack to enable the running game. Yards per carry the Giants are at the bottom of the League, and that won't promote play action. I still think JD Walton has to sit when Schwartz returns, moving Richburg to Center then sit whichever Guard isn't getting it done. Yes, he needs a season or two before he'll be good, but he can't be worse than Walton who after Sunday was graded out by PFF as the 22nd of 25 starting Centers in the League, and that's actually an improvement over his last full season in 2011 when they rated him the very worst Center in the League. He can't be our starting Center, and certainly Richburg couldn't do any worse. This O-line has to start mauling and driving off the line to establish a running game so Eli can work a defense over.
You're right about the O-line ….
Manny in CA : 9/17/2014 12:19 am : link
But close behind is Perry Fewell who has two first tier starting CBs and is afraid to use them as press corners.

The Cards immediately recognized this can took advantage, making their back-up QB look like an established star. They struck first and we were playing catch-up to an inferior team.

I know, Fewell is all about sitting back in a zone and hope for the turn-over, but when you have two Ferraris at CB and a natural-born ballhawk at safety (Stevie Brown), why not use them correctly.

Remember Superbowl XXXV, the Ravens DARED the Giants to pass, with hard pressing Duane Starks and Chris McCallister, with the old ball-hawk Rod Woodson lurking. And so it came to be, they broke our back

What he said. Has Fewell ever been good besides a few games? I didn't understand the hire at all. The Bill were ranked like 22nd in the NFL when they hired him. Play aggressive press coverage and for the love of god, can we surprise a team w/a blitz once in a while instead of always showing your hand before the snap?
Poor Players
RetroJint : 9/17/2014 6:46 am : link
Miss assignments, commit penalties & lose their individual match-ups. That is what a poor player is. The problem with the eradicate-the-mistakes analysis is that the coaching part of the equation is only 10 maybe 15 %. That includes all coaches. Lombardi, Parcells, Shula, Johnson, whoever. The overall talent level of the roster is improving. But there are still too many guys playing key roles who should not be out there. Plus some of their highest-salaried guys are not earning their money. Lastly on Brown: Tom made the point Monday that he is not back to form. They're waiting on him. The drop off is steep to Brown from what we saw from Hill last year. Players makes plays, schemes and formations.
Hard to watch

knowing they lost the game. I DVR'd the game because I was away for the day. Bottom line is if not for all the turnovers and the ridiculous defensive philosophy of Perry Fewell the Giants win this game. Of course the straw that broke their back in the end was the special teams play.

Stating the obvious here but Tom better get a handle on this quickly or the season wont be worth giving a shit about. To tell you the truth they aren't going anywhere anyway. Then again dare I say most everyone said the same thing in 2007 and 2011.
3rd and 7
crick78 : 9/17/2014 7:19 am : link
DRC was playing off the wr, the cards saw it and ran a slant hoping to pick up the first down. DRC saw it and attacked it not allowing the first down. The DB's can play off and still prevent the quick stuff, problem is the player has to make it happen. DRC had some real nice plays in this game.

As far as the run game, The Giants brand new OL went up against two pretty good DL's the first two weeks. The cards albeit without Dockett were great against he run last year and week 1 of this year, so i have to give some credit to that defense. The run game will improve.

You're absolutely right Andy. And they are a bad team right now.
On the running game
blueblood'11 : 9/17/2014 8:25 am : link
They can't only be productive against fair to middlin type of defensive lines. They have to be able to produce against them all albeit it may not be as productive against the better lines because that's what they do best. If they can't hold their own against the best then they aren't going anywhere. When I say that I'm talking about the tough yards. Short yardage situations. They may not break the long runs but they are getting enough done to move the chains and keep the defenses honest.
You can't

hang that game on coaching. No way.
You can't...
gmenatlarge : 9/17/2014 8:50 am : link
who's coaching that moron Demps, he kept running it out of the end zone not getting to the 20, (he passed it once) and then coughs it up at the worst possible time!
I record every game
NYG007 : 9/17/2014 8:51 am : link
and rewatch them typically during the week, I could not bring myself to rewatch last weeks game. Disgusting and typical under Coughlin Giants epic meltdown.

I will give him Eli, TC and the Team credit, when we go, we win the whole f*cking thing. But when we dont? My lord are were a terrible all around team

My point wasn't that shouldn't do well against good Dls, rather they aren't ready for those Dls yet. That's why I said brand new ol.

The weakest link in the WR lineup is gone, McClain will move to the middle and Rolle is pencilled in a slot.
