So nut the fuck up and get ready for another season.

Rangers are.. fast, soft, deep on D and have Hank. Likely a middling Eastern Conference seed.

Isles are.. young and talented up front, shitty D, upgrade in the net, still the LOLisles. Likely a who gives a shit, they're the Isles seed.

Devils are.. who fuckin knows. They have Lou, will probably win the East. Or be last. Nobody will care, seed..

Hurricanes are.. Have some Staal's. Stole the Whalers. Jints can suck my dick, seed.

Senators are.. Fuck you, Andy. Seed.

Leafs are.. Hi Sheppers! Seed.

Kings are.. Not a Dynasty. Fuck you. seed.

Sabres are.. Buffalo.. Have John Scott.?. Have another shot of crown royal, seed..

Whatever other teams BBI'ers root for, fuck you to.

The rules are;

Don't be a weeping gash on hockey threads..

Stop spamming me with your compromised email while you suck it, fish.

Anybody wanna fuckin go?

Hockey's so close I can smell it. Or, maybe the streets around the Garden just smell like they always do which reminds me of hockey. God I love New York in the fall. Only slightly less so when the Giants are playing like utter shit.

That was a great fucking spring, despite the swift kick to the balls in the Finals. Have no clue how the Rangers will match that run this year, but at least we don't have to watch Richards fumble around on the PP anymore.

Will be curious what Malone brings to the table this season

Always wonder how Cheraponov would've turned out...
BurberryManning : 9/17/2014 8:57 am : link
probably would've thrown him into the MSL deal but he was looking like the top-line sniper that we have seemed to sorely lack.

I'm tentatively excited about these Rangers. The top lines should stay relatively intact with a full year to reap the rewards of MSL and the continued development of CK. The bottom six should have a good amount of depth with a mix of veterans and youth to choose from. If JT Miller finally lives up to his first-round billing it would go a long way towards creating a deep team with a few waves of offense and responsible play in their own end, up front.

Defensively, I do think that losing Stralmoney for Boyle will turn out to be a net negative but I guess I'm excited we have that ever elusive PP QB(??)..if for nothing other then not having to read that its the team's fatal flaw from fans upset that the PP isn't scoring at 40%. Hopefully we can get a full season out of Staal and maybe see Conor Allen and/or McIlrath take the next step forward and grab a spot on the blueline.

I think it's shaping up to be another season just outside of the "elite" top seeds but with just as much of a chance to get hot in the playoffs and make a run

Gman11 : 9/17/2014 9:06 am : link
they didn't lose much by letting Pouliot, Boyle and Stralman go.

Pouliot just too many stupid penalties and Stempniak can score just as well. Boyle is another Blair Betts. People wring their hands at the thought of him leaving then find out he is easily replaceable. Stralman was supposed to be a person to play on the power play, but he never did much. Dan Boyle will be a better option if he doesn't have osteoporosis.

I could not agree more. Love the moves they made this off season. Time for a few of their younger players on the D to step up. Goaltending tends to look better when the players in front of them play better and vice versa. I believe this team takes big step forward this year.

I agree - Girardi's been a very good player for a long time. I thought he'd have a shorter peak given his style of play (hopefully the postseason was an aberration for Girardi and not a sign of things to come), and I'd rather spend that cash on depth.

While the Isles don't go deep with proven D-men, unlike the past 5 years, they have a lot of talented prospects fighting for the last 1 or 2 d-man roster spots. Guys like Reinart/Pokka/Brennan/Pulock/Donovan/Czurchman are all going to be competing to get playing time. IMO, this is a better situation than dusting off Martinek/Pandolfo that we've seen them do recently.
The Devils
Jay on the Island : 9/17/2014 10:19 am : link
will make the playoffs this year. There is no way they are going 0-13 in the shootout again. Now that Schneider is entrenched as the #1 goalie and the additions of Cammalleri and Havlat they will be a much better team. Hopefully Clowe can stay relatively healthy as well. I am really looking forward to seeing what Merrill, Gelinas, and Larsson do this year now that they will finally be given a chance to play.
I'm worried that Girardi's going to fall off a cliff

No, there are divers on every team, most of it is when the stick gets up high. Habs have a reputation for it, and non-objective fans harp on it, but if they do it more than anyone else it's marginally at best and I expect it to decrease as it gets called more.

BrettNYG10 : 9/17/2014 11:00 am : link
I think there are five to six teams in the East who would not surprise me at all to make the SCF this year. I feel like there is a shitload more parity among the top half of the league than there's ever been since I've been watching.

The Flyers, Lightning, Bruins, Canadiens, Penguins and Rangers are all teams I think can make it out. Even the Devils might be a wild card. I think the Bruins take a step back this year. Rangers record is probably a bit better without the early season adjustments, but they'll still be a 3-6th seed (3's being optimistic).

Fuck the Islanders.

BurberryManning : 9/17/2014 11:20 am : link
some of the advanced stats guys that follow the Rangers pointed out that Girardi's play had begun to fall well before the playoffs, in fact it made McD's performance all the more impressive because the stats gave the impression that he was picking up the slack left by G. I'm not fully reliant on advanced stats but it certainly warrants concern.

The good news is that this concern comes at a position of organizational strength. Whether it be Girardi or Staal, the Rangers have Conor Allen, Dylan McIlrath, Mat Bodie, and Brady Skjei among others that can be eased into the lineup and developed at certain points in case a long-term move needs to be made.
Isles make the playoffs as the 7 or 8
marbles : 9/17/2014 11:26 am : link
If nothing else, a full season without Andy Mac getting consistently beat by his man on the outside, and Nabakov consistently getting beat by the puck on the glove hand will result in stark improvement.

Hopefully the Toronto imports recapture the scoring touch from a couple of years ago. That will give the Isles four playoff-worthy lines at least.

Right, we have some depth in the system - and I would have signed Stralman over DG. Part of my thinking was that we could fill DG's spot with some of that younger talent.

From a roster construction perspective, we don't have many guys you can point to as overpaid other than Nash, really. You can win with a shit contract (which Nash isn't, he's just underperforming). But you need a few guys producing well above their cap hit.

Rangers I could see anywhere from being 3 seed to a disaster. Outside of McD, Hank, and Staal, I just have no idea what to expect from so many guys. What to Nash, MSL, and Girardi have left? Is Brassard a #2 center? Do Stepan and Kreider take the next step? I could go on.

would have made the playoffs over Detroit easily if they had had competent goaltending (I showed the math using goal differential on an earlier thread). And of course they lost a superstar talent in JT for a long time. Really expect them to make the leap this year and be in the running for a 4-6 seed.

Devils I will not prognosticate on. I dont understand how they ever win.

really improve and it took a miracle to reach the conference finals, they're not winning the cup.

Bruins, Blackhawks, Kings, Penguins, and of course the Canadiens all better teams easily than the Rangers.

blues, sharks and avs slightly better.

Voice of reason right there..........

PJ - noticed you listed the teams in alphabetical order? LOL....

Do you feel the new NHL rules of diving will hurt the Habs?

No, there are divers on every team, most of it is when the stick gets up high. Habs have a reputation for it, and non-objective fans harp on it, but if they do it more than anyone else it's marginally at best and I expect it to decrease as it gets called more.

"Habs have a reputation for it, and non-objective fans harp on it"

Boy am I enjoying the irony of that statement ...pure gold.

irony doesn't mean what you think it means. I'm not sure gold means what you think it means either.
Don't sweat it, Brett

TRAINING CAMP TOMORROW!
Davisian : 9/17/2014 9:53 pm : link
FUCK YEAH!

I think the CBJ will be very good this year. I grudgingly think the Isles will be up there..

And I think the East is extremely wide open.

Bruins, Pens and Habs are all very beatable.

I think the Eastern juggernaut this year will be Tampa Bay.

I hope not. Fuck those fucking ex-Rangers. Every single one of them.

#WewantahighSecondRounder
They have Bishop, Hedman and Stamkos
Davisian : 9/17/2014 11:01 pm : link
Along with a stable of young talent that stepped up last year, then added very good experience in Callahan, Boyle and Stralman.

They'd be my pick to take 1st overall in the east.

Wouldn't mind if we invited Dustin Penner to camp
Anakim : 9/17/2014 11:10 pm : link
Not that we have any room for him, but why the fuck not

I hope Tampa Bay is the 7th worst team, behind the Devils, Islanders, Penguins, Flyers, Hurricanes and Capitals.

Yeah, but it couldn't hurt. Why not? I mean we already have a few retreads in Lombardi and Malone. One more couldn't hurt. Haha

Preseason's Monday!!!
AV said JT and Hayes will start out at C in camp
JonC : 9/18/2014 3:40 pm : link
If one or both works out at C, we're suddenly pretty deep down the middle. Blueliners look solid or better, need a couple wingers to develop.
Hasn't Hayes played wing all through college?
redbeard : 9/18/2014 3:45 pm : link
I know he played at the pivot in high school but I feel like he has enough on his dish without having to try to adjust to a position he hasn't played in sometime

Also, I haven't taken two different NHL teams to the Stanley Cup final so I should probably shut my trap to defer to AV
gingerboy
JonC : 9/18/2014 3:56 pm : link
The blurb on SNY says he did play mostly wing at BC, I too would be interested to learn AV's reasoning. Here's the blurb:

2:06PM: AV said today, “On guys playing middle and wing, “I would say that versatility is a big bonus. In JT and Hayes, they are starting in the middle and as the camp unfolds we will look at decisions that need to be made. Nash on the right side, Nash on the left, things like that.” (via Lohud on Soundcloud)

1:02PM: Kevin Hayes and JT Miller are both opening training camp as centers. (Steve Zipay)

Hayes has played mostly wing at BC but played center during the Traverse City tournament.

Miller said that his preference is to play center but can also play wing. He said that center has started to “fit” him better in the pro game and while he has made strides, he still needs to work on his defensive zone coverage. (Rangers)
