Not saying he's particularly good in a 4-3, just that he had little chance when they switched to a 3-4. IIRC, he was a good special-teamer in Philly, but a weak link as a starter in the middle (except against the Giants, of course).

I mean it has reach mascot level. Who takes the blame for holding a roster spot for a guy you don't really want to play?
Fans don't want him to play, but the coaches seem comfortable with it (backup MLB behind a player not fully recovered from an injury) or at least felt he was the best of the lot they had in camp. These other moves are about depth and due diligence. You can't just dress 4 LBs (McClain, JW, Paysinger, Herzlich).
The loss of both Kennard and Beason means that we can't swing Mclain into the MLB spot and Kennard into the lineup, so Herzlich is sadly put into a position he cannot handle.
