plays for Corey Washington

hilary f : 9/17/2014 6:43 pm
I spoke with my old buddies from high school about our favorite plays from touch football. There was run to to the sewer and cut to the curb, down and out, run 10 yards and turn around,go long and stop and go.Routes don't have to be that complicated and he does not need to know every adjustment.Give him 5 or 10 routes and see what he can do when he gets one on one coverage with a shorter DB.Reluctance to use first year players is one of TC'S problems.

I just want to know how Talley comes from PS

squad and is premoted to 2nd stringer before Washington?? Anyone?

Washington is VERY, VERY raw. Fans are going to have to have patience with him.
Talley was considered likely to make it....
MOOPS : 9/17/2014 6:58 pm : link
through waivers to the PS. Washington wasn't.
In the best of circumstances, neither would have been considered more than a 5 or a 6 and likely would have rarely seen the field.
i can't wait to see

Washington run a run to the sewer play. Lets see Richard Sherman defend that!!!!!
even though this thread seems funny it really doesn't have to be that
gtt350 : 9/17/2014 7:44 pm : link
complicated. tell him run a post or a stop and go then throw him the damn ball and let him get it. If Eli reads the coverage and it's favorable let it go
I think our excitement over Washington is unjustified.
81_Great_Dane : 9/17/2014 8:06 pm : link
He made plays in preseason against 3rd and 4th string defenses. Most of those guys aren't even on rosters today. The 4th quarter of an NFL preseason game has almost no resemblance to real NFL game action except for the uniforms.

Ramses Barden and Travis Beckum were far more NFL ready in their first seasons with the Giants than Washington is, and we know how they turned out.
I like Washington he is a great athlete
Rjanyg : 9/17/2014 9:13 pm : link
However, it is more than just run this route and I'll throw it to you. Route combinations and timing routes are a big part of success in the passing game. Just because he produced in the pre season doesn't mean he will produce now. He has ability, which is why he made the team.

With Jerrnigan out, he will probably see more time. He has the tools.
Here's what I think could be the reason.
prdave73 : 9/17/2014 9:31 pm : link
Giants know they have a talent in this kid and don't want to risk losing him to another team if they put him in the PS squad.. I know he's very Raw but at this point with all the injuries it wouldn't hurt to try him out with the 1st stringers, they did on one play in the end zone in the Giants first game..

Raw yes...but if you send him on
a post he will score or draw 1 or 2
dbs.. that will free up cruz
Buttonhook

or fake the buttonhook and go long!
Eric is right.
batman11 : 9/17/2014 10:00 pm : link
Washington is raw. However, the difference between him and our more experienced, ahem polished receivers named Cruz and Randle is that Washington has shown that he can actually catch the damn ball! Put him in and let's see what he can do. What's the worst he can do? Drop a few. We have already seen that act.

I understand your frustration, but without Victor Cruz, we don't even get a whiff of the team's 8th NFL Championship.
Eric is right
SGMen : 9/17/2014 11:02 pm : link
First, Jernigan disappointed me. I really thought he finished well last year and would be productive this year but he really wasn't. Now he is gone and our #3 is well this guy name Preston Parker. The good thing is that Parker isn't a rookie, 2nd year guy or totally raw but Jernigan did beat him for the #3 job and that is telling.

Lets hope Beckham comes back for say game #5 and we don't have further injuries. Without speed, this offense will be very limited. We could also use TE Robinson deep down the seem. He "seamed" to be able to do that in pre-season and I still hold out hope he'll develop. I have to have some hope.

Lmao.. that was our bread n butter play back in the day. Worked everytime.
Eric,

of course, that is absolutely true. I am a fan of Victor. I want him and Randle to perform to their potential. If they don't, I would like to give a kid like Washington a chance. Isn't that how they discovered what Victor could do after he flashed in his first preseason?
Watch the Giants "IR him"
State of the Giants 14 : 9/18/2014 12:03 am : link
like they did Victor Cruz in 2010

Talley, is a pretty decent player. I think, he has lots of potential.
I agree Talley is a decent player,
prdave73 : 9/18/2014 3:47 am : link
But the question was why is he promoted ahead of a player that is already in the 53 man roster?? Usually the players on the 53 man roster are promoted next before PS players right?? You usually keep your best players on the 53 man roster, but I think I answered my own question with my theory on why..

You're right, though. When I think about it, that's a good question.
I think we already have a communication problem with the WR and QB
USAF NYG Fan : 9/18/2014 8:54 am : link
and that might make it worse. Eli has to remember the routes (and now timing) of all the receivers on the field. I don't think asking him to adjust for one player is a good idea right now. Maybe a few plays a game would be ok.

Which receiver plays like Jernigan more, Talley or Washington? Same concept here. Maybe Eli can adjust to Talley a lot easier than adjusting to Washington.

Also I think the Giants feel that Talley has a higher floor but a lower ceiling where Washington has the lower floor but higher ceiling. Washington would not have made it to the PS but Talley could. For now, Talley gives us more.
how bout he learns how to finish his blocks
Dave : 9/18/2014 10:00 am : link
so his guy doesn't cause any more fumbles on KOR's
(see his effort on the demps fumble, pfft)
Go to the Buick

Turn around, I'll throw it to you.
Talley, is a pretty decent player. I think, he has lots of potential.

Just change the name....the mantra of BBI....
How the hell,
Doomster : 9/18/2014 11:02 am : link
do you get a Buick on the playing field?
Maybe the problem with the offense
Lurts : 9/18/2014 12:37 pm : link
is that receivers are looking for Oldsmobiles.
Ideally your PR

You're right, though. When I think about it, that's a good question.

You don't necessarily keep the best 53 players. Was Nassib one of the best 53 players last year? No. But if the Giants waived him and tried to sign him to the Practice Squad they would have lost him. Same thing this year with Washington. With what he did in the preseason, the Giants would have lost him if they didn't keep him on the roster. But coming from a D2 college to the NFL is a huge jump, and he has a lot to learn. The bottom few guys on the 53 man roster are often developmental guys. You may not use them in September, but you might need them in November, December or next year. At this point, Talley, with a full year practicing with the Giants, is much more ready to play for the Giants, even if he was available to other teams on the Practice Squad.
