I think Hillis should be elevated to #2 running back this week. Granted, part of Williams struggles have been less than stellar run-blocking, but it's also due to his inexperience. I wonder if Coughlin would be to stubborn to make this move at this time. It's strange because I always thought Coughlin was the type of coach who didn't like to play rookies a lot.
Williams is struggling for the same reason Jennings is. The OL is not run blocking well and they're getting pushed back.
Williams is still behind a patchy, work-in-progess O-Line. As long as he isn't costing us games, there is absolutely no reason Hillis should come in before him.
Williams needs to play, I agree on that, but I'm very surprised we haven't seen Hillis on certain third down sets.
And, on cue, he dropped a dump off on Sunday on the last drive (or next to last drive).
Yep. its a mess... kid needs a hole.
Yep, so why not use Hillis similar to the Tony Galbreath role from the mid 80s. Come in on third down when Jennings is resting, and he's can either block or catch the ball out of the backfield if needed.
Williams still gets his carries....
However, if the game is on the line, like last week, and the drops continue, then you have to make a change....but one drop? No.....that's like benching Wilson for one fumble.....
He does a few things well. He pass blocks well. He runs and plays very hard. He has good hands. the last two in combination made for some nice first downs in the passing game where it looked like nothing was there. But, overall, he is not a guy you want touching the ball a lot during the game.

Doom...I'm not saying to sit him. You play him...when he runs on first and second down, you still have the option to throw to him then if the play calls for that. I see your point.
I'm just saying on third down, I think Hillis is a better option than Williams right now (when of course Jennings is resting).
E
Yes but at the same time, I think NFL defenses don't respect Williams in the pass game at this stage.
Do I think he'll get better. Yes.
I just think Hillis could get some more useful snaps, say on third and 8 or more, that's all.
Agreed, in fact I thought that's who this thread was for. He's been terrible.

He caught two other passes which is 2 more than last year. But I agree, he shouldn't be in there on obvious passing third downs. He is not a threat there and needs more development.

And pass protecting and catching a ball.
Surprised you can't figure it out. I'll spell it out for you. He is an athlete, but does not have good instincts.
A team that lives by running the football, San Francisco, couldn't make use of him.
This plave is an insane asylum. 2 games in and we already know what the rookie can do and should be taking his limited carries. Yeah, OK. This after we listen the perpetual bitch parade about how Coughlin doesn't give rookies chances.I've had more coherent conversations with crack addicts.
Yes, you nailed it!
Cards game.
If our run blocking improves, our backs, Williams included will look good.
I think he'll be good. I have to admit though....he looks like his hands are made of frying pans in the passing game. I've never seen a player look more uncomfortable catching a ball. Looks a little like Rocky Thompson fielding punts!
The Giants have nothing to lose at this point.
Sky's the limit with a guy like Andre', he's just not ready yet.
Ha. I knew someone would make a comment like this. Nice try, but no.
