@ebenezersamuel: Know this about Goodell: He's been huddled with his press ppl, going over scenarios. Expect many well-crafted lines, not much real truth
themselves. And I'm not suggesting he has to provide that, either, but these meaningless corporate PR events aren't worth tuning in to.
Although, I'd love for him to take the podium, say 'I'm the fucking commissioner of the NFL, I can do whatever the fuck I want and nobody can do jack shit about it', then kick the head of the NFLPA in the nuts and walk off stage (basically, a theatrical version of the last CBA negotiation).
His biggest mistake was getting into the punishment business for off field incidents in the first place. Should have just said punishment is the department of the legal system, if you don't like the punishments for these crimes talk to your congressman.
RE: Anyone expecting anything of substance at this point is kidding Â

If he's taking questions, it'll be more than a meaningless corporate event. They've had him squirreled away all week working on his answers. I actually think it could be really interesting. He can't afford to fuck up again.

This is just my guess, and I can be as wrong as anyone, but my guess is that the questions he fields will all be softballs lobbed at him from friendly channels. Would be interesting to see him grilled for a bit, but I highly doubt it.
so what happens when one of these guys getting punished before being Â
He actually got some good questions in the CBS interview and didn't answer them well. There's too much attention now. There's blood in the water, people are paying attention. There's no incentive for the Media not ask good questions nor for him to not answer tough ones. There's no more room under the carpet to sweep anything. If he can't regain some measure of credibility, his job may actually be in jeopardy. This could be a defining moment. And no less so if he dodges or otherwise doesn't come off well.
However, none of the unconvicted ones are losing any salary.
Sorta like putting a cop on desk duty while a shooting incident is investigated.
And the other option is to expect that a wife/girlfriend would risk her husband/boyfriend's career and all of the money involved, and assume she might be lying and take the risk that she gets the crap kicked out of her.
More than half of major violence in domestic abuse cases occur AFTER a breakup or report to the police.

Exactly but more specifically your state legislature, no?
RE: so what happens when one of these guys getting punished before being Â
Anything short of "I messed up big time for not acting sooner with respect to Rice's discilpine and more importantly the problem we've had with domestic violence..." will be spin control. The fact of the matter is that there have been numerous domestic violence situations with players, and it wasn't until that violence was shown to the world that the NFL felt the need to act. For years they've paraded the pink throughout the stadiums for breast cancer month, but turned a blind eye to domestic abuse.
So as someone stated, had he not started dealing with the off the field issues, they wouldn't be under the microscope so much.
Ray Rice hasn't been "proven" guilty of anything Â
and his now wife, the victim, has stated that all the attention is unwanted and unhelpful.
Perhaps Goodell will commit seppuku to atone for the ham-fisted way in which the cartel has gone about all this.
He hasn't been "convicted" of anything, but I'm pretty sure the video of him lighting up his GF/wife and his subsequent confession is "proof" of abuse.

We already know he'll do anything for ratings. It'll be his curtain call.
No need for pads, helmets or tackling...
May help our "D"...

I don't know. I heard his wife told him not to go shooting his mouth off today.
Nothing to see here. He just wants to hear himself talk.

I'd imagine they'd recoup any lost pay.
HE'S BOMBING ISIS?
HE WANTS A RAISE?
HE BEAT HIS WIFE?
They're suspended WITH pay, except for Ray Rice who's been proven guilty via video evidence.

If they didn't want this attention maybe they shouldn't have done an Ali/Liston rematch in a public elevator.

Press conference over.
Commence vomiting.
Distributing information about help numbers to the teams. What a fucking joke.
