1. Beckham Has Become a 'Bonus'
At this point, the Giants coaches are acting as if rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. doesn't exist. It's nothing against the No. 12 overall pick in the draft. In fact, it seems to be for his benefit.
"Coughlin and McAdoo don't want to put any additional and unnecessary pressure on the first-round pick as he recovers from a hamstring injury that has prohibited him from completing a full practice since June. Given the way the past three months have unfolded, they figure it's best to provide him all the time and space necessary so that, whenever he does return, it's at 100 percent. Beckham has been doing more on the side with trainers at practice, but still hasn't taken a snap in almost a month.
McAdoo even admitted that he doesn't allow himself to dream of the day that Beckham returns. It lets the team (and coaches) live in the present, not the future.
"[Beckham] has a special skill set. He is gifted. He is talented," McAdoo said. "He is smart. He is conscientious. I am excited for the chance for him to come out here. It has to be painful for him right now. I am not going to put myself or him through any of that. When he comes out here, it will be a good bonus for all of us."

25% of his Giants career (potentially) flushed down the toilet.
Injuries suck.
He's apparently running sprints and agility drills, which suggests he shouldn't be far from returning to practice. The wildcard is hammies are difficult to predict accurately.

A: No.
Q: Why not?

I think he was more saying the offense should be better with what they currently have and he doesn't want to put prerssure on OB JR to return because of that. He'll just be another weapon when he does return. I could be way off though.
Don't expect to see him and if we do, consider it a bonus.
I do think he will eventually play this year I just don't expect a whole lot out of him. He missed all of camp, all of preseason. It's going to take him a few weeks on top of just being able to play before he can really help and by then, it'll probably be too late.
The guy is hurt. When he plays, he plays. Coaches can't spend their time pining for hurt players because it doesn't get them anywhere.
He certainly isn't saying anything that he does would be a bonus.

That was more or less my interpretation.
I hope he will be able to dominate a DB the same way he can dominate the juggs machine.
The Giants need playmakers in a very urgent way...just as they did last year. ODB was a very good pick, the fact he has a bad hammy is irrelevant.
It's the same kind of argument about putting Sehorn in to return kicks. Lots of starters and corners returned kicks, to no detriment, Woodson being one who comes to mind.
Injuries are unpredictable. Live with it.
Actually ANYBODY may be considered a bonus at this point because nobody on offense is stepping up and playing like they are capable.

well said

What would've been so terrible about drafting Martin AND Richburg. Our o-line was brutal last year. Spending our 1st 2 picks on quality versatile offensive linemen actually would've made sense. Yes, we needed a playmaking WR, but championships are won at QB, OL, and DL.

the Giants should have drafted Martin or Donald in hindsight is ridiculous IMO....maybe a decent WR would have been available in rd 2, OK...but they got Richburg in that slot then Bromley in the 3rd which don't exactly look like garbage picks at this point.

Thank you Taxman!!! Made sense to me on draft day.
Gonna have to add another red flag to the scouting process.
Is he a into drugs? Nah
Does he have any off the field issues? Not really
Well than why is he off our draft board? Last name Demps
But you gotta start somewhere...
Bonus? A bonus? What do you call all the games he's not been out there? That hammy is writing checks that can't be cashed....with Nicks gone, Mr. McAdoo, are you trying to say your offense was not counting on OBj to be a big contributor? I guess not, after all, he's just a #1 pick....
Bill Belichick:"Take away Cruz and Nicks. Make them go to Manningham"
Don't take that long.
They are playing with who's available and when OBJ can finally play, it will be a bonus.
C'mon, Mike.
Don't take that long.
Ryan Zimmerman has been out two months now, and he doesn't need the speed and vertical leap that Beckham will. Hamstring injuries are miserable.
Not 04 Shockey levels, but agreed, makes real games more depressing
Imagine if that happens?
