It's 0-3. We don't seem to have a real claim on first pick, though. Others have shown they can be worse -- and the Giants should get better as players return (or, in one case, begin ).
have to make Fitzpatrick beat us, but he might be able to do so. We've had some gruesome mistakes in the secondary, Brown is slow, and they have Johnson and Hopkins. If Herzlich plays, they are sure to go after him, especially in pass coverage. Their OL hasn't given up a sack, and Foster is a very good RB. Look for them to use play action to Foster to try and free up their receivers and TEs.
On offense, our OL against their DL, especially Watt is a bad match up for us. Our running game is nonexistent. We also have no downfield threat. Despite his drops, the Texans are sure to take out Cruz.
To win, we have to avoid mistakes, and do what we haven't done, really control the LOS on both sides of the ball. We also need an unknown (Parker, Randle, Donnell) to step up and have a big game. Somebody the Texans aren't expecting.
I see the Giants coming out with renewed fire and emphasis, but eventually being worn down, and losing a close game.
Last week was the "must win" ... at this point I'm a realist who
understands that making the playoffs is a real long shot... therefore I'm in my 1970s mode of watching to see if the Giants have some youngsters who may turn out to be the foundation of the team moving forward ... frankly, I don't have a single player on that list right now - literally nobody on the team that I would consider "untradeable" because of his unique value. None. Zero. Nada.
Sadly, that says quite a lot about the state of the NY Giants.
I'd add Derek Newton at RT to Duane Brown at LT- Brown's an All-Pro and Newton is very good. Excellent OT duo.
Key IMO is whether the Giants OL can run-block a little bit and also give Eli time to pass. If not, then we lose.
Texans run 2 out of 3 plays and 70% on 1st down. Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins are very good WRs but IMO Fitz cannot throw deep. IMO the Giants have a reasonably good chance to stop the Texans running game even though Foster has run for over 100 yards in each of the 1st two games.
stack the box, make Fitzpatrick beat us. We already know their running game combined with JJ Watt on defense is what has gotten them a 2-0 start. Fitzpatrick is averaging just 20 throws per game, completing 68% of those, and managing the game well because they can run the ball. Through 2 games the Texans are averaging 40 carries per game (80 total and twice as much as they are throwing the ball). Foster is getting more than half those (55 carries total). Until proven otherwise Fitzpatrick is in there to not the lose the game, lets see if we can make him lose it.
If I'm the Texans I'm just going to run the ball on you and wear down a defense that is missing 2 of its linebackers and allow the running game to open up the passing game. Your offense doesn't scare me and I'm going to unleash JJ Watt on your QB. I think I can get 1-2 turnovers from you.
To win this game, we aren't very good at - running the ball. Running directly at Watt and Clowney is the only way to save the o line and get the safeties to cheat upto play the run... unfortunately we can't run nor can we run block well.
I am raising the stakes right now, ... If this is a poker game, I am shoving my chips right in the middle of the table. I am raising the ante. Anybody who wants out, can get out. This team is going to be 3-2 going into Philly. OK? This team is going to be 3-2.
If there is anybody that can live up to that salary it is JJ Watt. The dude is fucking awesome at everything. Great pass rusher, run stopper, knocking balls down at the line, tackles for loss. He is awesome to watch. Unfortunately we have to watch him tomorrow. Not going to be too awesome to watch.
had first draft pick last year. C'mon everyone, give your head a shake. While the Gmen are not yet at the top they will handle this bunch of losers - easily. Once again those who should be our biggest fans all rush to roll over in order to show their sophistication.
Me too.
If the Gmen can slow down the run, the Texans are screwed, IMO.

Well, we couldn't take advantage of a backup qb, can we take advantage of the RB being out?
If we don't win this game, Coughlin is staring at another possible 0-6 start....

0-3
Giants could be 0-15 and I'd still watch every snap of game 16.
If the Giants stop stepping on themselves, they should beat them.
And you can be sure they are quaking in their boots to finally be facing SOMEBODY tomorrow!
