Gotta say his interview gave me a boner. Came off like a Mensch. If that's who he really is, then good for us and a better pickup than maybe even we thought he would be.That's a sparkplug. That's a guy like Tiki used to be who could lift up a team.Be nice to have someone on the team who can do that besides Eli, and occasionally Rolle.
Great effort

Kicked butt amazing intensity

Eli OL Jennings Cruz Parker all played great

Would be a blowout score but for the two missed Green zone chances

Kudos to mcadoo and fewell. Poodos to our special teams coordinator
Great win.

Agree with this. Been waiting for years for him to play in a modern offense. His brain is a great tool in this style.

I agree, I been waiting for a long ass time for a system like this. My worse fear was to have Eli in the same damn system for his whole career while other Qbs get to be 2 or 3 systems.

when the Giants went way too conservative with the running game, the offense was basically unstoppable. They stopped themselves a few times with turnovers and drops, but Houston did not really stop them much at all.

I despise that shit! I loved what Bruce Arians did to us to kill clock. Instead of the run 3 times and punt, he threw for the first down.

One thing about TC I hate is when we get the lead and he goes into let's kill the clock mentality. Next drive, they score. Then, now we have to revive the offense and hope that momentum is still there.

Just let the offense continue to run their plays. If we happen to keep scoring, then so be it. Don't go into kill the clock mode.

is going to benefit greatly if Beckham can contribute early. The don't have anyone on offense who can threaten the defense deep and get some cheap scores.

Him coming back and the OL continuing htis positive trend in addition to Donnell being better than expected means we could have a pretty good O going forward.

I'd like to see him make some "contested" catches. like last week at the end of the game and this week in the end zone. he just doesn't seem to want it badly enough
Chris,
AnishPatel : 9/21/2014 5:55 pm : link
I am not sure there will be cheap scores in this system. Closest thing was this slant that Cruz ran and got caught. Everything else is dink, dunk, dink, dunk and when we are in the red zone, then we can score.

I am not sure the deep passes are even designed well. Every deep pass has RR vs a covering CB and safety flying in. I think that is for keeping defenses honest. However, I don't see how they can work. But then again, I have zero trust in RR, especially running routes longer than 20 yards.

chris r : 9/21/2014 6:00 pm : link
I can't imagine that every deep play will be double covered, but even so Beckham probably gives teams a better reason to keep that safety deep than Randle does which should open up the middle of the field.

except Randle is 6'3"
oipolloi : 9/21/2014 6:05 pm : link
he has to be able to come down with the ball more often going against guys 4-5 inches shorter than he is

Eli put the ball right there for him twice. Both times the Houston DBs made a nice play. So give them credit. But RR has to start winning those battles.

And hell, even from special teams... something that didn't appear to be in the cards in the early going.

It's possible that the confluence of winning the turnover battle and making more special teams plays doesn't recur much the rest of the season and this win is ultimately just one of 5 or 6. But you can't discount how this win must feel to the players and staff, and how it may build some momentum and confidence.

Again, it depends on OB. Can he get off the line? If he in sync with Eli? Can he break on slants, and square ins and out? I am treating him as a complete unknown quantity, until he proves he can do these things physically AND then produce.

I'd rather switch, and have RR take the top, and let Cruz and OB work the middle, where they can catch and run like Cruz did today.

That was fun to watch, and I was expecting Cruz would excel with the ball in his hands like that. So finally seeing it, was great. Now he just needs to catch the damn ball.

Yup. Hankins got the tackle but it was Patterson who made the play in the backfield.

I was going to give Patterson credit when I first saw that play but replayed it and noticed, he fell down. Herz shot the gap missed whiffed on the tackle but showed down Blue because Patterson created a huge hole and Hankins made a great play. But I will rewatch it again to make sure.

only fair to say that they played much, much better but what the Hell is up with the critical errors that took points off the board. I wonder if a better team (say the Lions or Cardinals?) might not have let the Giants off the hook so easily.

Regardless, you only play who is in front of you and today was better and encouraging.

Herzlich wasn't that bad

Stevie brown doesn't have the foot speed

Gonna be fun if/when odb plays

Moore is a freak athletically

JPP playing like he wants to get paid

JJ Watt does whatever he wants to put there. It's amazing

Parker looked decent but a little bit dear in headlights

RICHBURG looks like a true animal out there. It's exciting.

The coffee will taste better in the am
Work will be more tolerable in the am
BBI will be fun in the AM

Onwards to DC!

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 9/21/2014 9:19 pm : link
last year it felt like we were awful when it came to down and distance, always in a difficult position to succeed. Over the past couple of games and especially today this team just consistently got into favorable down/yardage situations on 2nd down. That had a lot to do with Jennings' big day but we used some quick passes on 1st down to set us up for easy 2nd downs.

I think one of the biggest failures of the Gilbride offense was the lack of high% short passes in early down situations to set us up for good 2nd down situations. It's something that McAdoo seems to be emphasizing and I love it. 2nd and medium just gives an offense so much more options than 2nd and long.

Last year we won 7 games but were a "true" 4/5 win team. This year's team is clearly better than last year's team imo. That still doesn't mean we will win more than 7 games, but I believe the arrow is pointing up and I'm happy with the immense progress this offense has made in a month. Win on Thursday to claw back into contention and I'll start thinking about our chances of catching the Eagles. But this was a great win no matter how you look at it.

you guys read my mind. i said the same thing when we started playing keep away ball. its why our wins arent convincing typically because we let bad teams back in games they have no business in.

we are better than both the cards and the texans. no onewill give us credit fir smashing the texans though because they hung their hats on a texans win. that should have been a 44-3 drubbing.

First off, I had the true pleasure of taking my sons to the game today for their first-ever Giants game. Growing up without a father in my house to ever share in the bonds of Giants fandom, this was a special moment for me.

So, some thoughts:
- I met Joe (License Plate Guy). While varying opinions of him exist on BBI, he was great to meet in person and a truly nice gentleman.
- I was lucky enough to have my sons on the field before the game (sincere thank you to Pat Hanlon; you are a wonderful person). One of my sons idolizes Victor Cruz and actually got to speak and high-five him. Transcript: (son wearing Cruz jersey): "Hi, Victor". VC: "Hey, little man!" Son: "I'm a big fan of yours". VC: "I can see that...thanks! Fives?". They five it out, son walks away from the rope in a daze with permasmile and has vowed to never wash hand again.
- Jennings had the best game a Giants RB has seen since the halcyon days of Tiki Barber.
- Outside of the first offensive series and the Watt sack, the line was outstanding.
- DL was very effective, even Kuhn on a few plays. They need to close better on the QB and had some missed tackles, and that needs to be cleaned up. However, on some plays, JPP looked like he was shot out of a cannon. Damonster is going to be a force as he evolves.
- Secondary, with the exception of the long TD that Brown got toasted on, was impressive. I'll go out on a short limb and say that Prince is our best defensive player.
- Observation from pregame, just noting, both kickers were hitting FGs from 60 yards.
- It was beautiful to see the return of the Cruz we've come to love.
- From my vantage point, up above, great aerial view of the Fells TD...Eli's throw was magnificent. He put it into a window about two footballs high and two wide. Looped it over the first defender and threw it inside enough away from the defender directly on Fells that if 85 didn't catch it, no one would.
- Andre Williams is still learning the offense. There were two handoffs to him that were supposed to either go in a different direction or that he was supposed to be quicker towards Eli. The handoffs weren't bobbled, but the plays were blown up because of Williams' hesitancy; I observed Eli instantly angry, clapping his hands together and turning up his palms in that "gosh dangit" fashion.
- Seeing JJ Watt at field level...that is a large man.

Unbelievable day, great outcome, and a day with my sons we'll never forget.
^^

bad throws in almost 30. The OL did a wonderful job against everyone not named JJ Watt. Its nice to see the offense on the upswing.

The only issue I had with McAdoo was I thought the team got way too conservative offensively in the 3rd quarter. The 3rd and 3 run in the red zone with base personnel was ridiculous.

The defense was solid. The line did an excellent job of collapsing the pocket. The only negative was Stevie Brown, who was promptly benched.
