OLine play

B in ALB : 9/21/2014 5:03 pm
Some of you know I'm a linemen guy. I focus mainly on the line play. The Giants OL today played really really well. I thought Richburg, Walton and Jerry were all solid. I was particularly impressed by Richburg who got Watt for a good portion of the game. Watt was lining up in that 3 technique spot on Richburgs outside shoulder and the kid performed really well. The only problem came when Richburg was reaching the NT and Beatty had to almost bucket step to pick up Watt. Watt knew this, got skinny, swam him and Beatty was on his knees. He did this to Pugh on the other side too.

I was a bit confused by Watt lining up outside shade on Richburg instead of on the edge but perhaps he underestimated him. He tried Jerry the same way. And Jerry did OK.

Look - Watt will make his plays - he's a beast. But anytime your QB is on his back only once and you rushed for about 200 yards the OL did very well.

This is big time encouraging for the Giants. That said, when they face a 4-3 that's stout at the 1 technique spot with an edge guy - that'll be an entirely different test. Well done today though.

Watt said he would dominate all 5 of them today

The Texans were pretty giddy about playing against this line and receivers... Fire Romeo I guess because they suppose to have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. Unless they need a PED recharge, not a good effort out of them today.
For me, I can only tell because Manning's uniform

was clean, he was able to step into his throws, and the monster running yardage speaks for itself.

Good to hear from someone who knows OL play.
I think we'll be fine, consistently, in another game or two.

One doesn't have to be an Xs and Os guy to know that all these guys needed was work, TOGETHER..It's getting there. It's called common sense
I'm already worried

about what happens to Richburg when Schwartz gets back. TC's mishandled such scenarios in the past.

Wasn't Richburg going to be moved to LG with Schwartz going to RG after Snee's retirement?

Pretty sure Schwartz would be taking Jerry's place

If anything Swartz should replace Jerry. He's the weakest on the line right now.
If OL continues to play like today,
baadbill : 9/21/2014 5:24 pm : link
Schwartz is going to sit.
Leave the rookie alone at LG

Replace Jerry. The kid my never make it to C if he becomes a pro bowl G.
B, I wasn't referring to you as one of the Xs and Os guys.
Big Blue '56 : 9/21/2014 5:27 pm : link
You and dorgan have preached patience with this new OL..You've both used common sense without the bullshit overanalyzation..
this was the most encouraging sign of the game by far

While I harbored a little doubt about Eli rebounding and playing well in the short passing game, by far the largest question mark for me this season was the OL. If it plays this well, we have a chance to make some noise. Especially if Beckham can get back and make some big plays.
No, everyone on BBI knows,

O-Line sucks. Or what is BBI for?
does Howard go to the funeral?

Wrong thread.
richburg has not been good the first two games....
Simms11 : 9/21/2014 6:54 pm : link
with that said, he has gotten better. Jerry on the other side has been consistent and not too bad at all. Lets see how it all plays out. We still have quite a few weeks before that decision has to be made.
My impression was that the Giants made most of their

rushing yards running to the left. So without seeing the grades, I'd have to think Walton, Richburg and Beatty had a pretty good game
John Jerry

I have to confess that I hated the signing and the fact that he spent so much time in the preseason showing absolutely nothing (yes, I know he was coming back from an injury) seemed to confirm my worst fears.

But on the whole he has done a pretty good job in there this season. I agree that he is probably headed to the bench when Schwartz gets back, but let's give the man some props when he deserves them.
Schwartz can't return at least until the bye.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/22/2014 4:50 am : link
A lot can change in a month, for better or worse. Although swapping Schwartz in for Jerry seems like the obvious move, it's easy to imagine any one of the three interior guys going to the bench, or Schwartz sitting until he's needed. It's not as though we have Steve Hutchinson coming off short-term IR. If the line is functioning well at the bye, and there's no conspicuous weak link on Flaherty's grading sheets, I would expect the staff to leave it alone.
What did you see on

the run play that Watt blew up?
