Opinions of JPP three games in?

chris r : 9/21/2014 6:13 pm
IMO JPP was the biggest defensive wild card going into the season. We have some very good defensive players but he's the only one who has dominating, all pro, game wrecking ability.

So far, how do people think he's playing?

I think he's playing better than he has since 2011. I dont think we're going to see him be a 16 sack guy again - he's just not refined enough and doesn't have that elite get off to beat double teams - but he's still been very disruptive.

coaches have to gameplan for JPP
Bradshaw #44 : 9/21/2014 6:15 pm : link
before the season is over he will get his sacks. I agree that he probably will not get 16 again, but he is being disruptive all over the field.
Looks good

I think he looks really good. He seems like he is so close to the QB on most plays. Sacks aren't there yet, but he's been very good against the run. I wish the NFL kept track of QB hurries officially - I would bet JPP has alot.

Still think LDE is a better position for him

Agreed. I'm a broken record on this but IMO the sooner Moore wins a DE job and they bounce JPP over to LE the better.

I just hate when he goes down every game
Canton : 9/21/2014 6:39 pm : link
and we all have to hold our collective breathes. Especially when the doctors are checking him out on the sidelines.
JPP
stretch234 : 9/21/2014 6:41 pm : link
He is proving how important consistent pressure is. There is not a DE right now playing the run/pass as well as he is.

He is so close to sacks on so many occasions this year that they are going to come. Plus, he has gone against 2 very good LT thus far
better than the last two years
twostepgiants : 9/21/2014 6:43 pm : link
not as good as 2011 when he looked like the best defensive player in the NFL and a future HOFer

he looks like a legit very good DE.

he will need to do what Strahan did, he too experienced a few down years after a great career start, and became a master at his position that went beynd his talent

JPP is still relying on his talent.
good but not quite as dominant as 2011
oipolloi : 9/21/2014 7:05 pm : link
hankins has also looked good

I think the future
beatrixkiddo : 9/21/2014 7:07 pm : link
should be him at LE and Moore at RE. Ayers has been very good though lately, so I see why JPP is still at RE.

I'm extremely happy with how he's been this year
jgambrosio : 9/21/2014 7:25 pm : link
I had my doubts to start the season. He just needs to stay healthy though.

A line of him, Hankins, Moore and Jenkins with the secondary we have (sub Berhe for Brown) I think can do quite a bit to mask our LB core. We really need Beason back. Williams had a decent game today as well although I wasn't focusing on him.
He's been great
Exit 172 : 9/21/2014 7:30 pm : link
And it's about more than sacks. The first Giants' interception was more him than Prince.

I think his 2011 stats had more to do with the fact he was playing opposite Tuck.
He's back to his 2011 form

Stra got the sacks, but he played the run as well as anyone. JPP sort of reminds me of Stra the way he's been so good against the run this year. He's playing really terrific football through the first three games. Short week to rest up for the Washington team. Hope JPP puts a world of hurt on Kirk Cousins I.

I don't agree. Damontre Moore collapses the pocket.

And Osi. The guy is playing awesome right now.
I love the way JPP is playing this year...
richynyc : 9/21/2014 9:21 pm : link
...sacks are often misleading if the player doesn't play the run too. JPP is doing it all right now - creating pressure, playing the run beautifully , knocking down passes. I'd rather have him be a multidimensional DE like Strahan than a pure sack artist any day.
I actually like the jump
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 9/21/2014 9:28 pm : link
he's getting off the line at the snap this year. It's the quickest he's looked at the snap in a long time. Not even in 2011 do I remember him getting off this quickly. It's not every play that he's doing it, but he's showing flashes of it for the first time since college.

I love the way he is hustling, defending the run, batting down passes, and bull-rushing tackles.

I'm still slightly disappointed in him as a pass rusher, he's just so raw and often times he gets off the line super slow almost anticipating the run. But I feel like the jump he's getting off the snap is really going to allow him to get in a groove rushing the passer at some point in this season. I feel a 5 sacks in 3 games kind of stretch coming up for him soon.
he's knocking

Damontre needs more snaps. TC and Perry need to unleash him, even if he gets the old habit Osi used to have when he overran the play. Once Damontre is playing most of the snaps I'll agree

Looking like the JPP of old, which is a good thing.
