it took me a while to figure out who #34 was playing deep safety (nat berhe, not Derrick ward) after that play. I guess TC and Fewell had seen enough of Brown getting beat!
is an asshole. He could have been a big star in the biggest media market. He was too fucking selfish, irresponsible, and stupid to take advantage of it.
I'm not sure what I'm looking at on that chart.. are the snap counts the snap counts where we had 3 safeties on the field?
that's just Mundy's snap counts. Hill and Rolle played practically every down of every game they were active.
When the Giants ran 3 safety with Grant, Rolle, and KP in 2011 it was almost every down.
Rolle, KP, and Grant were all in the top 5 on the D in # of snaps.
Just saying I don't think they ran a lot of 3 safety looks last year and the evidence is Mundy wasn't on the field a lot (comparatively speaking) with Hill.
Well that's what he claimed. Even if he smoked a little weed I dont really care.
I care if he's on the list to get suspended for doing it. Keep your fucking nose clean and don't be a stupid shithead and be a star. Too much to ask. Fuck him.
Pretty soon smoking weed will be legalized Nation wide and he'll be an All Pro in Baltimore.....and we'll have Steve Brown limping around in center field.

Got it.
I guess since we ran 3 safeties on every down against DET in the last game, I thought they had been doing it more than they were. That coupled with him having done it in 2011 with Rolle, Phillips and Grant and I think he did it a bit in 2010 as well.
I guess it's not something we've used as much as I had thought but it seemed to be something we've gone to in certain situations/games and we just don't even have that freedom at all this year because we're so thin at S. Going into the year it felt like we had plenty of depth there but we really only have one guy we can rely on (Rolle)
I guess part of it depends on the personnel available to fewell, if Hill were on the team who knows, maybe Rolle, Hill and Brown would be out there every snap.
I just remember noticing Mundy's disappearance last year coincided with Hill's return and the Beason trade.
remains that Hill was not malicious, he had a bit of a drug problem, and because we cut him, we're relying on a rookie 5th rounder instead of an established NFL caliber safety.
Bad player. Hill, pretty decent player, but an addict and not the sort of guy you want getting away with things involving the coach too many times. He used up his chances with the Giants. Had to go.
The people hand-wringing over Will Hill do realize
He also didn't pay child support, was hanging out with some bad characters, and trashed his apartment. That's just what we KNOW. There very well could be more. He clearly has a lot of growing up to do. I hope it works out for him.
It taught no one a lesson, especially when the player was picked up by another organization so quickly.
I don't agree with the people who act like Brown was never any good. However, he wasn't a terrific athlete to begin with and he has absolutely no speed, agility, or range right now. The Giants were absolutely right to bench him... there's nowhere to "hide" him on defense. The lack of range kills him at FS and he would need to cover people at SS.
in the minority, but a 4 game suspension is not reason to cut a young potential cornerstone of your defense.
Well, this time the suspension was 6 games not 4. Had they kept Hill, his total missed games would be 14 of 48 due to suspensions. Missing 14 games really hurts the team.
I really disagree that cutting Hill was idiotic. The coaching staff demonstrated support for him over the years. They reportedly arranged for treatment. Knowing the Giant's organization, I believe they grappled with how to handle him, and tolerated it as much as they could, to a breaking point. The Giants org were also concerned with the message it was sending to other players, particularly younger ones, by tolerating Hill time and time again.
Rather than an idiotic decision, I believe the Giants org put plenty of thought and deliberation into the pros and cons of keeping or canning him, and then concluded what their best course of action was.

Being away from new jersey is probably the best thing for him. Baltimore might still be too close to home.
...I was glad to see Berhe replace him. The straight depth-chart move would have been to insert Demps, who is a known quantity, and not in a good way. Seeing Brown get such a quick hook - for a rookie, no less - suggests that Berhe has shown Coach Merritt a lot on he practice field. Otherwise, the staff would have stuck with the vets until there was no choice.
Maybe a lighter workload will help Brown. He's had a fair amount of time to rehab that ACL, but still appears to have a ways to go, and was never the smoothest safety before the injury. He might do better in the #3 safety role, which is where he'd be anyway if Will Hill's Giant career hadn't gone up in smoke.
Big shame about Cooper Taylor. The kid has some skills.
He wasn't much more than a lottery ticket going into 2014. Still, with Hill gone, Demps and Brown sucking and Berhe even more of a mystery than Taylor, it would be nice to have that extra lottery ticket at the safety position.
I didn't know Brown got benched but not surprised.
There were a few astute posters on this site this off-season that were projecting problems again with the deep secondary if Stevie Brown returned as a starter.
Fans remember the picks, but he was as much responsible for many long pass plays/tds 2 seasons ago than anyone.
You can bet the rest of the NFC East is licking their chops at exposing him deep.
I don't think anyone will argue that Stevie Brown is a large
drop off from Will Hill. But had the Giants not cut Will Hill, Stevie Brown still would have been on the field yesterday because Mr. Hill is suspended the first six games of the season (and is one mis-step away from a year-long suspension). Will Hill is gone because they need players they can count on, There was nothing idiotic about cutting him.
he makes mistakes on coverage assignments. Of course, as fans we cannot know what coverage assignments are but it seems Brown keeps making mistakes, particularly in the Lions game and yesterday.
Frequently guesses wrong, takes poor angles of pursuit, etc. I've pointed this out since 2012, and it's no coincidence the issues in the backend returned when he did.

100% spot on.

Players don't know until the meeting after the coaches go over the tape. I can tell ya now, that him being pulled for a rookie speaks volumes.
reading his keys and looking into the backfield for where the ball is, and ensuring he is the deepest player on the field.
If he is guessing, he doesn't know what he is doing and worthless to us.
I was always fine with re-signing him, but never understood how he was worth $2.75 million (of which $1 mill was guaranteed). Half of that would have been fair, especially off of a bad knee injury.
Well that's what he claimed. Even if he smoked a little weed I dont really care.
Demps sucks

Even though he sat across the table from ownership, looked them in the eyes and told them that he wouldn't?

Hill wouldn't be out there right now anyway, but if Hill hadn't screwed up, Brown might have been on the PUP or IR list this year.
He's a stand up guy!

What does that even mean?
He is going to get suspended for a year. It's a matter of when, not if.

Brown is much better suited to being a "small LB/big safety" at this point. Let's hope Berhe is the nuts.

For the same reason.
