Sometimes you have to get lucky in addition to playing well

jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 9/21/2014 8:43 pm
I think the Giants got lucky on 3 big plays against Houston.

1. Andre Johnson makes a spectacular catch for a huge gain, but it is called back for a procedure penalty.

2. Fitzpatrick scrambles for an apparent first down. Kiwaunuka is down, so an injury stoppage occurs. During that television time out, the coaches in the press box signal to coach Coughlin to challenge the spot. I don't believe they would have got that information to the side lines in time without the injury time out. And after winning the challenge and forcing a punt, DaMontre Moore blocks the punt.

3. On a 3rd down in the red zone, one of Eli's passes is blocked by J.J. Watt. Luckily, it falls harmlessly among several defensive players.

I do believe the Giants on the whole played well, but those plays if they had gone the other way could have led to a different outcome. Instead of celebrating, we would be rueing all the points not scored in the first period.

So penalties and botched officials spots that got corrected via a challenge is getting lucky?

There is so much wrong with this post. And, we can play this they got lucky stuff all night...
Nice addition of a turd

None of these qualify as "luck"

You know, if I was a Texan fan I would say we were sure as shit lucky that the giants botched a routine snap on a 30 yd FG.
That wasn't Johnson
Southern Man : 9/21/2014 8:55 pm : link
making that catch...it was Hopkins, and a spectacular catch it was.
No surprise, misery sells and it is a big part of internet trolling

If this was a loss, two pages of threads would be calling for heads. Get a win, very little posts. So you have to find the next best thing, talk about how lucky the team was to get the win.

Or fumbled inside the 5 as they were going in for a score. But that's neither here nor there. This guy is an assclown

The Giants were dominating today. The score and the stats don't tell how well they played on both sides of the ball.
That catch by Hopkins was insane
kmed : 9/21/2014 9:05 pm : link
and it's a shame that nobody will pay attention to it because of the penalty.
We were lucky
bignygfan : 9/21/2014 9:10 pm : link
with the Tyree play.

with Miles Austin losing the ball in the lights.

With the Kyle Williams miscues.

The OP is right. We should give our Lombardis to the Patriots - the rightful owners.

Don't forget Welker should have made that catch. Stupid luck.

You make some very good points. The Kiwanuka injury allowed the coaches more time to review the play, leading to the punt and the punt block.

BTW, it was Hopkins who had the long catch on the penalty.

Andre Johnson was pretty much shutdown today.
I guess it depends on your definition of "luck"
tikimvp : 9/21/2014 11:21 pm : link
The correct call being made is not luck. It would of been incredibly lucky to the Texans if they got an incorrect first down spot.
Giants were also unlucky when the refs called Prince for PI
Mason : 9/21/2014 11:50 pm : link
when he was the being interfere with trying to play the ball and was in position for the catch.
that Hopkins catch

was one of the best I've ever seen.
An extraordinarily negative view of the game.
Shockeyisthebest80 : 9/22/2014 12:59 am : link
- Were the Texans not lucky to recover a fumble inside the 10 yard line?

- Were the Texans not lucky a terrible snap sunk a relatively makeable FG attempt?
I think I was misunderstood

lately, it seems all the breaks have gone against the Giants.
For instance, a pass by Eli hits a foot but somehow gets intercepted.

I'm sure all of you thought that pass that was deflected was going to be intercepted as it hung in the air.

As for the challenge on the spot, I still maintain that if it were not for Kiwaunuka being down and apparently injured, they never get the time to see the error and get the information to the sidelines.

Thanks for the correction on who made the catch that did not count because of a penalty.

And I did say they played well. Still sometimes you need the breaks especially after the combination of giving the game away the week before and leaving several points on the field in the first quarter due to poor plays.

those of you calling Jeff a troll, you're dead wrong.

I've known him for a long time and he's a good man. He's just pointing out a few areas where chance did happen to play a role.

That's not earth shattering. Chance usually plays a part in every game.
there is no doubt that getting breaks helps
gidiefor : Mod : 9/22/2014 9:35 am : link
We lost the Arizona game because of several bad breaks

I'll take good breaks and good play - all year long baby!!

Go Giants!!!

Thank you coach.

For so long the breaks have seemed to go against the Giants that it seemed nice to get a few.

And that bad snap on the early field goal try was a good break for Houston. It was not a bad break for the Giants: it was a total fuckup.

Yeah, what a troll! Pointing out very reasonable points that don't totally jive with the "Giants are an unstoppable force" narrative!
Weird that Houston

never got lucky though, eh?

Fucky tool.
I have seen my share of teams be "lucky" when beating the Giants
steve in ky : 9/22/2014 5:37 pm : link
I never remember anyone making any apologies for any of them.

A win is a win and in the end it doesn't matter how a team got there as long as it is a win in the books.
I think the luck on the batted pass was
mort christenson : 9/22/2014 5:46 pm : link
actually that it got batted. Looks to me like that was Eli's one bad pass of the day and it was really bad. He was going for Randle from what I can tell and Randle had 4 Texans around him in close proximity. I think that might have been an INT if it wasn't batted at LOS.
