This Game was Filled with Poor Coaching Decisions

thomasa510 : 9/21/2014 9:24 pm
Just watched the game on DVR. What I saw was a game filled with poor coaching decisions by the Texans. While the Giants, thoroughly dominated the game, the following stood out:

1) Houston continually brought out 5 DBs despite the Giants success in running. At some point you would think they would bring some help up front, but rarely did. 170 yards was earned by Jennings, but made much easier by the defensive coaching decisions.

2) At the end of the half with less than 2:00 minutes left, within your own 20, I don't think it is a wise decision to throw deep on 3rd and 19. Sure the Giants had 3 timeouts, but it seemed to be a poor decision that truly changed the mood of the game going into the locker room.

3) 4th Down Attempts: Sure, the fake punt worked, but the other 4th down attempt seemed poorly timed and planned.

While this game gives the Giants something to work on, I don't think every team will make as poor decisions as the Houston coaching staff did.
Good Lawd!!!

Oh come on man.

Eli played great, the Giants ran the ball, the defense got turn overs, and every week this team has gotten better. Smoke a joint, drink a beer, jerk off and enjoy the victory.

So I guess the Texans coaching staff gave away the game to the Giants.
definitely agree

With number two. That didn't seem "aggressive" to me. It just seemed desperate.and foolhardy.
Actually, I agree with the OP, here
Wuphat : 9/21/2014 9:29 pm : link
O'Brien didn't coach a good game.

That doesn't mean the Giants shouldn't be given credit for recognizing the openings and taking advantage.

It's not mutually exclusive that the Giants play well and the Texans coaching being poor on the day.
O'brien

this ain't meaningless Big 10 games anymore, billy boy.
Oh FFS! What's wrong with this post?

I agree with all of it.

Don't worry guys, he's not slighting our beloved Giants!

As I said the giants dominated but it was a poorly coached game by texans. The texans didn't give this one away and giants earned it but I wouldn't be happy with the coaching staff if I was a fan of them (and I'm not).
The 4th and 1 call was not a bad call
Gman11 : 9/21/2014 9:42 pm : link
The Giants just stopped it. Just because it didn't work doesn't mean that it was a bad call.
Speaking of coaching decisions
BlackLight : 9/21/2014 9:45 pm : link
Coughlin's decision to challenge the spot on that would-be conversion was excellent. He got an assist from Kiwi, going down with an injury and giving the video people more time to review the play.
Is a good OP, was poor coaching by O'brien
Great White Ghost : 9/21/2014 9:50 pm : link
It was mainly to stem the bleeding, I think.he was getting dominated and took some chances that didn't work out.I don't think he wins even if he doesn't make those decisions.I agree he called a shit game, but I think it was more a reaction than a cause.

This. Some people really are unbelievable. Everything the man said was accurate. It's not a knock on the Giants to say they took advantage of opportunities brought about by poor coaching from the opposition.
I agree

I was playing madden the other night and called
A play that i shouldn't have. I know where your coming from.. Great post Einstein
I figured it out.

He joined in October of 2011.

The first game of the 2011 season was the Redskins.

At least unconsciously, he's a Redskins fan.

Yeah, I thought O'Brien coached a terrible game as well. Funny what pisses some people off.
It's getting to the point that you can't post anything
Mike from Ohio : 9/22/2014 9:09 am : link
on here except "Great Game Giants!" without someone crying about it. There is nothing in the OP that detracts from the Giants winning yesterday. It clearly does not say the poor coaching decisions give the Giants the win.

It is the Monday after a great win. Not sure why every Giants fan can't be feeling good today.
I kind of agree with the OP...
arcarsenal : 9/22/2014 9:21 am : link
But it's surprising because O'Brien isn't the kind of dude you'd expect a poorly coached game from
oh you people need to stop...there WAS plenty of bad
I Love Clams Casino : 9/22/2014 9:25 am : link
yes, the Giants won, but there was plenty that stuck out in my mind that good teams just don't do.

1st quarter was horrible...Giants on their own 30 something on 3rd and very long. Delayed handoff to Jennings. Seriously? I would have preferred a pass completion short of the marker to see if somebody could juke and pick up some YAC....what's the percentage success on that play?

Later in the game... it was a 3rd and perhaps 6 yards....they throw a fade to Cruz on the sideline....A FADE? On 3rd down? What the hell was THAT?

Those 2 plays still have me scratching my head, and they were both drive enders.
good post
dorgan : 9/22/2014 9:26 am : link
The time management at the end of the half could have really bitten them in the ass.

The 4th down attempt smacked of desperation, but if they'd made it, it would have given them a real jump start.
Guys, no team plays a perfect game, The D is trying too
PatersonPlank : 9/22/2014 9:29 am : link
However I think the reaction here is because after a loss there is such a knee-jerk, over the top, condemnation of the team and coaches that people look for the "positive opposite" after an impressive win. So when people see threads like "we won but" it just sets them off.

also late in thre game
I Love Clams Casino : 9/22/2014 9:29 am : link
threw a sideline pass to Randle, he had blocking, and he just stands there for bit, until the blocking breaks down, and gets tackled for no yards....he needs to immediately lean into that behind his blockers and go....that play was set up very nicely for him, and he blew it
the worst thread I have seen on here
NYG007 : 9/22/2014 9:39 am : link
Houston gave us the game? LMAO we dominated them in every phacet, and they came in 2-0, with pretty good Def performances, and back to back 100+ ratings for Fitzy.

Worst post I've seen, and I dont typically bast a post. But come on, we are all frustrated with our teams performance the last 2 years, but give them credit when they play well. This post is absurd

I think you actually have the worst post I've seen. I find it strange that you're "laughing your ass off" based on a line from the OP you made up in your crazy head. Show me where he said Houston "gave us the game."

Oh, and here is the OP's only other post on this thread where he said, and I quote "The texans didn't give this one away":

Try reading and understanding before you start yammering. It's perfectly clear that the OP was NOT bashing or belittling the Giants in any way. It lays out some good, factual observations; that's all.
