3 days rest in their house? Adrenalin playing at home will overcome the Skins' injuries imo. And Jennings being physically ready after his workload?
Sorry, just don't see it..
I remember the Redskins under George Allen scoring 69 points against the Giants and then kicking a FG. I have never forgiven those assholes and it's been a very long time. I don't hate the Redskins like the Cowboys but some feelings never go away.
most. I know it's different for you DC area guys, because that area is wall to wall Redskins and they can be obnoxious to say the least. Believe me I now I spent 4 years at the Univ. of MD 87-90 when the rivalry was at it's peak. I guess my respect comes from the class Joe Gibbs always showed. You look at Dallas and Philly and it's so easy to despise them. Philly has always been garbage and lacked class, plus they have always seemed to have our number. Dallas of course with all that America's team garbage growing up and Jones and that despicable bunch in the 90's. Don't get me wrong I've always wanted to beat the Skins with every bone in my body, but I definitely have more respect for what they accomplished in the 80's and 90's and how they went about doing it. Yes Snyder is a punk, but he's run them into the ground so bad it's hard to gather up hatred for him as a rival.
fluctuates between the Eagles and the Cowboys, but I agree that the 'Skins are the least hated by myself, but I think it is because they have been a relative no factor for 20+ years....
more than any team. Spending a couple of years in Northern Virginia as a kid during the 1970s will do that to you. We had some sweet upsets in there though (e.g., 12-9, 17-6).
Around Redskins Park, the team’s headquarters in Ashburn, turnover is not limited to the team’s coaching staff, particularly in recent years. The team’s media guide in 2008 listed 143 team employees not related to football operations. Five years later, fewer than 20 remain.
There are myriad reasons. While the Redskins have never been shy to pay millions to football players, former employees who’ve also worked elsewhere in the NFL say salaries for the rest of the operation lag behind many teams. Ex-staffers reported cutbacks during the recent recession — multiple employees reported receiving bags of apples one year in lieu of holiday bonuses — but Tony Wyllie, the Redskins’ senior vice president of communications, noted that a lot of companies tightened their belts during the recession.
Some suggest he lacks the interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with those below him. One oft-told story around Redskins Park dates from Snyder’s early days as an owner.
Snyder had tired of defensive coordinator Mike Nolan’s bland play-calling. “Too vanilla,” he called it, and to illustrate the point, he left a gallon of ice cream on Nolan’s desk. Nolan chuckled, but later that season, the owner still wasn’t pleased and sent more ice cream, three five-gallon drums this time, with the note: “I wasn’t joking. I do not like vanilla.”
And in my era, was the giants going into RFK late in the 86'season and beating them to essentially, IMHO, to catapult them to their SB Championship that year. That game gave me confidence that they were on their way, especially going in that hostile environment with division on the line and all.
The Redskins had to tighten their belts during the recession so they couldn't give real bonuses? What a bunch of clowns? They are, and have been for a very long time, made a boatload of money. The NFL is a cash cow. Using the recession as an excuse to give apples as a bonus instead of money is pure Snyder the asshole.
that Washington, as a team, will be far more emotionally spent come Thursday night than we will be. Coming off a tough, divisional game that went back and forth, then down to the wire.
I'm worried about Jennings not being fully recovered, but I think if we can keep it competitive for most of the game, Washington will be worn out down the stretch and give us a chance to win.
Lots of talent but in the wrong scheme with the wrong team. Danny boy has canned many coaches, the "Old Ball Coach" comes to mind although he did take Danny for a BIG financial ride, but many careers have also gone to Washington to die. The latest being RGII. As long as they have the Clown Prince for an owner, they are doomed
I lived in DC area 1968-1971. That was when Vince Lombardi passed away and I think Bill Austin was his replacement before George Allen. Kilmer and Jurgensen were alternating at QB.
Sam Huff of course became a Redskin in one of our worst trades ever.
There was one benefit living in DC we got Giant games when Redskins were playing home games due to the blackout rules. So went home to Connecticut when Giants played away games.
At least before George Allen we had the Fran Tarkenton - Ron Johnson - and Bob Tucker era but nobody for defense. And the baby bulls Tucker Frederickson and Bobby Duhon.
Trying to remember the Redskin running backs and wide receivers.

The 72-41 loss when the Redskins kicked a late FG Â
Was coached by Otto Graham according to profootballhof.com. 1966 was the year and it's one of the first games I remember watching ever at 10 or 11.
But like others here I hate the Cowboys far more, and the Eagles too. I have respect for the Skins and their fans that I've met personally. Way more football knowledgeable than Cowboys fans.
Redskins fans are hands down the most delusional bunch of suckers to ever walk the earth. Where do you think the "Offseason Champs" meme sprang from? Every year these jackasses think their team is a serious title contender despite the fact that they've sucked ass for two decades.
Living many years - most of my life actually the vast majority of my adult life - out of the NY metro area has given me the opportunity to meet lots of fans of other teams. Among those, Skins fans have been among the best and most football knowledgeable. Steelers and Packers fans too. Dallas among the worst, along with 9ers and Broncos. Bears fans are the most rabid... But knowledgeable too.
me how many people over the years on BBI blame it on George Allen. He was the DC for the Rams at that time, if my memory serves me. But the coach was Otto Graham.
against the very good (great) Parcells teams, skins were the team I feared the most, along with 9ers. They dominated the SB bears with the hogs in 86 game. Great O line and one play (counter tray) nobody could stop. Larry brown, a tough sob. Bobby Mitchell, great player. Joe Jacoby, a $25 cab ride to get around him at tackle. As for their fans? they are fiercely loyal, if nothing else. :)
... what I would have given to be sitting in the Polo Grounds watching one if those December games against Baugh and theSkins.
Not to put any pressure on you, but I can't wait to read the story about the great Giants-Eagles rivalry in anticipation of that matchup in a couple of weeks.
Hey, at least I can hope for a story (no pressure though -Ha).

Thanks Kinard.
I'll file the Eagles idea for the future - maybe 2015.
I have another in works but it will be a while before it comes out. I've recruited some assistance as it requires deep research. It's going to be completely different than any of the others I've done, I hope it will be a fun read.
the record seven TD passes that YA Tittle threw against the Redskins in 1963. The won only 49-34 (I had to look that up). Home games blacked out of course but I remember listening to it on the radio. After that came the descent into hell.
Trivia: Who was the first NFL player to make the cover of SI?
... I really like the old pictures and the diagrams of all the offense and defensive formations.
I always wondered about those different variations of the T and Wing formations...
Imagine the classic 60-minute battles that Mel Hein and Sammy Baugh must have had?
Thanks again. for me, researching old photos is probably my favorite part of the process. The other half of my work is helping out the Gridiron Uniform Database. A lot of the old Giants photos I find for the articles end up in corrections, revisions and updates there.
I've been doing those formations myself. I tried it out for the first time when I wrote the Browns-Giants article last December. This time around I used Steve Owen's drawing's from his book "My Kind of Football" as a reference. it was especially helpful with the line splits in the a-formation and the secondary alignments in the 5-3 defense variations.
George Allen's 3 points at the end of the blowout Â
Sorry, just don't see it..
Thanks again Larry for your amazing efforts
Eric is always deserving of your gratitude as well. He puts a lot of editing work into these to ensure they are presentable.
I'll share them here.

It's hard to overstate what a total and complete douche Snyder is.

72 fucking points is like a fookin college hoops score, or the Bill Lambeer Pistons....
