(Reuters) - The 2022 World Cup will not be held in Qatar because of the scorching temperatures in the Middle East country, FIFA Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger said on Monday.
"I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar," the German told Sport Bild on Monday.
"Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions," the former German football (DFB) chief, who is now a member of the world soccer's governing body FIFA that awarded the tournament to Qatar in 2010.

Unless they're going to play the games at midnight in December. And even then, it's still pretty warm, but at least bearable.
This is FIFA, more likely this leak is just to get a few more million in bribes before "confirming" that the games will still be held there.
The US seriously pushed for 2022 but missed out
Watch, between now and the games you will see huge amounts of money spent to create a cooler playing surface or some innovation that supposedly will make the game safer and stuff. Plus they'll probably relax the substitution rules for the games as well
Wouldn't moving it to the winter wreck havoc with the European league schedules?
Don't forget about the NCAA
Corrupt? Can't be:

Everyone in the global football community has a responsibility to act ethically. Football fans rightly demand this. FIFA has taken the lead.

Wouldn't be surprised. I wonder if the U.S. will get it if Qatar is out. I thought Australia was in the running as well. Coming here would be easy for FIFA. The infrastructure (NFL and big time college stadiums) is already built. Nobody is going to die.

but I'll believe it when I see it. I'd expect them to play it in the winter before moving it out of Qatar.

It would. The possibility of a winter World Cup has been mentioned publicly before, and it would involve an extended winter break for the leagues. Most people understandibly view that as a disaster.
Hopefully FIFA comes to its senses and just moves it to a country with the infrastructure already in place. We've had two World Cups in a row now in countries that basically screwed over many poor people to host the tournament. How about we put one in a country that won't do that?
Real Madrid vs Basel 5-1 - ( New Window )
Yeah Real is something else. They obliterated the team I support this weekend 8-2. 8-2!

FFP is a joke.
Oh I agree with that, I do not support a cap and don't want to see clubs chopped down. In my opinion, it hurts small clubs more than larger clubs and reduces a lot of competitiveness throughout the leagues. It prevents a lot of owners of small clubs who have much larger ambitions. Owners of smaller clubs should be allowed to spend, but the debt does not go to the club. If a owner splits town, the debt is on him, not the club. Kind of sticky situation, what happens if the opposite happens and the club makes massive profits? Maybe the owner can keep profits, but the TV and sponsorship goes to the club.
Stupid-ass organization.
the corruption in the winning bid
or the slave labor being used to build the infrastructure
but suddenly FIFA realized that Qatar is hot in the summer
sounds like FIFA is looking for a way out of Qatar.
I think FIFA will give it to the US for a few reasons.
1. it cost brazil 11 billion dollars this past world cup
i believe the 1994 world cup in US cost 28 million.
and 1994 world cup still has record for largest attendance.
2.FIFA was surprised by the US fans this time around and want to capitalize on soccers momentum in US
3. if US gets 2022 bid it is less likely US and Europe would sit out Russia world cup in 2018
FIFA is looking at taking in a hell of a lot more money in the US based solely on attendance.
Who the fuck wants to go to Qatar and sit in a stadium while it's 120 degrees outside?
And who the fuck wants to go to Qatar period?
Real Madrid probably raises hundreds of millions by selling merchandise around the world...I don't feel like Depor is entitled to any of that money. I would agree that the TV money should be split evenly, which it currently isn't. Other than that though...every club for itself. Sink or swim, IMO.

but what about revenue sharing? Or having the national government NOT backstop Real Madrid at the expense of the rest of the league? La Liga truly is a joke from a structural standpoint. "Climbing the mountain" the old fashioned way like NFL teams can is unrealistic.

Real benefited from government largess like few other sports organizations ever have. And that's without their affiliation with Franco. The system is a joke.
They should drop the pretense and stop calling it La Liga and give it a more accurate name. Perhaps La "loose association of independent football fiefdoms with no common purpose".
La Liga has some flaws, but it's still the best league in the world; something that's been borne out pretty clearly the last ten years or so.
