Stephen Tulloch tears ACL celebrating stop on a 2 yard run

YAJ2112 : 9/22/2014 12:56 pm
Way dumber than either Gramatica or Frerotte.

I saw it live and couldn't figure out WTF he was so excited about.

nothing beats

Ferotte, nothing.

I just saw the video, cringe. unbelievable you play football and then do a jump hip move and there goes the ACL, crazy.
It's more likely that he already partially tore it
Doom5 : 9/22/2014 12:59 pm : link
and the dance was the straw the broke the camel's back.
wow how dumb must you feel
BillyBoy8384 : 9/22/2014 12:59 pm : link
Some guys get too amped! damn tearing an acl celebrating what was he doing backflips?
Here's an article

"Celebrate good times!

COME ON!"
that's awful
UConn4523 : 9/22/2014 1:03 pm : link
goes to show you that your career can be over in a flash, for something so stupid no less.
weird
YAJ2112 : 9/22/2014 1:03 pm : link
that one and a few other articles are saying it was after a sack. I swear I saw 2nd and 8 after the play, but maybe I was watching a replay.
Kinda weird
Andy in Halifax : 9/22/2014 1:05 pm : link
He didn't really do anything strenuous or unusual. My guess is that it was ready to snap and just happened to be right then when it finally did.

That is what I thought too... it probably would have went soon after anyway.. I was expecting to see this outrageous celebration.
didn't someone blow out his ACL jumping around in the tunnel
SB : 9/22/2014 2:02 pm : link
before a Super Bowl or a conference championship? Can't recall who.
It still amazes me how easily some of the ligaments pop on these guys.

Mine just popped reading this thread!
kmed : 9/22/2014 2:41 pm : link
Some of us are just built differently where there is more strain on our ligaments. Others can never tear their ACL's. Lucky SOB's.
One thing I wish the networks would do...
Go Terps : 9/22/2014 2:43 pm : link
stop showing slow motion replays of celebrations after plays...it only encourages acts of jackassery. This isn't just in the NFL...it's everywhere. I saw a guy score a goal in Spain yesterday shrug off his celebrating teammates so he could hold a stupid pose...he looked like a moron.
My assumption..
arcarsenal : 9/22/2014 2:44 pm : link
Has always been that it happens to a lot of these guys easier because they've got so much muscle packed onto their frames and a lot of them are like walking science experiments. Probably puts a ton of strain on the ligaments and makes it easier for them to snap.

I don't know if that's completely accurate but it's the only thing that really ever made sense to me considering how well conditioned these guys usually are.
I don't laugh at injuries,
Dave in Hoboken : 9/22/2014 2:46 pm : link
but this one is funny and sad at the same time. Tearing your ACL in Week 3 after sacking a QB and mimicking a silly dance he does, or used to do. Good grief. Talk about karma.

The elderly and athletes may also be at higher risk for copper deficiency due to special needs that increase the daily requirements.

Other conditions previously linked to copper deficiency include chronic conditions involving bone, connective tissue

My theory ...
My favorite is the punter who was chopping wood in the locker room

And missed and seriously hurt himself

The worst thing was his response - We always celebrate after a good play ... no regrets ....
That is..

hilarious!
Fuckin idiot
Rocky Thompson : 9/22/2014 3:39 pm : link

131 games played without an injury. NFL throws a flag at ball spinners but allows this crap. Should be at least 5 yards for delay of the game, 15 yards if your team is getting blown out and you still do it...
I agree that . . .
Ralph.C : 9/22/2014 3:48 pm : link
. . . it was probably ready to go any play and it just happened to be the celebration jump that completed the tear.
I feel for the guy but that was just plain dumb.
PeterS : 9/22/2014 4:00 pm : link
If I were a coach I would ban any celebratory head butts, head slaps, etc. Be smart!

The celebrations by a player on a team losing by a significant margin will always be the worst. The Panthers can be losing 35-6, and that dope Cam Newton will still do his Superman nonsense after a 1-yard TD dive.

There was a recent game (can't remember exactly) where a cornerback broke up a short end zone pass from inside the 10 yard line, and he folded his arms and posed for the crowd. His team was losing by double digits.

Giants players don't do it often, but when they do, I cringe.
You never live down that kind of stupid
j_rud : 9/22/2014 4:38 pm : link
No matter what he's done or what he will do, this is what he'll be remembered for. Welcome to the Sports Pantheon of dumb Mr. Tulloch
However, you better believe every team in the league
j_rud : 9/22/2014 4:41 pm : link
is showing this clip in meetings this week and telling guys to knock off the nonsense celebrations. Hopefully we don't see TD celebrations after every average play now.
I recall Strahan's rookie season ending
fkap : 9/22/2014 5:15 pm : link
because of a celebration injury. I don't think it defined his career, though.
Didn't get to see enough of the play...
Dan in the Springs : 9/22/2014 7:02 pm : link
but was it really a 2 yard run? The linked articles both claimed it was a sack celebration.

Not that it matters regarding the injury, but I kind of hate when players celebrate regular plays, and I understand why they celebrate TD's, turnovers, and sacks.
The worst thing like this that I remember
G Fan : 9/22/2014 7:26 pm : link
is maybe 2 seasons ago, USC was playing possibly Stanford or ASU and the other team w had driven to where they were in "extra point" FG range with well under a minute to go. They were basically just killing the clock for the game winning FG. That's when this jagoff on USC breaks through and tackles the RB for a 1-2 yard loss......still WELL within FG range, but you would not have believed the celebration this moron performed. He seemed COMPLETELY clueless that his team was about 5 seconds away from a chip shot game winning FG (which was made).
I remember watching
natefit : 9/22/2014 7:28 pm : link
Grammatica as it happened. Dumb, pathetic even but really just bad luck. Not funny for me.
