The beauty of reports (last wk, this wk) that Odell Beckham is ready to play: Someone, someday will be right. But he won't play Thursday.
it was reported that he would play. I'm actually happy with this news, I didn't want to see him get rushed back and thrown into the fire for a TNF game. Hopefully he'll be available in 2 weeks.
Yup, even if he's fully cleared, Atlanta makes more sense. Â
He probably wouldn't be much help given how much he's practiced. Best case scenario may be 2007 Steve Smith and we see an impact in the second half of the season.
Guy has even played a single snap yet. Not even in the pre-season. Keep chugging along. If he's ever ready, great. If not, that's fine, too. No biggie.
even after the report over the weekend. Not sure why LaCanfora made such a big deal out of it. Most NFL fans probably don't even know who Odell Beckham is. I guess they talked him up because Thursday's game is on CBS?
He's a huge investment and he's very good. Even the best-trained speed & power athletes in the world -- Olympic-class sprinters -- don't take chances coming back from hamstring injuries.
until he is 100% healthy. And even then, give it another week to be safe. BUT is there any reason we are giving this report any more credence than the one last week saying he would play? It is one report, and is barely coherent....

I agree - beneficial to sit, watch and learn. It's a longgggg season so he might as well get healthy for it.
Talented as he may be, he just strikes me as a "me" guy and a workout warrior who will spend more time on the stationary bike than on the field. I hope I'm wrong but I really just haven't felt good about OBJ at all.

really? You are entitled to your feelings, but this conjecture is just silly to express at this point. Yes, the lingering injury is disappointing, but Beckham has done nothing to imply he might be a "me" player or constantly injured.
Had the Giants lost this weekend, oh hell no!! Wtf is wrong with this guy?! This team needs this guy bad!! IMO I'm not happy with the news, and I am wondering when this guy will ever suit up?? The giants right everybody they can get to help this offense continue to improve.
practices with the team, runs routes etc. on a limited basis , a little more each day. We have two weeks to get him ready to go against Atlanta. He needs some contact before then with pads etc.
has he actually run with Eli as his QB? If my math is correct he has missed 8 weeks of practice. His only value this year may be as a punt returner. Anything more is gravy.

He caught a bunch of passes from Eli before he was even drafted. That said, he hasn't run the routes of this offense yet

What would give you such an impression?! He never missed a game in college to injury and is a good guy. You also want a receiver with some swagger. Nothing wrong with that at all. Would be nice to bring some speed and ability to make plays to this offense. Cruz needs the help and Beckham just needs time to get conditioned and acclimated. I think we'll see him in a few weeks. Hopefully against Atlanta.
This is the longest hamstring injury in history... Â
his body could have grown a new hamstring by now. I think he locked himself in the bathroom and the team still cannot figure out how to unlock the door.
injuries come in a variety of flavors and degrees of damage. We're talking about a muscle group that extends from the pelvis/hip to the knee (where the hammy is more tendon than muscle). Most of us have pulled up lame from a garden-variety pulled hamstring. A few days later and we're ok. Safe to assume his injury is more severe...perhaps a tear at the distal area (knee) or perhaps an avulsion injury, where the tear is at the hip and tears a small part of the bone away.
Takes time to heal. Sux.

So the concept of re-aggravating a hamstring must be completely foreign to you.
Ricoh_GR: Your assumption is only supported by his long recovery. Â

Well, maybe. As far as I can recall, none of the beat reporters ever mentioned surgical options, or even x-rays. Beckham had an MRI in late July, which was widely reported to have shown no tear. I have no idea whether those reports were accurate, or how reliable an MRI is in detecting muscle damage. We do know that he tried to join practice three weeks later, and wound up sidelined again with "soreness".
It's possible that his brief foray onto the practice field on August 19th caused serious damage, or that the previous injury was misdiagnosed. That's pure speculation. If we're going to make assumptions, the most reasonable one is that Beckham suffered something less severe than what you're describing, and that the Giants have proceeded with extreme caution after Beckham's first, unsuccessful attempt to join practice.
they always devolve into one side saying "how the heck can a guy be out this long for a hamstring" and the other side saying "you don't know what you are talking about, it takes this long to fully heal and that hamstrings are complicated that often get reinjured"
the irony is that both sides are right. hamstrings often do get reinjured and they take some time to heal, but it should not take two months. if you tear your hamstring, you should be back in a month.
play last Sunday, there's no point in rushing him to play a few days later on Thursday night. Let him have the long week to start practicing and let the coaching staff have some time to get him into the gameplan.
I was busy out of town all last week...what happened to Jernigan? Â
get on the field. Had a chance this season to show he could produce and was worth keeping, and now is done. Doesn't return punts. Doesn't return KOs much better either.
He makes guys like Preston Parker stick on the roster.
RE: I love everyone's attitude towards this news.. Â

I kind of agree - while rushing him into a game is never the best idea, I don't think we would really be rushing him when we have let him rest and heal up all pre-season and through week 3. If we lose this game, and drop to 1-3 and 0-1 in the division that's a huge blow, and large drop from 2-2 (1-0). If we were sitting at 2-1 right now I think it could be different and, and if we could have got out of our own way Vs. AZ than we just might have the luxury of sitting a healthy ODBeck to give him more practice/learning time, but we need to win this game and if he's healthy enough to play, and wants to play - let's get him going at least on a limited snap count basis to at least make the defense have to plan for a guy that they have no real tape footage to study on him other than his college days. And don't really have a great way to work on preparing for him.
Of course he needs to be healthy before he plays, but he "tweaked" his hamstring 8 weeks ago today.
I guess there was a setback, but that sounds like more than enough time to not consider him being rushed back from his tweaked hamstring.
get healthy and get on the field. I bet TC is frustrated too and isn't saying take your sweet time healing.
LaConfora had a "setback" with his player reporting...
Very well possible Coughlin noticed that.
Lets get to 2-2 versus Washington this Thursday, get out of the game healthy.

I was excited, but this doesn't surprise. I don't see it as a setback.

Someday, Someway
not Someday, Someone--we already know it is OB not some anonymous "someone."

Makes me wonder if this is really a hamstring ? Seems long time no ?

Defenses will be fvcked.

You think maybe he got knocked up and just isn't showing yet?
Lis Franc injury. Season-ending IR.
Should be plenty of roster turnover again, even if the season ends well.
