NFT: Yanks talk 9/22

Dunedin81 : 9/22/2014 4:10 pm
Jose Pirela will start at DH tonight, so that is positive.

The Yankees claimed OF Eury Perez off waivers from the Nats. He hit .310 in the minors this year, mostly AAA, going 26/30 on the basepaths.

Very encouraging start for Tanaka, though I think the next couple days seeing whether he has any discomfort will be even more telling than was his performance.
Perez is interesting

He was a pretty well regarded prospect.
Yeah he's 24 so not ancient...

Josh Outman was the corresponding roster move.
I guess the Yankees like

other teams' minor leaguers..just not their own.
A couple off the wall questions for next year
jgambrosio : 9/22/2014 4:34 pm : link
If A-Rod even sniffs the field, would the Yankees ever consider him at SS? They clearly don't have anyone close to filling Jeter's spot (I don't see Tulo being the guy) and 3B is generally an easier spot to fill, and could potentially be filled by Headley if he doesn't spend too much time at 1B next year given Tex's constant health issues.

An even more off the wall question, would any team in the majors consider a 6 man rotation? I think Tanaka would be the biggest beneficiary, and given Pineda's past health issues, I think he would as well. Obviously no one knows if CC can come back and be effective or if Kuroda will be back, but with Greene playing the way he has been, they could definitely pull it off, not to mention it would take some pressure off of the pen.
It wouldn't take pressure off the pen...
Dunedin81 : 9/22/2014 4:38 pm : link
it'd leave the pen one man short. And the bench is short enough as it is.

And A-Rod is not mobile enough for short at this point. Jeter wasn't really either, but A-Rod will be 39 next year, with hip problems, and hasn't played the position in 9 years.
Is Elvis Andrus a possibilty??

Rangers front office down on Andrus this year....came to spring training out of shape...has a big contract... would the Yanks trade for him????
We can't ever seem to stock an effective bench as it
jgambrosio : 9/22/2014 4:41 pm : link
is, what's the harm lol... you could make the arugment though that the starters could last another inning, more than making up for 6 innings in a shorter timeframe.

And that's true about A-Rod, didn't think about his hip. Then again, god knows what he's been doing this season to try and recover...

I think you'll see something outside the box, I hope their answer isn't Stephen f-cking Drew.

After 9/1 callups a six-man rotation isn't a bad idea, but as old as our lineup is going with a short bench is a bad idea as it is. This is why the Yankees like having fringey guys as long men. Have an extra inning game or a double-header and you just DFA one of them. You can't do that with the Lindgrens and Tyler Webbs though.
God help us if it's Drew, he sucks.

I'd rather have Ryan out there. At least he can field the position.
Elvis Andrus is awful and makes a shitload of money

would have to give that guy away. 120 million for a guy who hasn't had a 100 OPS+ season yet at 25?
