Just completed my review of the defense. Fewell with a very basic gameplan.
It really was a tale of 2 halves as the Giants played much more conservatively after going up 17-0. Overall if there's a Defensive Coordinator that blitzes less than Fewell I haven't seen it.
1st Half
Snaps - 27
Blitzes - 4
(blitzed on 15% of snaps)
What stood out was the Giants going 3 for 3 on sudden change situations. The Texans came away with 0 points after the fake punt, the Donnell fumble and the bad snap.
You emphasize Sudden Change every week and they got it done.
Notable Stats: I scored Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie with 2 dropped INTs although both would have been tough plays.
Patterson drew a hands to the face penalty on HOU and blew up the 4th and 1 later.
Notable Personnel: McClain started at MLB with Herzlich at the traditional SLB spot and J-Will WLB.
Notable Formations: On the Prince INT, we showed a 3-4 look with DaMonster in a 2 pt. stance over the TE. The DL was Kiwi-Ayers-JPP. Moore and JPP both got pressure with JPP's QB hit causing the INT.
2nd Half
Snaps - 45
Blitzes - 4
(blitzed on 9% of snaps)
What stood out was going conservative after we went up 17-0 - taking JPP out and putting Kuhn at DT. This is when Fewell started going Cover 2, allowing underneath completions to keep the clock moving. O'Brien's adjustment was going spread and exploiting the middle when he saw what we were doing.
Notable Stats: Of the 8 total blitzes in the game, 7 were 5-man pressures. The other was a 6-man pressure. We never dropped a DL into coverage. I scored Prince Amukamara with a dropped INT. Despite the dropped INTs it was a strong game for both Prince and DRC. Both had 1 penalty each.
Notable Personnel: S Stevie Brown was benched at the 12:00 mark of the 4th Qtr after allowing the deep TD. Berhe came in and I never got beat as far as I could tell.
Kiwanuka with a heady veteran move: with Giants leading 20-10 early in 4th Qtr, "staying down", allowing Coughlin a look before challenging the Fitzpatrick ball spot, which forced a punt.
Notable Formations: Ran the 3-4 one other time, again in a pass rushing situation, with JPP the stand-up DE.
Star of Game:
DL Robert Ayers (despite only having a limited role)
Ayers lined up primarily at RDT in subpackages and was very disruptive. He didn't really play DE until the 4th Qtr. I scored him with 1 QB hit and 5 QB pressures. He was also clearly held on the play McBride got a sack on. The co-star of the game was DE Mathias Kiwanuka with 1 QB hit and 4 QB pressures, as well as the heady fake injury.
JPP and Moore also had solid games as did Hankins. Rolle was Rolle.

He's a VERY INTELLIGENT person - IMHO. Thus ... he is an asset for Fewell/Coughlin !!!
Some ways, I do agree. I think they should stay agressive. When you let up, teams tend to, find a rhythm. Don't give them shit. Make them earn it
it was OK. McClain had a decent game and got everybody lined up although as I noted it was a vanilla gameplan from Fewell. When O'Brien spread it out in the 2nd half he started attacking all 3 linebackers and it was too easy. They also got sucked inside and failed to contain Blue on the 46-yard run before the long TD pass. all in all, about as good as could be expected and i found it interesting McClain started over Herz at MIKE. That is not what we did last week after Beason went down.
Thanks a.j.
I would second this. For a guy with not a lot of career sacks, he's looked good rushing the QB.
He's been the most consistent pass rusher through the first 3 games.
Curious why Kuhn got the nod over Bromley this week. I thought Bromley looked good in week 2.

Awww, Mikey, you're being too harsh. He was a rookie. Heat was coming down on QB hits. He had Vince in the grasp and apparently was waiting for a whistle or something. Anybody else have a better memory of the play?
I heard that Tuck got benched in Oakland. Seems like Reese made the right moves on this one.
I don't think he got benched
